Accessible Hike Reviews: Loggerheads Country Park

Is the country park really accessible? Today we’re giving it a full RoveAbility rating to help you decide if it’s the right hike for you!

Facts about the route:
📏 Length: between 0.5 miles and 17.07 miles depending on how far you take it
🌲 Terrain: concrete with stones. Not the easiest but not deep so doable for me.
🏔️ Incline: The route itself is mostly flat, however the cafe and amenities (toilets etc) are down a really steep hill which we struggled with greatly
⭐ RoveAbility Rating: "For Many" (This depends on your level of mobility and equipment).

A big thank you to Lee for joining Luke on this route and agreeing to be featured on this video. A second opinion on the routes is how we can be as accurate as possible for our audience!

Our opinion:
We believe this park is definitely worth a visit. The views are fantastic and the route is not too difficult if you can avoid the single steep hill. Also, there are two car parks. One is on level with the route, the other is at the bottom of a substantial hill to the beginning of the route. We reccomend you take this into account when parking.

🌲 Newmillerdam Country Park (Wakefield) Accessibility Rating: For Most 💚
A peaceful woodland walk with lakeside views, wide compact paths, and plenty of places to pause.
Newmillerdam is one of Wakefield’s most welcoming outdoor spaces for people with varying mobility needs.

What stood out for us:
• Smooth, well‑maintained paths around the lake
• Gentle gradients suitable for manual wheelchairs and mobility scooters
• Beautiful scenery from start to finish
• Easy parking and facilities nearby

Whether you’re rolling, strolling, or exploring with family, this is a spot that truly opens the outdoors to more people.

Can you navigate through the heart of Delamere Forest without getting caught up?
Today, we are putting the Blackmere Trail to the ultimate test using the RoveAbility scoring system for access!
In this video we cover the terrain: Gravel, grass or concrete path?
Gradient: Will we struggle up a steep hill or is it smooth & even sailing today?
For the most part it was fairly flat, however there are a few hills which are really quite steep.

Facilities: The real deal or a parking and personal care nightmare?
There is one central hub with a changing places toilet, standard accessible toilet, and abundant parking spaces.

We have rated this route "For Some" as it poses some significant challenges for people that use non-specific mobility aids.

The route has a nearby cafe around half way through the route and car parking, though this can become busy frequently.

The terrain itself is uneven and stoney with narrow sections.

At the beginning of the direction that we took there was a particularly steep slope down.
There are other options so doing your research on the best place for you to begin is important.

Please note: This route was completed while I (Emma) was on holiday with my family. Luke wasn’t there for this one, but we still felt it was important to share our opinion on the level of accessibility at Buttermere, especially as it’s such a popular natural beauty spot.

📌 Festival Gardens - Liverpool

Today's route takes us to Liverpool's Festival Gardens. This route, a longstanding personal favourite of Luke's, was first set up as the very first garden festival in the UK in 1984!

Summery: Overall we think that this route would be "For Many" as it is mostly flat concrete, has lots of accessible parking and is relatively short.

The route however has no toileting facilities on-site (subject to change after renovation). The hills are also quite steep inclines parts and small parts of the garden are cobbled.
