As a fertility yoga teacher, I often emphasise the importance of listening to our bodies and trusting our unique journeys. In the realm of fertility, there's a lot of information and many tools marketed to us, and it's essential to approach them with informed awareness.
Recently, research has brought to light concerns about widely advertised hormone tests, particularly the Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) test, as a reliable predictor of natural fertility. While the AMH test can be valuable in specific contexts, such as guiding fertility treatments like IVF by indicating the approximate number of eggs for retrieval, studies show it cannot reliably predict your chances of conceiving naturally, the quality of your eggs, or precisely when menopause might occur.
This insight reinforces the message that our fertility is a complex and nuanced process, not solely defined by a single test. Relying too heavily on such tests for general fertility prediction can sometimes lead to unnecessary anxiety or, conversely, a false sense of security that might delay important family planning decisions.
In our practice, we focus on nurturing the body, mind, and spirit to support overall well-being and reproductive health. This includes cultivating a deeper connection with our bodies, managing stress, and fostering a positive mindset—elements that are often overlooked in the quest for quick answers from a blood test.
Experts warn patients are making ‘significant life changes’ based on the anti-Müllerian hormone test, which they say is not reliable for many of its advertised uses
