Series standings after Round 4...

Incredibly we have riders from 6 different clubs topping the 6 series standings!

With one more round to go, four riders have already claimed the series title in their age category - with 2 categories and all of the podium placings still very much up for grabs when we conclude after the summer.

Henry Sharp (West Lothian Clarion Cycling Club) has moved into the lead on his own for the first time this year, but Thomas MacLeod (Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO) can still beat him to the title. Gregor McNaught and Jonasz Szczepanski remain in contention for the second and third places.

Sarah McCormac (Edinburgh RC) has extended her lead in the Youth A Female series, but Emie Smith (Stirling Bike Club / Wallace Warriors) can still claim the title if results go her way in August. Erin Knox (Kingdom Velo) is also guaranteed a medal, but will it be silver or bronze?

Boo Williams (Clydesdale Colts) has successfully defended the Youth B Female title she won last year, winning all 4 races so far this year. Second and third is now a final race shoot-out between Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO teammates Isla Reekie and Rose Martin.

Henry Lockett (Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO) has secured the Youth B Open series win having also won all 4 races to date. Teammate Alexander Mullen and Alasdair Ogg (Johnstone Jets Youth Cycling) will finish second and third, but in which order?

Isla Sim (Johnstone Jets Youth Cycling) now has unassailable lead in the Youth C Girls series thanks to her 3 wins and Tuesday's results. Zoe Martin (Clydesdale Colts), Gemma Tattersall and Lucy Dixon (both Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO) and Isla Patterson can all still finish on the podium.

Euan McDonald (Stirling Bike Club / Wallace Warriors) can't be caught in the Youth C Boys series, but his teammate Keir Campbell, Benjamin Mullen (Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO), Magnus Ogg (Johnstone Jets Youth Cycling) and Teo Luszkiewicz-Kirsz (Edinburgh RC) are all still in the mix for the other podium placings.

A rider's best 4 results from the 5 rounds count towards the final standings.

The final round is on Tuesday 18th August - where we will present the series prizes - and you can enter here now: https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/332501/The-Richard-Moore-Youth-Race-Series-2026---Round-5

Kudos to everyone who raced in Round 4 on Tuesday evening at West Lothian Cycle Circuit - especially those racing with us for the very first time.

The threat of rain meant we decided not to go ahead with our plan to run two shorter 20 minute crits for the Youth A and Bs, but that just meant the attacks and breakaway wins over 40 minutes were even more impressive!

In the final Youth D Girls race this year, Jessica McDonald (Stirling Bike Club / Wallace Warriors) took her second win in a row - and was second overall in the combined boys and girls race.

In the boys’ category, Olafs Lacis (Edinburgh RC), after podiums in Rounds 2 and 3, finished on the top step this round.

Gemma Tattersall (Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO) went one better than last round to take her first win in the series in the the Youth C Girls category.

Euan McDonald (Stirling Bike Club / Wallace Warriors), having come second last round, was back on the top step of the Youth C Boys for his third win in 4 rounds.

Boo Williams (Clydesdale Colts) made it 4 from 4 with another dominant ride in the Youth B Female category, riding in the Youth A chase group for the whole race.

Henry Lockett (Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO) also made it 4 from 4 in the Youth B Open category. Where his previous wins were courtesy of sprint finishes, this time he launched an early solo attack and stayed away for the duration to take a commanding win from a 3-rider chase group - with Eilidh Scally (Johnstone Jets Youth Cycling) out-sprinting the boys in that group to take second.

Sarah McCormac (Edinburgh RC) picked up her third win of the series, attacking from the whistle to win by almost a minute from the chase group.

Gregor McNaught (Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO), having missed the previous 2 rounds through injury, was back on the top step in the Youth A Open category. He out-sprinted the bunch after the race had come back together following a solo breakaway from teammate Thomas MacLeod which was eventually chased down by the other riders.

Huge thanks to Ginny and Jon Sharp and everyone at West Lothian Clarion Cycling Club for stepping up and organising this round, and to all of the volunteers from other clubs and the wider Scottish Cycling community who helped the the event - especially the Commissaires and Timing.

