Dorney Lake Sprint Triathlon 🏊♂️🚴🏻♂️🏃♂️- July 14th
⠀
It’s been over a decade since I last participated in a sprint distance triathlon, with my recent focus being on the standard distance. However, it’s always beneficial to gauge our speed capabilities. The race was definitely great fun, although I felt I could have pushed myself harder and performed better. The weather was perfect: calm water, no wind, and sunny ☀️ but not too hot or cold, ideal for a good race. Yet, triathlons involve many details that need prior consideration to avoid mistakes. Given that my last triathlon was last season, some things were bound to go wrong, but thankfully, nothing major did.
⠀
I didn’t expect to swim 🏊♂️ better than in previous races, but this segment highlighted one of those minor mistakes. My timing chip’s ankle strap felt loose, causing me to instinctively slow down my left leg’s kicking. I couldn’t shake the distraction 🤨. Next time, I’ll ensure the strap is securely fastened. Despite this, the swim wasn’t too bad.
⠀
On the bike 🚲 course, racing for the first time with my new bike, my previous impression from training was that it was slower than my old bike, and I feared I would be expending too much energy for the same result. It took me two laps out of four to realize I was mistaken. I began to push harder towards the end, but I finished feeling I hadn’t given my best effort. Next time, I’ll push harder from the start.
⠀
Into the run 🏃♂️, had a shaky start and struggled to find a steady pace until the turnaround point. After that, gradually increased my speed and finished strong, with my last kilometer being the fastest by far. Again, I felt I could have pushed harder earlier on and need to remind myself that 5k is not a very long distance.
Good race, good fun and great to meet , you did an amazing race. Special thanks to for keeping me in line with my training!
