Renee.FIIT “The beginning of your better version”

Everyday I have to remind myself to return back to basics. Grasp the previous lessons and things I have learnt in the past and apply it.

Today I held a 'fitness' session for some secondary school children. Now at this age they are more compliant so it was not a case of having to tell them off, however, I have developed a mentality that everything must happen in a certain order for me to be satisfied.

3pm hit and we could not find the speaker we usually use to do these fitness sessions. I leave the hall, run upstairs in panic...no teacher can be found. No solutions. At last I find someone, they tell me that the speaker is in a special place where only the caretaker has the key for. Great. Now I have to break the news to the boys.

I go out to them. Take a deep breath and explain that we do not have a speaker. Prior to this I had gotten a football out and gave it to them to keep them occupied so do you think they cared about us not having the speaker? Of course not. They were 5 goals, 3 fouls and an injury into a football session which was so disorganised but I observed how much fun they were having.

Fitness was scrapped and we played 3 v 3. Sometimes things do not have to be perfect. They may even go the complete opposite way to what we plan but as long as we can read the room and adapt then we can always overcome these obstacles that are inevitable.

I hope this clears your mind because it has cleared mine.

I train a client who is in the top 1% of earners in the UK.

I was working a retail job for 2 years. Dealing with customers in the city...It taught me a lot. It taught me about how to conduct yourself around those who are deemed 'prestigious' and that there are levels to standards that people both have and hold for themselves. I think one of my greatest traits is to understand how to deal with standards at many levels.

This is because I was easy to speak to. Not judgemental but most importanly I listened and took in information. There I met someone important in the company who is a real inspiration and important individual both in my life and development.

This wont be long...but one thing he stated to me which I will never forget is that 'You know when you're on the right path when you start saying no to people more'. That is no to the useless interactions, No to the things that never used to interest me but I did it because I felt I needed to. No to all the nonsense overall. I thing the best thing is that I was already applying that to my life when he told me but I hadn't completely understood sacrifice but it confirmed by beliefs.

Its only when you realise you have to constantly be saying no to really reach an important point in self development. From there its only what benefits you that you focus on.

I hope this message reaches you

I realised something about myself today...

Now look, there aren't many revelations along my journey. I spend most days doing the same things and making little changes in order to maximise my potential and utilise my time well.

But every now and then I find out something about myself because, lets be honest, there are always lessons around us but reflection seems to always bring these lessons to light.

I usually train adults and I am not in the business of telling people off because we are all grown after all but recently I have started doing a class for primary school students. Originally my plan was to find a way for them to stay fit but add some fun into it and on day 1 my plan went to absolute crap.

Instead what my lesson here was to deal with the most difficult humans to try put into order...Do i get frustrated? I think that is an understatement but the real lesson for me is developing the ability to be firm in my instruction, demonstrate my authority (most times not to their liking) but also switching that off in an instant and leading a fun session where the kids would want to return, and lately have been enjoying it more and more.

I used to dread doing these sessions but it has developed another skill in me which I may have to call onto in the future so I guess we can all do things we may not like in the start and find ways for it to work. Take the lesson from that and build on it more...who knows what else you can learn or even the where your development may take you.

I hope this clears your mind.

I have come to believe that knowing how to bounce back from a huge obstacle is more important than the fact that the obstacle took place and you did not stop it. These are where our lessons are and if we choose to ignore them then we will continue to make the same mistakes...THAT is how you end up in an unhealthy loop.

I remember one month (not too long ago). I had some time off work. I had around £8 in my bank account which meant no food. I also did not have enough money to pay for a parking permit so I was constantly looking outside to check my car for tickets (avoiding those traffic wardens). On top of that my phone bill was not paid and the services cut off...and yes, you guessed it (or you didn't) My car was due for an MOT and some new tyres.

If you would ask me how I would have reacted about a year before that then I would have told you that I would blame the world and wonder why all these bad things happen to me. 'WHY ME?!' The amount of times I have told myself that in the past.

This time though I understood it was all my fault and had seeked out alternatives already. Prepared for the worst possibilities so I can do the most important thing and that is to solve the problem.

Do not panic, find what works for you and seek out solutions and not problems. There's no development in complaining.

I hope this clears your mind.

Always do what works for you...

