Scriptoria’s work has always had sustainable development at its heart. As we look back at a decade of progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we’re continuing our series celebrating 25 years of Scriptoria by revisiting some of our strategic communications projects.

Project: World Water Council’s “Start with Water” guide

Published in 2018, the World Water Council’s guide “Start with Water: Putting water on local action agendas to support global change” was developed to help local and regional authorities understand what global development frameworks mean for water management at the local level – and, importantly, act on water-related targets for their cities.
The guide brought together four major global frameworks: the New Urban Agenda, SDGs, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and Paris Agreement, alongside other water and urban development frameworks.
It then translated these complex agendas into eight practical recommendations, covering areas such as equity, water-sensitive urban planning, governance, finance, resilience, capacity, efficiency and sanitation – supported by inspiring city case studies.
Scriptoria supported the development of the guide from concept development, writing and design through to final publication, creating an accessible and practical resource for decision makers.
For us, this was a great example of how strategic communications can help turn complex global agendas into clear, engaging and actionable guidance – supporting those working on the ground to translate international commitments into local action.
The project was just one significant part of a five-year partnership with the World Water Council - Conseil Mondial de l'Eau.
