Happy 🙌

There’s a lot of stigma around menopause, even in 2026.

But brain fog, fatigue, hot flushes – to name just a few – are symptoms that can affect the everyday lives of almost all women in this life stage.

Physical activity can help ease some of these symptoms, but society’s narrow perception of who belongs in this space often means sport is the last thing women feel like trying – and we can all understand why.

It's time to stop the stigma.

Women belong in sport.

Any time. Any age. Any stage💜

Meet Sola, a swimming teacher from Islington who learned to swim as an adult after decades of water phobia.

After being pushed in a pool as a child, she stayed away from the water until one day, aged 48, she decided to face her fear.

Now, she teaches children and adults to swim and helps them find the same freedom she has found in the water.

Sola has recently written a book called ‘JUMP! From Fear to Freedom’ about her swimming journey. She hopes will show other women that it’s never too late to try something new.

Sola is taking part in the Go Africa Open Book event for Black History Month at Islington Central Library on Wednesday 28th October.

THIS is why female coaches matter📢

Women coaches play a vital role in sport. They bring technical expertise, strong leadership and the lived experience that helps women and girls feel that they belong.

But our research found...
❌ 79% of female coaches who have experienced discrimination cite their s*x as the top reason
💬 18% fewer women coaches say their opinions are heard and respected
📉 71% of sports CEOs agree the sector is losing talented women because there are so few paid posts open to them

We’re currently building a movement that will redefine coaching for women in the UK.

To have the biggest possible impact, we need every single one of our supporters onside.

United we stand.

Football club US Lecce have made a statement following a recent string of femicides in Italy.

In September, a woman from a nearby town was killed by her ex-boyfriend and players decided to honour her legacy by making a bold statement.

They brought young women from the region onto the pitch with red handprints painted on their faces, symbolising violence against women and girls.

Violence and misogyny have no place in sport, or anywhere in our society.

Sport has the power to help change culture; it must use its power to stand with women and girls.

"When people imagine a coach, they imagine a man first, people expect a man," Emily Handyside told BBC Sport in a recent interview.

"These assumptions make people feel like they don't belong there. Women must work twice as hard to be respected, to be credible."

That’s exactly our charity has created the Women in Coaching Image Library, a collection of hundreds of epic images which break stereotypes and challenge perceptions of what a coach looks like.

The library will help the sports sector make sure its coaching imagery is fit for 2026; reflective of the society we live in today.

New data from our friends at Youth Sport Trust shows gendered stereotypes about sport are increasing amongst the younger generation.

Their Girls Active study found...
🏃‍♀️ Fewer than half of girls feel they have the opportunity to take part in the same range of sports and activities as boys in PE

🏉 Only around half of girls feel they have the same access to space and equipment outside of PE as boys

😪 Only 39% of girls believe boys’ and girls’ sport is seen as equally important

Girls and boys are equal, but they are not the same. If we want to make progress, we must recognise both the physiological differences and the stereotypes that shape their experiences.

Speaking about the research, our CEO Stephanie Hilborne OBE said:
"It is not acceptable to sit back and watch the gender divide between children continue to grow when it comes to sport. Sport is not a side issue, it is a fundamental right and has huge value for educational attainment, mental and physical health, and developing skills for life. We need to see more girls-only time for sport, as well as better designed and actively managed mixed classes.

“No child is born believing girls don't belong in certain sports. These ideas are learned, which means they can be unlearned. Firstly, we must unlearn them ourselves."

Netball's coming home🙌

It's just been announced that the Netball World Cup will be hosted in Manchester in 2031, the fourth time England has hosted the tournament, including the inaugural edition in Eastbourne in 1963.

Netball was built by women, for women, and more than a century later it's still one of the biggest team sports with women at its very core.

In a world where many sports are still playing catch-up on equality, that's something worth celebrating.

Hosting the World Cup on home soil is a huge opportunity to inspire the next generation and shine a spotlight on the power of women's sport. We can't wait! 💫