I know in my previous post i mentioned the importance of coming out of your comfort zone but it is only by doing so that you will discover what is best for you. Trial and error is important. It is only there that you will discover what works and what does not. Allow yourself to fail...

I started a consistent run in the gym around 8-9 months ago. People may call it genetics but it could not be done without the hard work. I completely changed my habits and my physique. But do you think I am doing the same things that I was doing when I started all them months ago? If you do then you'd be kidding yourself.

On a journey of consistency there are many lessons that will be thrown at you and those lessons are the opportunity for growth. To ignore those is to ignore you mere existance as its the thing that propels you to that next level that you chase.

I have changed diets, exercises, intensity levels, amount of sleep. I have tried out different supplements and wanted to get to a point where what I was doing was both positive for my growth and my health. I may not be doing what the next man is but thats because he is doing what works for him. I do not want to be a body builder or want to neccesarily always be right. I instead want to look after my body and get things wrong in order to find the right answers for others because as a trainer I believe that is our job. When you have anybodys dreams or aims to help them achieve I believe that is your job.

I hope this clears your mind. And a happy sunday!

Getting out of your comfort zone...

For a while (maybe around 3 years ago) I felt that I was the most unlucky person in the world. I used to always sit there , alone and think 'Why do these negative things always happen to me'. I honestly felt that I was putting in work for so many years and I had nothing to show for it and I did what every mediocre person does and blamed everyone else for it but myself. Like the world was against me and secretly someone was praying on my downfall.

This was not the issue, of course, because when I really looked at it I had not been coming out of my comfort zone. Look, the harsh reality is that there are no lessons in the comfort zone that is going to propel you up. Lessons are learnt when we make ourselves vulnerable. I mean really and truely there are only 2 possibilities:

1. You are going to do well at this new thing you have tried and it will give you confidence.

2. You will not be too good at this new thing, however, it will indicate to you how to do better for next time because you did the 1 thing most people don't do, and that it to try.

Trying something is huge because its a small win and its your small win, nobody can take that from you. Its personal.

It will do you good to choose the more difficult option whenever you are presented with one because (and given that the risk to reward is worth it) that is where the most growth lies.

I hope this clears your mind.

A hobby of mine is reading books. I picked up this passion around 2 years ago and went crazy! I think I read about 15 books that year...I mean that’s crazy for me Im not sure what the average for books read a year is. One commonality between financially successful people is their work ethic and the amount of hours they put in a day. 14, 16, 18 hour days of non stop graft. This changed my perspective quite a lot because I too wanted the success they have. We’ve seen people becoming successful overnight because of social media but where is the longevity? I can almost be certain that they would have lasted if their work ethic and the hours they had put in was high.

However, on the other hand, there always seems to be a sacrifice they make and, in most cases, it seems to be family. This also changed my perspective again (remember to be a forever student). Now look...I want all the success in the world and will put in the hours to achieve that, however, I refuse to do this at the expense of family cohesion. In the end I believe that is all we have and to neglect that is to neglect the very thing that really gives your life purpose. Whenever we are in crisis we call on people who love us...Not the money in our bank accounts.

The issue now is I was then faced with another problem...I was now struggling to enjoy my Idle time. I had built up a work ethic of around 14-16 hours a day depending on how busy the day was going but I was getting addicted to the work I was doing. You see progress, you get the dopamine hit and you want more. I have a young 2 year old daughter and I will be transparent when I say that this was getting into the way of our time together and, for me, this was not acceptable.

What did I do? I worked on my Idle time. I started planning my Idle time like I plan my work for the week. It makes everything clearer for me. It allows me to put in the hours during the week and also ensure that there is much time for family on the weekend. The balance that I need in my life.

I hope this clears your mind.

Whenever you have something very important to you or a dream that you are trying to chase its always important to remember that there will be people along your journey who will let you down and disappoint you...You will do well not to take this personally.

around 6 years ago I had an idea to start a podcast with my best friend. I was so excited about this and i could not even wait to get started. Not only because we wanted our voices to be heard but also because I wanted to become successful and would have loved to do it with my best friend...Imagine the scenes!

