Four oared gig flying down the Thames with the flow in our favour today

Was it really only a month ago we were flying the anima flag past Parliament as part of the greatriverrace with some new rowers and some more experienced ones. We had a respectable fleet of four boats entered. 26 crew in total. 18 intrepid rowers, 4 coxes and 4 passengers as part of the race rules. It meant they were on hand to get footage of us going past all the iconic London buildings from east to west!
Why not come down to Brentford Community Boathouse one Saturday through the winter and see if gig rowing is the sport for you. It’s a good way to meet people, get fit, work off all the winter excesses and be in shape for next summer. Maybe next year you’ll be joining us to row twenty miles up the Thames, for fun…

Another Saturday row for the club this weekend. Now that this summers Learn to Row program has come to fruition, the new rowers are joining in on weekend rows as well as the weekday evening ones too, with an eye to competing in regattas next summer, quite an achievement for people of all ages and genders who had not picked up an oar at the start of the summer!

After the hustle and bustle of the Great River Race at the weekend, we were back out on the water this week on Tuesday and Thursday as normal. Thursday was the first time this year we were rowing in the dark. We’ll be out every week over winter, so why not come and experience the tranquility of having the Thames to yourself for sunset and beyond this winter?

We had such fun on Saturday taking part in the great river race in London, otherwise known as the marathon on the water. 21.6 miles from Millwall in the east to Ham in west.

We have been carrying out a learn to row course over the summer in conjunction with Brentford Community Boathouse and several of our crew were made up of brand new rowers who had never picked up an oar before the start of the summer.

Why not come along and try to learn to row with us. We row every weekend and some weeknights all year round.

Our tour of London tourist attractions from a slightly different angle went well at the weekend. Here we are passing the iconic Tower Bridge as part of Saturday’s Great River Race - 21.6 miles from Millwall to Richmond, taking in all of the sights including rowing past our very own club house in Brentford! We are at Brentford Community Boathouse . Why not come down and see us and try rowing a Cornish Pilot Gig on the Thames. Maybe next year you can be in a boat doing this. We had several people from this summer’s learn to row courses taking part.

Yesterday we competed in the Great River Race again - how could we not - we had to row past our club to get to the finish line! We fielded 4 boats in 2 different categories in total. Fury has recently been restored for the club by Kernow Boats as part of a training program and two boats had crews made up of several from this summer’s Learn to Row course we’ve undertaken. One member was a learn to row member’s teenage son, proving that rowing really is for all ages. Another made a bet in the pub less than three months ago, and now he has completed his first Great River Race!