And of course to our fantastic series supporters The Cycling Podcast and Stacy Snyder, Functional Pottery.

We’re taking a break in July, but will be back with the final round of racing on Tuesday 18th August - so get your entries in now!

Prime Results from Round 4 last night, along with the latest standings in our Prime Series.

Full race results and overall series standings to follow…

Magnus Ogg (Johnstone Jets Youth Cycling) secured the Youth C Boys Prime Series title with a round to spare, with his third Prime win in a row. The other podium positions are still up for grabs with 3 riders separated by just 2 points.

Gemma Tattersall (Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO) took the Youth C Girls Prime win last night to jump up to third in the overall standings, but Prime wins in the first 3 races of the series mean Isla Sim (Johnstone Jets Youth Cycling) keeps her series lead going into the final round.

Henry Lockett (Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO) made it four Prime wins from four to claim the Youth B Open Prime Series title with a round to spare. Three riders remain in contention for the other two podium spots.

Boo Williams (Clydesdale Colts) has also wrapped up the Youth B Female Prime Series with a round to spare, courtesy of her fourth Prime win in row. It's tight for the other podium places though, with just a point separating second and third.

Gregor McNaught (Falkirk Junior Bike Club SCIO) has put himself right back in contention for the Youth A Open Prime Series, thanks to his win last night that has moved him up to second in the series standings which are still led by Henry Sharp (West Lothian Clarion Cycling Club).

Sarah McCormac (Edinburgh RC) picked up her third Prime to put her within touching distance of the Youth A Female Prime Series title, but Emie Smith (Stirling Bike Club / Wallace Warriors) is just 3 points behind going into the final round in August.

Prime Series points are awarded to the top 5 riders in each category, which will determine overall Prime Series winners at the end of the season.

Where 2 or more riders are tied on prime points at the end of the evening, their position for the Prime Series points is decided by their finishing position in the overall race results.

With thanks to The Cycling Podcast and Stacy Snyder, Functional Pottery for their support of the series.

We're back tonight for Round 4 and our final set of races before the summer break 😎

With two 20 minute crits planned for our Youth A and B riders (weather permitting), how will these shorter races affect the series standings and can our current series leaders hold on to yellow at the end of the evening?

Who will prevail in the primes and which riders will win one of our coveted Buffalo Awards for their summer holidays?

We'll find out from 18.30 tonight at West Lothian Cycle Circuit!

With thanks to our supporters The Cycling Podcastand Stacy Snyder, Functional Pottery.

And finally for Round 3, the celebration of our coveted 'Buffalo Award' winners.

We introduced the 'Buffalo Award' last year in keeping with our aim of encouraging attacking and lively racing in the series, and to celebrate riders' efforts rather than their results - and for the third round in a row it was a huge challenge to pick winners with so many riders putting in exceptional efforts in all of the categories.

Lionel Birnie, who together with Richard Moore and Daniel Friebe founded The Cycling Podcast in 2013, said when the series was launched, “We love the idea of introducing the ‘Buffalo Award’ for the most attacking rider. Richard’s affectionate nickname was the ‘Buffalo’ because his attitude to his work, life and cycling was to just get on with it, do your best, and learn in the hope of being better next time. That’s much like attacking in a bike race – the odds may well be against you but give it your best shot and if you get caught, have another go later in the race, or next time.”

These are the winners of the 'Buffalo Awards' from Tuesday night. Again the reasons for winning varied, and included: bouncing back from a first lap-crash and then trying a number of attacks; showing guts and determination; launching an attack on the prime lap to take the prime points rather than leaving it to a sprint; battling in with the boys and giving them a run for their money; fighting to hold off the bunch; trying countless attacks; and fighting back to the bunch after being dropped several times.

Congratulations to all of our winners 👏

And thanks to Ash Duncan for the photos.

We look forward to more attacking racing in Round 4 on Tuesday 16th June!
