After a busy pre-season, we’re now two games in and had two completely different games!

Things didn’t go our way on the opening day of the season with a 1-4 loss at home against Oxford Grove Tigers.

We never really got going but played some decent stuff at points with a well worked team goal when Benji pinged a long ball to Liam, who slid it through for Jake to slot home on his weak foot.

Liam picked up Man of the Match and Parents’ Player of the Match for a captain’s display, keeping the boys positive throughout, despite the scoreline.

In our second game we asked the boys for a massive response away at Abraham Moss Warriors and wasn’t disappointed with a 3-5 win.

Byron got us started with a typical never-gives-up finish, sliding in to tap home after Louie’s shot was saved.

Our second came when Lewis slipped a ball through for Jake to run onto and hit low past the keeper.

Jake grabbed his second with a big header from a well-placed corner.

He secured his hat-trick, running onto a parry from the keeper to smash it on the half-volley.

Toby wrapped it up, meeting Finlay’s cross on his left foot to place it into the far corner.

Jake took the Man of the Match and Parents’ Player of the Match awards for a brilliant performance full of clever runs, passes, lots of tricks and a hat-trick.

Happy birthday to one of the trickiest wingers in the business, turning 12 today.

Jake is set for a massive season with us frustrating plenty of defenders and lots of goals, starting with our match this Saturday. On top of that, he’s starting high school next week. Big week!

Happy birthday to our last line of defence, who finally celebrated his 12th birthday today.

Sammy’s dedication to being the best he can be led him to winning the most improved award from the coaches last season and he’s looking forward to taking the same effort into the new season.

Two tournaments. Two semi-final appearances. The lads have put in an incredible effort over the last few weeks.

The togetherness they’ve built in pre-season is great to see and while the penalties didn’t go our way today, the determination and heart they all showed is a credit to each of them and shows how far they’ve all come.

Keep your heads up, boys. You’ve done yourselves proud and we’ll take the momentum into the new season.

Come on Tigers!

On Friday night we held our end of season awards night for the boys at Little Lever Working Men’s Club.

We had a great time celebrating another fantastic season and it was brilliant to see the lads enjoying a night away from the football pitch together.

Every player collected a gift from the coaches as well as a well deserved participation award for all of their hard work, commitment and effort throughout the season.

As always, the votes were incredibly close and any of the lads could have picked up an award, but this year’s winners were:

Most Improved
Sammy has worked tirelessly all season, putting in extra training sessions and showing a real desire to improve. His confidence in coming off his line has grown massively and his ability to spot danger before it develops has made him a key part of our team. The progress he has made between the sticks this season has been fantastic to see and thoroughly deserves recognition.

Managers Player
Our captain Liam has led the team brilliantly this season. His commitment, consistency and ability to marshal the defence saw him pick up more Man of the Match awards than anyone else. Despite playing most of the season on the left side of defence, he also had more goal involvements than any other player in the squad. A player who sets the standard every week.

Parents Player
Benji stood out to the parents because of his fantastic attitude and consistently high performances throughout the season. He’s become one of the first names on the team-sheet and has found his true home in defence where his ability to read danger and be in the right place at the right time makes him a huge part of the team.

Players Player
After picking up our Most Improved award last season, Benji being recognised by the lads this year says everything about the hard work he has put in. His willingness to play wherever the team needs him, his reliability and the standards he sets every week have earned him the respect of everyone in the squad.

We’re already looking forward to next season and will be getting back to it, putting the hard graft in soon.

Well done Tigers. A tough season at points, but one we can all learn from. We’ll keep working hard and come back stronger next season!

Happy birthday to Finlay and Jacob, celebrating their 12th birthday today!

The twins have become integral members of the team this season.

Finlay has developed his wing play, with his trademark tenacity to win the ball and get a cross or shot off.

Jacob has improved on his defensive abilities to help break up play in the middle of the park and push the team forward.

We hope you’ve had a great day boys and you celebrate all week in the half term!

It was the last game of the season today, away against a Woodbank Warriors side we drew against a couple of games ago.

With a change in formation and a different forward lineup than usual, the boys were well up for the challenge, despite the difference in league positions.

We started on the front foot and were unfortunate not to go ahead after a few gut-busting runs forward, but without the end product we deserved.

After a few changes, we stayed on top and eventually got the goal we deserved when Reuben’s tackle came through to Louie, who rounded a defender and scored despite the keeper’s initial save.

We went into the break in the lead, but the opposition pegged us back shortly after the restart, despite us playing well in attack and defence.

We went another goal up when Lewis’ pass found Reuben on the edge of the box, who finished in the far corner - the only place the keeper couldn’t get to it.

The game finished 2-2 despite one of the best team performances of the season and a fantastic display of the lads putting the game plan into action.

Our man of the match today was Liam, who took his captain’s responsibilities seriously, marshalling his defence and putting in a fantastic personal display - constantly popping up for a last-second tackle.

The Parents Player was Sammy, who pulled off some big saves to keep us in the game and did plenty to put off the attack when they were clear on goal, including a slide tackle in the box!

What a great finish to a tough season, boys. You came to the party with big performances against some tough teams. Well done!

Another birthday and this time it’s Alby turning 12 today.

Our number 5 has come on a lot this season, picking up more game time than ever before with big performance on the right side of defence and using his strength cleverly to get the ball without having to put a tackle in.

Happy birthday to Benji, who turned 12 today!

After starting as a forward in the team, our number 6 has well and truly found his home in any defensive position and has consistently been a solid performer across the season.
