Murieston Reds 2 – 3 Musselburgh Windsor 2012 🔴

We could not be more proud of the girls' performance tonight. 👏👏

There are no easy games in the Joelle Murray League, and our third match in six days was no exception.

Tonight we faced an older and very talented Musselburgh 2012 side, and from the first whistle to the last the girls went toe-to-toe with them.

In truth, we felt Murieston had the better of the game for long periods and were extremely unfortunate not to take at least something from it.

A demanding run of fixtures has brought a few injuries, and we had to ask a number of girls to step into slightly unfamiliar roles. The way they adapted and embraced those challenges was outstanding.

Although the result didn't go our way, the coaches genuinely feel this was probably the strongest all-round performance the girls have produced to date and a massive platform to build on moving forward.

Tonight wasn't just about being compact and difficult to break down out of possession. When we won the ball, our transitions were rapid, our combinations were slick, and we caused our opponents problems throughout the game.

The first half was particularly impressive. We felt we controlled large spells of the match and were rewarded when Summer produced a wonder strike from a wide position to give the Reds a deserved lead. We continued to create chances and felt a bigger scoreline would have been a fair reflection of the play.

The second half again started well, but Musselburgh definitely stepped up their play and, unfortunately, we switched off on a couple of occasions and conceded two weak goals.

However, we continued to press and attack and then, unfortunately, a bit of a stramash ended in Musselburgh getting a third.

This one was a sore one to take, as we think everyone at the game (on both sides) were stunned that a goal was awarded and not a free kick.

The girls refused to give in. A brilliant run from Aria resulted in a late challenge inside the penalty area, and Maya confidently converted the penalty to bring us back within one goal.

From there, Murieston pushed relentlessly for an equaliser right until the final whistle and came agonisingly close on more than one occasion, but unfortunately it wasn't to be.

Despite the defeat, there is so much for the girls to take from this performance. The effort, quality, resilience and belief they showed throughout the game was outstanding.

There were a number of excellent performances across the pitch tonight, but the coaches felt that Aria deserved special recognition, producing an outstanding display to earn Player of the Match. 👏

We thank Musselburgh for making the trip and contributing to what was a fantastic advert for the girls' game, and we wish them every success for the remainder of the season. 🔴⚽

Spartans 0 – 1 Murieston Reds 🔴

A welcome return to winning ways for the Reds today away to Spartans.

The final scoreline certainly doesn’t tell the full story of the game.

After a run of extremely tough fixtures, the girls faced a different type of challenge this afternoon against a well-organised Spartans side determined to make life difficult for us.

From the first whistle, Murieston controlled the game, enjoying the vast majority of possession and patiently looking for a way through a stubborn Spartans defence.

The girls dominated from start to finish, producing wave after wave of attacks and showing great discipline to stick to the game plan. Despite creating a number of opportunities, the breakthrough proved frustratingly difficult to find.

To their credit, the girls remained patient and continued to move the ball well, and that persistence was finally rewarded in the latter stages of the game when Murieston found the goal that their performance deserved.

On another day the scoreline would perhaps have reflected the balance of play more accurately, but the most important thing was securing the three points.

There were a number of excellent performances across the pitch today, but the coaches felt that Elizabeth was the standout performer, producing a superb display to earn Player of the Match.

There are no easy games at this level, and attention now quickly turns to another excellent test on Tuesday night against Musselburgh 2012.

Murieston Reds 1 – 4 Bonnyrigg Selkirk 🔴

Tonight saw the Reds take on Bonnyrigg Selkirk, the strongest side in the South East and one of the top regional teams in the country.

This was our second match in a row against older Tier 1 opposition, and we knew we faced a huge challenge against a team that has been producing some outstanding results this season.

The game plan tonight was simple: stay compact, work relentlessly, disrupt the opposition's rhythm and make life as difficult as possible for them. The girls absolutely delivered on that.

We knew stepping into Tier 1 in our first year would bring challenges, but the girls have earned their place at this level and deserve the opportunity to test themselves against the very best opposition available to them.

This season has also required the girls to adapt their game. At times we've asked them to be compact, disciplined and difficult to break down, while at others we've encouraged them to play with freedom and express themselves. The maturity they are showing in adapting between those different styles continues to impress.

The girls worked their socks off from first whistle to last. While we never enjoy being beaten, there is absolutely no shame in this result. In fact, there is a lot to be proud of. Against what is probably the strongest team they will face all season, the girls stayed organised, competed for everything and restricted the visitors to far fewer chances than they would normally expect to create.

Their hard work and constant pressure was rewarded when Maya pulled a goal back for the Reds and gave the team something to build on.

We take plenty of confidence from tonight's performance, dust ourselves down and look ahead to another tough challenge away to Spartans on Saturday.

Tonight was one of the hardest Player of the Match decisions we've had all season. So many girls gave absolutely everything for the team that we decided there could only be one winner:
