Today our U11 Reds hosted Wealdstone U11 Reds, probably one of the strongest teams in our borough, and coach Bacai walked away extremely impressed with how the boys competed. Friendly - Loss
The boys showed fight, hunger, competitiveness and a real desire to win the ball. The scoreline didn’t truly reflect what happened on the pitch, with a few individual mistakes ultimately costing us, but for large periods we held our own against a very strong side.
We created plenty of chances ourselves and definitely deserved at least one goal. Hitting the crossbar was the closest we came, but the important thing was that we continued creating opportunities and never stopped competing.
Considering we haven’t had the pre-season Coach Bacai originally planned, due to his father sadly passing away in August, he is incredibly proud of where the boys are already. The last few weeks have understandably been difficult, but today gave him a really good indication of how far this group has come and, more importantly, exactly what we still need to work on.
We’ve requested Division 2 football this season because we want the boys to be challenged, develop and compete at a higher level. Today showed us that, if we are placed in Division 2, we have the ability to compete comfortably, but there is plenty of work still to be done.
A massive thank you to U11 Reds for making the trip and giving us a brilliant competitive game.
