Is Bangladesh 🇧🇩 becoming a better cricket team, or are they still relying on home advantage like they did after 2015?
Bangladesh have won four consecutive ODI series:
🏆 vs West Indies (slow, low conditions)
🏆 vs Pakistan (sporting wickets)
🏆 vs New Zealand (sporting wickets)
🏆 vs Australia (sporting wickets)
- If someone had said that Bangladesh would defeat cricketing giants like Australia, New Zealand, and Pakistan in three consecutive series without taking advantage of home conditions, fans would probably have called it a daydream. But Bangladesh have now turned that dream into reality.
- Unlike the highly praised post-2015 era, Bangladesh are now showing promise across all three formats. They are becoming a better Test side and an exciting T20 team. In fact, ODI cricket was arguably their biggest concern for a while. At one point, some Bangladeshi journalists were even publishing stories claiming that Bangladesh would fail to qualify directly for the ODI World Cup, based on an incorrect qualification cutoff date. Despite that noise, there are still 7-8 months remaining in the qualification cycle, and Bangladesh have strengthened their position in the safe zone.
- This Bangladesh team is arguably stronger across all three formats than any previous generation, yet they probably receive the least backing.
- After every defeat, some fans and so-called journalists aka YouTubers, start labeling them as “Kenya” and writing them off.
The team has also had to deal with instability, effectively playing under five or six different cricket board administrations within two years. Frequent changes in leadership and systems are never ideal, but the players have continued to focus on their cricket without creating unnecessary distractions.
- The Dhaka Premier League and BPL have also seen a decline in quality, yet the players have somehow managed to keep the national team competitive and moving forward.
- One reason for this success is that this relatively young generation appears united. They play as one team and one nation. Unlike the Shakib-Tamim era, when there were often reports of divisions within the dressing room, this group seems to share a common purpose.
They believe in hard work, and despite numerous obstacles, they continue to do their job consistently and earn the results they deserve.
- The next step is to replicate this progress on the global stage. If they can produce similar performances in an ICC event or a major Asian tournament, Bangladesh can further strengthen their position in world cricket and prove that this rise is no longer just potential, but reality.
