If you focus on creating a 12 month block that includes: strength and you add power to your blocks your races are going to improve so much. If you want to finish strong you need to look at your body holistically, not just your legs, not just your core but to have a helicopter perspective.

So strength is a must: its the size of your engine, lift heavy s**t.
POWER is strength expressed at speed. This what your running economy depends on: POWER + STRENGTH.

If you train only one then you will … struggle. DNF or finish destroyed.

So here’s my suggestion:

If you want to finish your next trail race strong add POWER:

A nearly forgot: don’t do plyometric work if you are on a calorie deficit or are working on losing weight.

So POGO Hops, 3 sets of 20 quick ground contact not height.
Bounding 3 sets of 20 meteres, drive off the ground fast
Low box jumps 3 sets of 5: land soft reset each rep.
Hill Springs 5 to 8 reps of 8 seconds uphill, full recovery between.
Max effort not conditioning.

This are some examples, I’m always skeptical giving exercises without knowing the person because you might have a huge imbalance on one side… and then you know… injury happen.

Save this when you are thinking of your programme design.
