Your motivation is killing your progress and you don’t even know it

Those doing the work know that motivation is a SCAM

At least in the traditional sense

That feeling is being motivated is hard to produce

It requires so many things to be in place

Good sleep, low stress, free time, energy

In reality… most people don’t have these things in abundance

Let me ask you this…

If I gave you less sleep, push f you harder than normal in work, demanding more for higher output, then added a family event, maybe some travel…

Would you expect to feel motivated?

Usually the bad week for most men is a bad 6 months which is essentially “normal”

I don’t think people should rely on that motivational feeling

Stick to standards and show up regardless,

The motivation will come when you see the results of not missing

It doesn’t have to be perfect

Side note… can’t believe how grown up this boy can be at times… feels like yesterday he was in my arms as a little baby

After my dad passed, I asked Luka what’s the most important things in life

He came out with “love, friendships, happiness and health”

My heart melted

It reconfirmed the fact I’m doing a good job

I spoke a few words at my dads funeral and as hard as it was… it was about paying respects to him, his life and what he’s done

He had a tough end, he had a few conditions from depression and dementia, but ultimately passed from Parkinson’s

This made his last few years challenging for him and those around him

Some things can’t be helped, genetics, environment, luck

But some things can

We have free will

I’ve seen people dealt terrible cards in life, yet they show up with the right attitude and change the narrative

I even had a conversation with an old client today

While talking about an endurance race he was running,

He questioned himself,

Saying “this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done”

But it wasn’t

Sickness, building a company, raising kids were all harder

Those are the real challenges

Running an ultra marathon, that was a choice for him

And for him, it was about proving to himself he could

He didn’t have to, he “got to”

We all have a choice

For me, my motivation’s changed

I’m working now to be healthy when I’m 69 and beyond (the age my dad passed)

It’s never too late but the longer you leave it, the harder it gets

For now, I’ll continue to be present with my boy

Hard when grieving but it’s forcing me to evolve, improve my emotional intelligence and expand my capacity for love and empathy
