🇬🇧🤝🇫🇷 Anglo-French relations have officially improved this weekend… although Montpellier may never fully recover 🍻🏉

The touring party have landed in the South of France armed with questionable French, strong opinions on rugby and absolutely no intention of behaving quietly.

Cultural exchanges so far include:
🥖 Attempting to order beer in French
🏉 Explaining what a “proper pint” is
🎶 Teaching the locals songs they definitely didn’t ask to hear
🍷 Testing French hospitality one bar at a time

What an outstanding way to round off the season for our mini and junior section.

Across all age groups, from U7s through to U15s (including our girls teams), players represented Waterloo with real pride, commitment, and togetherness. Whether it was festivals, tournaments, tours, or finals days, every team showed the same core values—effort, respect, teamwork, and enjoyment—both on and off the pitch. ❤️💚🤍

There were standout moments everywhere: brilliant attacking rugby, committed defending, close-fought games, and plenty of success along the way. Just as importantly, there was fantastic team spirit, great behaviour, and strong support for one another throughout. From first festivals to tour experiences and cup finals, every group contributed to what has been a hugely positive season for the club.

A big thank you to all players, coaches, parents, and volunteers for their continued support and commitment to Waterloo Rugby. 🏉

What an end to the season. See you all next season for more brilliant rugby

Massive congratulations to our Under 15s on their incredible 22–17 victory over Bury in the Lancashire Plate Final! 🏆

A brilliant performance from start to finish, showing determination, teamwork and real character to get the win at Vale of Lune on Sunday. Every player gave it their all and did the club proud.

A huge thank you as well to the coaches, parents and supporters who have backed the team every step of the way this season 🏆

Last weekend it was our sad duty to share news of the passing of long-time member and former local teacher John Hall.

We now have details of John's funeral arrangements for those who would like to pay their respects in person. His funeral will take place at All Saints with St Frydeswide, on Forefield Lane in Crosby, at 1pm on Tuesday 19th May, with a reception afterwards at Firwood Waterloo's Memorial Ground on St Anthony's Road, Blundellsands. All are welcome.

Fantastic to see the RFU recognising the return of our Women's team to competitive action a couple of weeks ago.

Just like the proverbial buses, you wait ages and then two come at once, with Firwood Waterloo Women and Girls Rugby playing again this Sunday, 3 May, away at Sandbach.

This weekend we have something a bit different, we have a touring team coming down in the form of Hartlepool Rovers who will be playing against a 2nd / 3rd XV combined team at The Memorial Ground.

Well it’s been an eventful season for our 1st team who put in a battling performance on Saturday to claim the bonus point we needed to secure our place in this league for next season.

After a tough start the green boys battled all season to win the right to build on these foundations and really make progress next year.

Through all of the ups and downs – the last gasp victories and defeats – you, their loyal supporters, have been there to cheer the lads on, win, lose or draw.

That’s why, for the first time, there will be a new category at the end of season dinner – Supporters’ Player of the Season.
