Maiden City were put under pressure early on by a fast, aggressive start from Trojans, who forced the home side to defend deep in the opening exchanges.
City created the first major chance of the game when they were awarded a penalty, but Lennon McWilliams saw his spotโkick brilliantly saved by Charlie Green, who dived low to keep the scores level.
Trojans then struck first. Eoin McNeil pressed high, forced a mistake, and capitalised to put the visitors 1โ0 ahead.
City reacted superbly and equalised just before half time. A rapid counter attack sliced through Trojans, and Oisin OโDonnell applied the finishing touch to make it 1โ1.
The second half was played at a relentless tempo, with both sides pushing forward. City took the lead on the hour mark when McWilliams drove down the line, cut inside, and fired into the near corner to make it 2โ1.
Substitute Jamie McColgan extended the advantage with ten minutes remaining, finishing from inside the penalty area to give City a 3โ1 cushion.
Trojans responded immediately, halving the deficit two minutes later with a powerful header from a long throw, setting up a tense finish.
Both teams continued to create chances in an entertaining endโtoโend finale, but City held firm and edged the game by the odd goal in five.
City now host league leaders Cookstown at home on Saturday, with a 2pm kick off.
