Match Report - Rothwell Reds V Methley Lionesses.D1 πŸ”΄

A Game that has been in the calendar a while and an opportunity for the Reds to further test themselves against on of the strongest teams in the West Riding leagues.

As fate would have it the Reds had 10 girls for this one with sickness, holidays and Kyla on County Duty. A slight reshuffle had Belle dropping into fullback to help the team.
The pre match was about attitude, positivity and mental preparation. Almost nothing on gameplay or tactics.
The Reds had to just believe in their collective team efforts and not let league tables or individual quality of the opposition impact what they did.
Positive attacking play and winning individual battles was the order of the day.

As expected Methley were very good on the ball moving it around quickly and accurately. The Reds defence stayed disciplined and didn't allow themselves to be dragged out of positions.
Methley scored a Great first goal from just inside the box with a powerful shot that Sophia got a hand to but couldn't keep out.

The first test was attitude, would the girls go into their shell or come back fighting. Fortunately it didn't get the Reds down and they carried on battling creating a few good opportunities and Freya in the Methley net making some solid routine saves.

Half time came and I couldn't be happier. Again mindset, positivity and belief.

Soon after the restart Methley continued to have good control adding a second with a good run and finish.
Looking at the girls they were again not phased by the goal and started to push and get a bit of control within the game.
The defence of Belle, April and Ivy fought, passed the ball wide to relive pressure and communicated well.
Sophia in goal had plenty to do but once again showed Great kicking ability.
Millie just bounded on running and closing down. Niah was using her strength and started pushing the girls forward and Sophie and Lexi began skipping down the wings.
India had a Great spell wide and Ava cake back into the game chasing everything.

The hard work paid off with Millie winning the ball and riding a tackle to pass the ball neatly into the bottom corner from just inside the corner of the box. Much to her own surprise!

Methley and Rothwell were having a good go and vicious corners from both sides almost ended in the back of the net, with both keepers getting fine touches to keep the ball out.

The persistence paid off for the Reds with Sophie galloping wide right to send in a low hard cross with Ava where she always is, inside the box to finish from close range.

The score was not the focus, we are trying to find our true level in grassroots football and what we can work on to be better as a collective and individuals.

I can't be more proud of the attitude, work rate and teamwork from this fantastic set of Girls.

Thank You to Methley for the opportunity to host the LEW derby. What a cracking set of girls they have and some vital lessons learned from playing a team of that quality.

πŸ†Opposition player went to Sophia. Very good today with a string of good saves and solid handling and distribution. A much more confident and improved goalkeeper, and her goalkeeping coach is ........Gav from Methley ❀️
πŸ† Niah collected coach's player for her leadership as captain and continuous positive play driving the girls on, keeping the positive vibes on field with a solid all round midfield performance

Reds, This season you have all been truly remarkable. West End from Div 2 Next Saturday then a final league game against Battyeford.
17games not out for the Reds. πŸ’ͺ

A Midweek test for the Reds against a very strong Gildersome team.

The girls are always up for a challenge and won't shy away from playing strong teams with this the first of three games against D2 & D1 sides.

A quiet start for the Reds after some Great passing from Gildersome and the confidence in their defence passing the ball across the line and switching play was a joy to watch.
A few early Rothwell attacks were dealt with by the Gildersome defenders. The Reds defence stood very firm with the new back three formation working well against the wing play of Gildersome. The full backs of April and Lucy looked very comfortable with Anna covering perfectly from CB.
Ivy was her usual solid, industrious self when she came into the game.

It was easy for the Reds to drop deep but Niah showed Great intelligence to realise this and push herself forward as more of a 10 and drive the team forward to stop us getting pinned back.
Kyla was like a knight in battle and showed tremendous strength holding off girls much bigger than her throughout the game.
Millies engine was once again finely tuned and covered every blade of grass twice breaking up play.
Lexi created some good chances and kept plugging away along with Belle and Sophie in attacking positions.

As the game went on the Reds confidence grew with Kyla getting her chance and goal with a very tidy run and finish.

Sophia started to be needed more in net with some good calls, catches and her goal kicks were finding wingers on the half way line to set us up in attack.
Sophia's kicking game helped the Reds keep the pressure with the ball in hand sending her kicks into the opposition half and the big and unpredictable bounces on a hard pitch favoured the attackers.

Millie and Niah were driving with the ball and Belle had found her aim with some Great through balls for Kyla to chase.

Gildersome pushed more and more and got a goal from the edge of the box with a player stealing the ball in between two Reds defenders and the ball dropped in the bottom corner.