However when it came to recording he would always turn up late or sometimes not turn up at all. Always give excuses and did not even really prep much for filming. I sat there for a while and wondered why he would not just get his act together and be on point but the truth of the matter is this (and I apply this to every single thing I do)...Your dreams and goals are the most important to you and nobody else so naturally they would not put in the effort that you do. I realised that creating the podcast was my dream and not his so I can't even expect him to give it the attention and energy that I was willing to.

About 2 years later I started one with another one of my friends who was willing to show commitment and effort for the podcast. Sometimes something better is around the corner for you and to combat disappointment you will do yourself a world of good by preparing actively for disappointment.

I hope this clears your mind

The hardest part of the everyday graft is putting in the work and not seeing results for extended periods of time.

Lets be honest...We live in a world full of instant gratification so even the thought of doing something which does not show instant results is a little scary for most.

I worked in maritime sales for about a year. We sold technology for ships to ensure the safety of seafearers across the globe. When i started I was told that I have targets to meet and did I ever meet them...No. In the beginning my pitch was rushed and the tonage was all wrong. I read books and brushed up my knowledge on the product to ensure I was confident when trying to qualify a prospect. After a year I got let go which would be negative in some peoples eyes but I done some reflecting and this is what I realised:

1. My confidence in person and on the phone had increased tenfold from the start of my sales journey to the end.
2. My presentation skills had shot through the roof and I was alot more confident looking into peoples eyes when speaking to them.

But most importantly number 3 is that I had attained some key skills which would prove to be valuable for when I left. I was now able to speak to people and keep their attention. I was able to get exactly what I want from a conversation by controlling it and my work ethic became unmatched.

My point here is to celebrate the little wins we have. Sometimes we can be so focused on the end goal that we forget to use those smaller victories to our advantage for when the dark days come...because we can count on them to do so.

13/11/2023

This morning I came into my place of work and was completely thrown into the oblivion. All of a sudden my work day which usually consist of a set schedule is no longer available and I have to adapt and change. For some people this could make or break their day...even throw them off enough to affect performance but I pride myself on my adaptability.

One thing we can rely on life to do is throw us curve balls at any given time. So instead of complaining when life does what you expect (crazy right) maybe you can put yourself in a position where you know what to do to be able to adapt to he curve balls being thrown.

Wether it’s the workplace or even at Home with family you have to know how to adapt to survive. Its why most businesses are not successful and most marriages do not work. Because people are not willing to adapt.

Don’t be like everyone, Its boring!

I was asked an interesting question while filming content yesterday. Before his set on shoulder press he said to me 'You are someone who is very consistent with what you do, How do you stay motivated?'. I love answering this question because it gives me the opportunity to give a reality check...which is always healthy.

Motivation, like happiness or even anger, is a temporary feeling so it is impossible to be motivated all the time. DISCIPLINE is a permanent action and so it is possible to apply to yourself every second of every day.

I had 3 rules that I could give him at the time.

1. Never be too emotionally attached to what you are doing. When you start to lower expectation, it opens a path for you to begin doing the things you need to do because you no longer chase instant reward.

2. Trial and Error. Not everything is going to work..In fact most things are not going to work but if you follow Rule 1 and try different things you will eventually find something that works then you can build on that. Remember you can fail 100 times, all it takes is to succeed once to get to where you want to or at least make a step in the right direction.

3. Make sure the get-back is always stronger. Naturally we can fall back into old habits or miss out on things we were supposed to do. Basically we can lose our disclipline. Do not let this go on for too long and make sure that you work even harder when you come back. My rule is that I dont miss more than 2 days at the gym for example.

Be a forever student!

Before you think that I am telling you to stay in a school institution for the rest of your life. This is not what I mean. Always be willing to learn. We cannot ever stop learning!

Before getting into fitness and finding my passion for improving the lives of many people I wanted to become a professional footballer...Like almost every teenage boy.

We all hear the stories about the knee injury but that was not the case for me. I was just not good enough...I mean I was a really good player but I was not good enough. Why? Because talent can only take you so far and at one point you have to apply hard work. I had a coach telling me what I needed to improve on and I ignored it so I never improved and never gave myself the best chance to make it.

About 2 years ago I got a job working in sales and it was all about being open to learning and taking accountability. When I internalised those 2 things and I applied them to every aspect of my life that I wanted to improve I saw drastic changes. Always be open to learning because after all 'He who feels he knows everything knows he knows nothing at all'
