In our fast-paced world, managing stress is essential for maintaining mental and physical health, not just a luxury. It begins with a conscious decision to actively manage stress, instead of allowing it to control us.
Prevalence of Stress in the Workforce: A report by “Champion Health” reveals that 76% of employees report moderate-to-high or high levels of stress, with 33% stating that high levels of stress impact productivity. The top cause of work-related stress is workload, cited by 73% of employees.
With over a decade of experience in coaching clients, I've observed and learned what works best in stress management. Here are my top 3 tips:
1. 🏋🏽♂️ Functional Strength Training (FST): FST is my primary strategy. It not only boosts endorphins but also clears the mind, making it a crucial part of my daily routine. FST provides a safe outlet for releasing pent-up energy and frustration, preventing harm to relationships with colleagues, friends, or partners, as harsh words once spoken cannot be taken back.
2. 🧘♀️ Meditation: As a complement to FST, meditation offers a total balance. It helps me center my thoughts and face challenges with clarity. On tough days when your mind is scattered, I recommend taking 10 minutes for yourself in silence, or you can try the CALM 10-minute meditation app.
3. 🚿 Sauna, Steam, and Cold Shower: Finally, alternating between the soothing warmth of a sauna and the brisk shock of a cold shower rejuvenates the body and trains the mind to handle extremes.
By sharing this, I aim to spark a conversation about the importance of stress management and learn about the methods that work for others. What is your preferred way to unwind after a long day?
