the old crossroad
long gone
yet every so often
i come to another
turn
the pull is strong
drags me back
to what i know
is exit wrong

i hold the helm
one hand pulls me there
the other back
i tried to steady it
stay on track

stay where
life feels heavy
but i won’t crumble
or say
at least we are zdraví

i let those feelings
tight like knots
loosen slowly
never ending thoughts

loosen the tie
face the wind
find where that knot
ties me in
hurts and presses
hold that thought!

hold and see
what it has to say
‘the ship is safer in the harbour
how about we stay’

‘yes we could’
the other says
‘i hear you
i know you scared’

and just then
the pier disappears
the knot unties
sails lifts the wind
and wipes the tears

anchor drags
across the seabed floor
i slowly rises
back ahead
back to war

the mists lifts
there’s the sea
fresh air and
sails that flap
tchaikovskis waltz
a liberty cap
scared but steady
it’s all inside
no need for map
