Who knew a smoke alarm could turn into a leadership lesson?

Last night at 11:30pm, ours woke me up. No smoke. No fire. Just a very determined alarm that refused to stop!

After turning the power off, taking it off the ceiling and finally removing the battery, I eventually got some peace.

Having worked for the fire service, I know exactly why these alarms are designed to be so persistent. They are there to protect us.

It made me reflect on how often we ignore our own warning signs.

We keep going, delivering and looking after everyone else.

Until our own internal alarm is impossible to ignore.

Maybe the real question is: what have you been ignoring that needs your attention?

A morning of leadership reflection.

I joined the Windsor Leadership Alumni webinar today and came away with a lot to think about.

One idea I loved was the comparison of a senior leadership team to an orchestra.

Every person brings something different.

Different skills, experiences and ways of seeing the world.

The challenge for leaders is not to make everyone think the same. It is to create the trust and psychological safety where people can challenge, contribute and work towards the same purpose.

Especially where people are deeply passionate about the work they do, balancing emotion, creativity, governance and decision-making can be difficult.

The strongest leaders I have worked with are those who know their values, trust their people and have the courage to listen to views different from their own.

A lovely reminder that leadership is not a solo performance.

One thing I've noticed when speaking with leaders from different countries

Executive Coaching isn't always viewed in the same way.

Some see it as a powerful investment in leadership growth.

Others still think it's only for when something isn't working.

In my experience, the opposite is often true.

The leaders who gain the most from coaching are usually already performing well.

They're ambitious. They're self-aware.

They're committed to becoming even better.

Executive Coaching provides something many leaders struggle to find:

Time and space to think.

To reflect.

To challenge their own thinking.

To gain perspective.

Because leadership can be a lonely place. Sometimes the most valuable conversations are the ones that help you see things differently.

What's your view of Executive Coaching?

👇 I'd love to hear your thoughts.

A completely unplanned Saturday.

A lie-in until 9.30am, dropping my daughter at the stables, a bit of time at home, lunch in front of the TV and now a quiet moment before collecting my son from the station.

Nothing special. No big plans. No exciting adventures.

Just a day with space in it.

Honestly? I've loved it.

Life can feel busy at times, so it's nice to occasionally have a day where there is nowhere particular to be and nothing pressing to do.

I hope you're all having a lovely weekend too.

As I reflect on this week, I'm grateful for every room I stepped into.

From Luton, Berkhamsted, London, Leighton Buzzard, Cranfield and Hemel Hempstead, I had the privilege of meeting so many interesting people, hearing different perspectives and making some wonderful new connections.

There were conversations about leadership, business, people, growth and possibility. I'm already looking forward to catching up with many of those I met again soon.

One conversation has stayed with me.

It was at an event I almost didn't attend. In fact, I only decided to go on the day.

I met someone who openly shared that they were terrified to be there. They spoke honestly about their wellbeing and the challenges of building a business. In that moment, titles, job roles and networking disappeared. It was simply one human being connecting with another.

I was able to share some resources and offer support.

I won't share any more details because that conversation belongs to them.

What I will say is this: as I drove home, I felt incredibly grateful.

Grateful that I had gone. Grateful that our paths crossed. Grateful that sometimes the greatest impact we have isn't through a keynote, a workshop or a coaching programme.

Sometimes it's through showing up, listening and being of service.

And that's why my word for June remains so important to me:

Impact.

Travelling to the CIPD Festival of Work in London yesterday, I was reading Work magazine when I came across an article asking:

"What's it like to be coached by a bot?"

It's a fascinating question.

As someone who has spent over 25 years in HR and leadership development and now works as an Executive Coach and Mentor, I can see huge opportunities in AI.

It can help people reflect. It can support learning. It can make coaching more accessible.

But coaching is about much more than asking questions.

It's about trust.

It's about connection.

It's about creating a space where people can think, challenge themselves and grow.

What do you think?

Today I'm heading into London for the CIPD Festival of Work.

There's something exciting about stepping away from the day-to-day and immersing yourself in new ideas, different perspectives and meaningful conversations.

I always leave events like this with renewed energy, fresh inspiration and practical insights that I can bring back to my coaching clients.

Looking forward to a great day of learning and connecting with people who are passionate about leadership, people and organisational success.

This week is all about connection, conversation and opportunity.

You'll find me out and about at:

📍 Business Buzz Bedfordshire Buckinghamshire & Cambridgeshire
📍 Resourcing4HR Networking Event, Berkhamsted
📍 CIPD Festival of Work, London
📍 Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce, Leighton Buzzard
📍 CollaborateMK, Cranfield

As a business owner, executive coach and facilitator, some of my best ideas, partnerships and opportunities have come from simply being in the room.

Networking isn't about collecting business cards or making a sales pitch. It's about building genuine relationships, sharing experiences, learning from others and staying connected to what is happening across our region and beyond.

Every conversation has the potential to spark a new idea, challenge your thinking or open a door you didn't even know existed.

If you're attending any of these events, I'd love to say hello. Please come and introduce yourself.

What events are you attending this week?

I've pondered whether to post this for over a week.

As an Arsenal supporter, the Champions League final was difficult to watch.

But the moment that stayed with me wasn't the result.

It was seeing PSG captain Marquinhos immediately go to Gabriel after his penalty miss.

He didn't celebrate first.

He chose compassion first.

Having experienced similar heartbreak himself, he recognised exactly what Gabriel was going through.

It was a reminder that some of the most important leadership moments happen when we put humanity ahead of everything else.

Our own struggles can teach us how to support others through theirs.

A powerful lesson, on and off the pitch.

Pride Month is a time of visibility, celebration and reflection.

I didn't post on the 1st June, not because Pride isn't important to me, but because I don't believe inclusion should only be acknowledged on specific dates in the calendar.

As a coach, I work with people to help them reconnect with who they truly are, find the confidence to show up authentically, and lead in a way that reflects their values. That belief doesn't change depending on the month.

For me, Pride is about more than a flag or a social media post. It's about creating spaces where people feel safe, respected, valued and able to be themselves without fear of judgement.

So this Pride Month, I'll continue doing what I aim to do every day: championing authenticity, celebrating diversity, and supporting people to step into who they are with confidence.

Because everyone deserves to belong. 🌈
