AFKC Round 1 Race Report

Lossie kart club travelled down to Llandow for round 1 of the AFKC. A 10 hour trip either way for us.

We had 3 karts out for Thursday practice with Richy in his rotax and 2 drivers in each of the 2 pro karts.

Jake had never been in a pro kart until Thursday but he done really well and built some good experience up hoping to race in round 2. Brayley also drove well in kart 66 for the day with no issues.

Both Thursday and Friday practice were a success for Brad and Elliot in kart 69, the pace was rapid and the kart was in a good place going into race day.

Richy got some good practice in across the 2 days and got to grips with physical side of premier class.

Race day:
Richy had an incident in one of the heats but managed to get the kart out for the final and came P2 in the 177 class.
We also had the pleasure of helping out Jack Goring from RAF Valley, he managed overall P2 in the premier class.

Brad qualified for Kart 69 in both races, qualifying in P6 overall in the 1st race and P5 overall in the 2nd race.
A good strategy in the 1st race put us in contention for a military podium but we came home P7 overall and P4 military.

We had a transponder issue during the 1st stint of the 2nd race but thankfully this was resolved and after a tough race we came 5th overall and P4 military again.

Overall it was a good haul of points for kart 69 and good results for both Jack and Richy in the Premier class. Hopefully more of the same in round 2!

This weekend we competed in round 2 of the winter series at Crail.

We had 3 karts racing in the senior prokart category competing against 6 other drivers.

The other 6 drivers were running to a higher weight limit and 200cc engines which brought some close racing between us all.

During practice we noticed a bad split in the chassis of kart 69. Alfie decided to drive the 7 hour round trip back to Lossie to pick up the spare chassis ready for race day on Sunday.

Race day brought some slippy conditions and some good racing from all drivers racing across the categories.

Lossie finished P1, P2 and P3 in the final as the wet conditions benefited our softer compound tyres.

We had a great time at crail both on track and off track.

We started our winter testing yesterday with a track day to get some seat time after a successful season overall.

3 karts and 6 drivers made it to Grampian Kart Club for the day. A couple hours of dry running but the rain came and it was slippery conditions for the rest of the day, made harder by all karts being on slicks.

No major dramas with the karts and both experienced drivers, less experienced drivers and a new member of the club got plenty of track time.

Crail winter series is next up for us 🏎️🏁

Lossie Kart Club participated in the AFKC Round 2 at Clay Pigeon at the weekend.

We had 5 drivers competing across the 2 teams with a 6th driver in Thursday practice to build his experience.

Thursday and Friday practice went well for both 66 and 99, the setup was working well for both karts and the pace was looking good for Saturday.

99 had some contact in qualifying causing damage to the rim and leaving us in P15 starting the semifinal.
66 put in a great lap to start the semifinal in P6.

66 started well in the semi final with Max putting a good stint in even with changing conditions. Ryan continued the pace but a chain guard ripping off during the race resulted in a mechanical flag and ending chances of making the A final. Richy went out for the final stint and a rear tyre went flat so we retired the kart and hoped for a good result in the B final.
99 got caught in a first lap collision which dropped us down to P27, with the fresh rubber the pace was really good and both Brad and Elliot put in a great recovery drive to get the kart back up to P7 by the end of the Semi and made the A final.

66 started the B final near the back but with the strong pace we were hoping for a good result.
Unfortunately, Max was caught up in a lap 1 collision resulting in the Kart ending up in the barriers and needing around 10 minutes in the pits before the kart was back on track. The lads done what they could but the damage was done early and 66 finished P26.

99 started P14 for the A final, Brad was going well and put in a good hour stint. The strategy worked perfect and Elliot jumped in with an hour to go being in P15 having done all of our stops. Karts in front still had to stop and by the end 99 finished P8 overall and P2 military in the final.

It was a great weekend for 99 but unfortunate for 66 who deserved a better result after the pace they shown all weekend.

RHPK Round 3

Last weekend 2 drivers from RAF Lossiemouth represented RAF Karting at the Rye House Prokart Championship Round 3.

Brad and Elliot partnered with Will from Marham in Kart 121.
The Lossie pair got up to pace during Friday practice and got the setup working well.
Will done well to miss Friday practice and still be on the pace during the race on Saturday.

It was a long 5 hour race with an early mechanical issue but the lads all drove really well to bring it back and ended up coming P3 in the Clubman class as well as picking up the team of the day award.

Round 1 AFKC Report

RAF Lossiemouth Kart Club attended Round 1 of the AFKC at Llandow.

We had six drivers competing across the two teams, with a seventh participating in Thursday’s practice day to build some experience.

Setup changes were made frequently across the weekend to account for the new tyres and to improve pace.

The semi-finals went well, especially for Kart 66, which came 19th in a strong field of over 30 karts. This result put the kart P5 for the B Final, even with a 10-second penalty for a yellow flag infringement.

Kart 99 was running in P11 during the semi-final until Elliot had an issue that dropped the kart down to P17 by the end of the race. This result placed 99 on pole for the B Final.

Brad was leading the race in Kart 99 until about halfway through the first stint, and came into the pits in P2.
A slow pit stop meant we lost over a minute on the leaders. Joe took over to try and claw some time back.
Elliot jumped in the kart after Joe, and 99 finished P4 in the B Final after a strong stint, putting the kart at the back of the A Final.

Kart 66 had a strong semi-final, finishing in P5 with a full team of novice drivers. Max, Richy, and Ryan all did exceptionally well for their first-ever race, surrounded by lots of talent.
The kart was quick and could have potentially taken P4 from 99 if we had timed the Battenberg pit stop better.

99 climbed up to P23 in the A Final from P36, but we decided to retire the kart to avoid putting extra strain on the engines and tyres, as there was already significant wear from the semi and B Final.

Overall, it was a great weekend, with 66 doing especially well, and the hard work over the winter has paid off. No major issues with the two karts mechanically either!

As a club, we now turn our attention to Round 2 of the AFKC at Clay Pigeon at the end of May, while Elliot and Brad will be heading to Rye House in a few weeks’ time to represent RAF Karting in the Rye House Prokart Championship.

Last weekend we headed to the North of Scotland Kart Club for our final weekend of testing before Round 1 of the AFKC.

The weather couldn’t have been much better for the weekend, Saturday started off slightly damp but after less than an hour of running, it was dry.

Times started falling and we spent most of Saturday trying to improve our pace as the setup for both karts was working well.

Our final winter testing was a fairly faultless weekend and a productive one as we now turn our attention to Round 1 of the AFKC at Llandow.

Last weekend saw one of Lossie’s drivers Elliot, take on Rye House Prokart round 1 alongside the Wraith racing team in “The Door Fitters” kart.

Having never driven Rye house before and missed Friday practice due to work commitments, he was keen to get running early in the 3 hours practice prior to the race.

A foggy cold start brought slippery conditions which soon lifted and allowed the team to push the kart to the limit.

A broken floor tray took the kart out of action briefly before it was soon replaced and back on track.

An F1 Style qualifying saw Elliot and only 1 other clubman class kart into Q2 and ending Q2 in P2 in class. Elliot’s Teammate Jack drove a beautiful clean first stint of the 4 hour racing leaving us First place in class.

Elliot jumped in after a fuel and weight change for his stint maintaining our place in P1 for his stint.

After an hour and a half in the seat, Jack jumped back in after the final stop to take the flag finishing P11 overall and P1 in class.
