🏊🚴🏃 DORNEY LAKE TRIATHLON 🏁

Back in the game today at the stunning Dorney Lake! Racing the day after a 2.5-week holiday 🏖️, so I knew it wouldn’t be peak form—but still proud to have pushed through 💪.

🏊 Swim: As usual, though a bit slower than I’d hoped.
🚴 Bike: Definitely the toughest leg today with some wind to contend with.
🏃 Run: Started conservatively and ended strong with a negative split—though I felt I could’ve picked up the pace earlier!

Grateful for the experience, the joy and the finish line. Onward! 🔁🔥

Box Hill Triathlon – Challenging yet stunning.
I went into it without any specific goal other than to enjoy the experience—and I certainly did.

Swim:
A full loop around Buckland Lake. It went smoothly, just as expected, and I finished within my anticipated time.

Bike:
The ride began with a short 7% climb, followed by a few gentler inclines. But at kilometer 4, the real test appeared—a 400-meter climb with a brutal 18% gradient at its steepest point! From that moment on, I was just hoping we wouldn’t have to face it again. The course up to km 20 was a mix of steep climbs and fast descents, including the iconic Box Hill Zig Zag road, which felt more manageable compared to the earlier Pebble Coombe Hill. Although the roads were open to traffic, the only drawback was having to play it safe on the downhills.

Run:
The final leg was a four-lap trail run around the lake, with a short, less enjoyable section over pebbles. I felt I could’ve pushed a bit harder, but instead, I chose to help my running companion finish strong.

Overall, I had a fantastic time. Despite the tough climbs, it was an incredibly fun and rewarding race.

Official results:
Swim: 39:15
T1: 3:12
Bike: 1:35:47
T2: 3:04
Run: 52:52

I spent three days in Nicosia, Cyprus 🇨🇾 for work, and despite the busy schedule, I managed to squeeze in two runs 🏃‍♂️around the city. The weather was hot but manageable, making it a great way to explore. One thing that stood out everywhere I went—cats! 🐈‍⬛ 🐈 They seemed to own the streets, lounging in every corner like they ran the place.

On my second run, I headed toward the border with Northern Cyprus and passed by the UN 🇺🇳 Headquarters. It is a striking contrast: a peaceful city full of sleepy cats and sunshine, divided in half and carrying a heavily symbolic and historically charge. A unique experience, to say the least.

Spent 3 days in Malta 🇲🇹 for work, but I couldn’t resist making time for a few easy runs along the island coastline 🌊. There’s nothing like the feeling of running with the sea breeze and breathtaking views as your backdrop. It was the perfect way to balance work and stay active while exploring a bit of this island! 🏃‍♂️

My last run this morning was a 5k run part of Team Zoot little competition. Quite slow, but after a late night it was expected 🙂

Battersea Park Marathon!

This morning’s marathon was a tough challenge. With 11 laps around the park, the temperature hovered around 8°C (feels like 0°. according to Strava) with a wind gusting at 27 km/h. Light drizzle persisted for a good stretch, adding to the difficulty. Despite the weather and the repetitive nature of the route, I managed to set a personal best, finishing the 43.1km in a time I’m proud of—though just shy of breaking the 4-hour mark. Although at Marathon distance I was at 3.57.32!

It wasn’t easy, but I pushed through, and the sense of accomplishment at the end was worth it.

Kudos for the lady (staff) that stayed over 5 hours in the most exposed part of the route (to the freezing wind), helping and supporting all runners! should give her a special treat 😅

Dorney Lake Sprint Triathlon 🏊‍♂️🚴🏻‍♂️🏃‍♂️- July 14th

It’s been over a decade since I last participated in a sprint distance triathlon, with my recent focus being on the standard distance. However, it’s always beneficial to gauge our speed capabilities. The race was definitely great fun, although I felt I could have pushed myself harder and performed better. The weather was perfect: calm water, no wind, and sunny ☀️ but not too hot or cold, ideal for a good race. Yet, triathlons involve many details that need prior consideration to avoid mistakes. Given that my last triathlon was last season, some things were bound to go wrong, but thankfully, nothing major did.

I didn’t expect to swim 🏊‍♂️ better than in previous races, but this segment highlighted one of those minor mistakes. My timing chip’s ankle strap felt loose, causing me to instinctively slow down my left leg’s kicking. I couldn’t shake the distraction 🤨. Next time, I’ll ensure the strap is securely fastened. Despite this, the swim wasn’t too bad.

On the bike 🚲 course, racing for the first time with my new bike, my previous impression from training was that it was slower than my old bike, and I feared I would be expending too much energy for the same result. It took me two laps out of four to realize I was mistaken. I began to push harder towards the end, but I finished feeling I hadn’t given my best effort. Next time, I’ll push harder from the start.

Into the run 🏃‍♂️, had a shaky start and struggled to find a steady pace until the turnaround point. After that, gradually increased my speed and finished strong, with my last kilometer being the fastest by far. Again, I felt I could have pushed harder earlier on and need to remind myself that 5k is not a very long distance.

Good race, good fun and great to meet , you did an amazing race. Special thanks to for keeping me in line with my training!

Tough time today assessing the extent of my lack of fitness at Weybridge half marathon 😧

First 3 km I followed the sub 1:40 pacer, but quickly realized that if I would maintain that pace this would really end in a disaster, so I slowed down slightly, which turned out to be a good decision.

I am pleased with my finishing time, as it aligns with my current expectations 😊.

Surprisingly I was first in my AG, and more surprising was that I wasn’t the only one in this AG 😅

It wasn’t easy to come back to routine but I am slowly getting into it. I am now on the second week of the first block of training and, although I feel my muscles sore (who would say that just 3 weeks of absence would have such impact on fitness?), today was time for a short ride, 🚴🏻‍♂️ followed by a brick interval run. 🏃‍♂️

After almost 3 hectic weeks I am back to the training routine and decided to reboot and restart the training plan so today was the first day of the first block of training. 🏊‍♂️ 🚴🏻‍♂️ 🏃‍♂️

Action-packed Wednesday, with a long Zwift cycling session 🚴🏻‍♂️ that truly put me through some challenging paces. Following that, I transitioned into a not less difficult interval run🏃‍♂️. To cap off this day, I went for a short relaxing swim 🏊‍♂️, barely kicking 😅.
