Sunday qigong workshop!
WOOD & VESSELS 14th June 10-12:30 online via zoom

This will be a workshop of two (closely related) halves. In the first half we will explore a sequence of movements and standing postures known as ‘Refinement Through the Element of Wood’. This is a study of our form in space, that which allows us to exist, move and interact with the world around us. The Daoists see the body as consisting of five different complementary aspects, corresponding to the Five Elements. The Element of Wood relates to our physical and energetic form and structure. The focus will be on the major joints of the body, in Daoist alchemy referred to as ‘external vessels’: areas of the body where energy can collect, gather and transform.

In the second half we will look at a sequence related to the art of Baguazhang (Eight Trigram Palm), in which the focus shifts to organising our movement in relationship with the lower dan tien and the body's axes.

These meditative sequences and poses are excellent for strengthening the joints, improving posture and “harmonising the Three Treasures” (jing, qi and shen). No previous experience of qigong necessary. There will be a break for refreshments.

Dates & Times: Sunday 14 June 2020, 10.00 am-12.30 pm

Venue: Online via Zoom

Cost: £25 (£18 concessions)

This weekend Richard is training with Dan Harden (again). OK, not a household name, even in the small world of internal practices, but if you experience his teaching and get hands on you will probably want more. This is a "non-demoninational" approach, training the principles that underlie the various internal martial arts. No obfuscation, no complicated forms, no uniforms, no nonsense.

A very enjoyable workshop today, exploring the Earth Element. All theories are just... theories, but the Theory of the Five Elements is fascinating and rich, and seems to truly resonate with people in the practice. With no prompting or prior knowledge they so often describe experiences and ideas closely aligned with the classic associations. Thanks to all who came, we had a lovely day!

That was fun. Another fine weekend of qigong with a truly wonderful group. Enthusiasm and humour in abundance. Very lucky with the weather too, which made for delightful walks to take in the sea air and to “tree-bathe” in the forest.

Spring approaches, and with it our next qigong retreat, "Wood & The Dragon". The Early Bird rate expires in just three weeks time (on 26th February), so act soon if you want to take advantage of a considerable saving over the full cost.

Please see the website for details, and please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions (E: [email protected] / W: www.zhunarts.co.uk).

The cost is £340 if fully paid before 26 February (£385 if paid after), which includes all practice, meals and shared accommodation. The programme will be designed to run over three days (it is a Bank Holiday weekend) to give the fullest opportunity for deepening and relaxing into the practice, but for those with time constraints there will be the option to leave on the Sunday, in which case the cost will be £285 if fully paid before 26 February (£325 if paid after). All you need is an £85 deposit to book your place. Payment of the balance is due by 8 April. Payments are non-refundable after 11 March (except in the unlikely event that the weekend has to be cancelled for any reason).

Well, that was fun. Thanks to all who came and threw themselves into the practice. Some familiar faces, some new.

So we're heading off to the coast this weekend for our Spring Retreat. It's pretty much sold out, just room for one, maybe two more guys - the women's dormitory is as full as we want to see it.

Really looking forward to it.

We have a Sunday qigong workshop coming up very, very soon at The North London Buddhist Centre, details below. With the Vernal Equinox Spring is really here...

WOOD AND THE DEER - An Elemental Qigong Workshop

Wood is the power of growth and is associated with the season of Spring. In the body it manifests as the Liver and Gall Bladder organs, responsible for planning, decision-making and the free flow of Blood, Qi and the emotions. The Liver in particular is said to house our 'wild inner spirit' and its vitality governs the healthy expression of this aspect of us, including our sexuality. The expansive and spiraling qualities of Wood and its connection to these organs and their meridians will be explored in both moving and static forms. The Deer is the animal most associated with the Wood Element and we will use several Deer forms that embody the animal's power and grace. The day will be gently paced and will be perfect for the beginner. Tea will be provided.
