May Ling Thomas

May Ling Thomas Transformative coaching for deschoolers, decolonisers, disruptors and new-paradigm builders. Hi! WHAT DO I MEAN BY DESCHOOLING? It doesn't have to be like that.

My name is May Ling and I’m a mother, a wife, a home educator (unschooler) of 2 daughters, a Transformative Coach and a loving disruptor. If you’re looking for a joyful way to find yourself, be a better parent, be a more inspiring educator, find a sense of purpose and direction - read on! My favourite work is helping people live a life guided by love and understanding through transformative coachi

ng and deschooling. Ah, what a rich and wonderful topic! But to keep it short, deschooling is unlearning the beliefs the school system taught us that limit our understanding of who we are and what we’re capable of. You know, beliefs like you're only as good as your exam results, that you only learn in school, and that children should be at the bottom of the power hierarchy. As you start to expose these beliefs you find you have more freedom to choose how you want to live your life, how you want children to be treated, and what you can create as an expression of who you are, rather than who you should be. WHAT DO I MEAN BY TRANSFORMATIVE COACHING? I mean one day you have an insight that completely changes the way you see yourself and the world. All the obstacles and problems you had suddenly become irrelevant and new, fresh possibilities start sprouting in what seem like miraculous ways, and conditioning you thought you were stuck with just melts away. THIS is what happens with transformative coaching. We’re not looking for incremental change, or holding you accountable to do things you think you should be doing. We’re looking for paradigm shifts that come from a deeper understanding of how our human experience is created. A JOYFUL PATH OF SELF-DISCOVERY

If you’ve ever done personal growth work you’ll know that it can be exhausting, leave you feeling horribly exposed and vulnerable, and the work is N.E.V.E.R.E.N.D.I.N.G. On its own, deschooling can be a liberating path that helps you to realise it’s not YOU that’s broken, it’s not the child who’s the problem, that it’s not down to your personal sacrifice to make things work. I highly recommend it! And when combined with Transformative Coaching that liberating path can be gorgeous, filled with ease, and a deep, nourishing peace - a joy in itself. That’s what’s on offer, and if you feel like this approach might be exactly what you need right now, then reach out!

Join me and Dan Moeller Daniel T. Moeller M.S.Ed. for a Sunday Session on Deschooling Ourselves, hosted by creators of The Unschooling Summit Esther Jones | Mindful Parenting & Unschooling and Melissa of Weave ND.

8-9.30pm UK time

Deschooling is a lifelong process that can deepen into decolonising. Bit by bit, and sometimes in huge leaps, we can rediscover how joyful learning through relationship can be when we shed the shoulds and musts that the school system (and all the other systems we live in) impose on us.

It can also be a bit relentless 🙃 and Deschooling is so much better done in a supportive community.

Join us as we share our personal journeys and be part of the conversation sharing your own wisdom, and asking what is alive for you right now.

Hope to see you there 💚
With love
ML

I have unconsciously always categorised poetry as rather high brow, intellectual and not for me, so it was with great joy that I discovered the Eco Poetry at the Teviot Centre run by Leaders in Community on Tuesday. Mixing collage with some fun, inspiring and thought provoking games, my youngest and I had a great time playing with words and pictures and finding something to say. It’s all part of a new programme of workshops connected to the Food Justice Trailor currently in residence.

I really enjoyed finding another way to say how awesome we humans are, how we are all needed, and how we should all spend some time gardening both literally and metaphorically :)

Poem in the photo created from cut out text from an organic gardening magazine, mixed with handwritten words:

I meant to post the full line up earlier but moving house kinda got in the way! If you register you can catch up with the recordings of the first three talks with Kelly Rigg Lucy Aitkin-Read -disco and Chris Bagley, and join the rest live, especially the youth day on Friday.

Tonight at 5.30pm BST (Thursday 23rd April) I’ll be joining Fabienne Vailes (SFHEA) Sifaan Zavahir and Je’anna L Clements to share the experiences of our lives without school, and imagine together (with you!) what the future could look like.

Please come and bring your reflections, observations and questions so we can stoke our collective imagination and build a future vision together!
