π¦ We don't always get it rightβ¦ and that's okay. π¦
At Watersprites, we know that our swim school won't be for everyone β and that's okay too. β€οΈ
We don't believe every swimming lesson has to look the same, and we don't believe that ticking off a list of swimming skills is the only measure of a successful lesson.
Our lessons are based around learning through play, building confidence and following the child. π₯°
Sometimes we go into a lesson with a plan of everything we'd like to achieve⦠and then the lesson takes a completely different direction!
Maybe we don't get as much swimming done as we'd planned.
Maybe a child needs more time to explore.
Maybe they need reassurance.
Maybe we spend more time playing, practising independence or simply becoming comfortable in the water.
But that doesn't mean they haven't learnt. π
Because confidence, trust and independence are the foundations of learning to swim.
A child who is frightened, lacks confidence or isn't yet comfortable being independent in the water is unlikely to suddenly become a confident swimmer just because we've completed a certain number of lengths or skills.
Sometimes the biggest achievement of the lesson is:
β¨ Putting their face in the water
β¨ Letting go of the wall
β¨ Trying something they were scared of
β¨ Learning to float independently
β¨ Having the confidence to explore
β¨ Getting back in after a difficult moment
β¨ Laughing, playing and enjoying being in the water
These are all steps towards becoming a swimmer. πββοΈ
So no, we won't always get it perfect. We are human, we make mistakes and sometimes a lesson won't go exactly how we'd planned.
But we will always try our hardest to do what's right for the child in front of us π
Because at Watersprites, we're not just teaching swimming.
We're building confidence, independence, resilience and a love of the water β and those are the fundamentals that help children become safe, happy and confident swimmers.
It might not always look like swimmingβ¦ but they're still learning. π₯°