After a brief rest Lexi came back into the game and made a front two alongside Kyla. πŸ”₯The girls dribbled, passed, attacked and were relentless until Lexi made herself the space and finished into the corner from just inside the box.

A perfect test for the Reds and they handled it superbly! πŸ‘

Coach's Player πŸ† - Lexi, a real confidence player that didn't give up and her quality shone through. Always trying to assist her teammates, making Good decisions, fizzing corner kicks and a lovely goal to top it off.

Opposition Player πŸ† Sophia, another Good display of kicking and solid handling.
Communication is coming on, a bit blindsided by the goal but made a couple of routine but important saves at the right times in the game.

Amazing effort from the girls again. They really benefitted from the test and the fast pin point passing of Gildersome gave us something to think about.

Onto Methley at the weekend. Lets go πŸ”΄

Game Report. The one we have been waiting for.....
The visit of Calverley to LS26. The biggest test in Division 3 for a game between two teams that throw everything into the game with positive attacking football.

This one didn't disappoint from the first to final whistle with some absolute bangers it had everything.

A slightly different format for todays report. The game was that end to end with so much going on I can't logically remember everything that happened

We started with a free kick on the edge of the box from Calverley smashed home which was just too high for Sophia to keep out.

Kyla came focussed and desperate to add to her seasons tally, continuing her fine form up front again today with three goals worthy of match of the day analysis with 2 from tight angles busting the net and a trademark dribble and finish.

Niah's relentless running and following up earned her a neat finish from inside the box.

Lexi once again turned on the skills and showed her qualities with the ball at her feet finishing well once again.

The real showstopper came from the restart after Calverley had just hit a 20 yard banger high into the corner of the net.
Lexi got on the ball played the ball from inside our own half towards the corner flag for Niah to collect the ball and fire a ball into the box. Along came India out of nowhere with an emphatic first time finish into the corner WOW πŸ”₯

Sophia 🧀Very annoyed to have been beaten high from a free kick, recovered to show some fantastic long kicks out of hand and some accurate goal kicks. Her best moment came in the second half when she came out and threw herself at the attackers feet for a Great double save

Lucy - As we have come to expect, every week the same commited, reliable hard working approach winning the ball and calmly playing it out.

April - πŸ†Coach's Player today for a composed and effective performance with some neat interceptions, good reading of the game and rocket throws πŸš€

Anna - Solid with some Big tackles breaking up play & a Great turn of pace to provide vital cover at CB

Ivy - Positionally intelligent, Great covering, tracking and a bunch of well timed tackles.

Belle - like prime Pirlo once again (for those old enough) showing her Great range of passing put the team on the front foot on multiple occasions

Millie - The engine that never stops, her work ethic and selfless play allows the attackers to flourish saving the Reds on countless occasions

Lexi - Every week she shows more and more her unreal skill level as her confidence builds. Unselfish play with a big effort to work back and help out.

Niah - Strength and power driving with purpose, winning the ball and turning defence into attack.

Sophie - Galloping with the ball and fizzing balls into the box. Worked hard in the middle of the pitch to keep control of the game.

India - πŸ† Opposition Player. Picking up plenty of goals right now with her hard work and alway knows where to be in the box. Great reactions and a brilliant goal

Kyla - Another Hat-trick, full box of skills on show with a fantastic workrate and some absolute bullet finishes.

Exactly how Grassroots should be, positive, attacking football from two teams played in a fair and friendly spirit.

Amazing πŸ‘β€οΈπŸ”΄

An interesting week for the Reds with a trip to Division 2 Gildersome on Tuesday and a Massive test against Division 1 side Methley on Saturday before travelling to Division 2 side West End. We then finish the season with our final game at home to Battyeford Reds

Sun 🌞Smiles 😊 and a Waterbreak πŸ’¦ at LS26.

This weekend the Reds mixed things up. After an amazing season we are hoping to push for a place in Division 2 next season.
Whilst we will never change our attacking, flowing style of football we have to accept we need another option and tested a back three for the majority of the game today against Ovenden.
Our extensive scouting network told us Ovenden play a similar system to us so a Great test for the Reds to try something a little different.
We were proven right as Ovenden lined up with a very wide and attacking formation.

The defensive unit of Ivy, April and Anna were faultless in the opening 20minutes which saw Ivy slotted back in at right back showing Great control, tracking and passing.
Anna covered the back line with pace and power, cleaning up whenever needed with a commanding performance. April showed more of her much developed composure and accurate passing.
The engine room was ticking over nicely with Millie breaking up play and switching play. Niah became the driving force recycling the ball and putting the reds on the attack.
A starting front three of Sophie, Lexi and Kyla jinked, turned and drove forward at every opportunity.

In true Reds fashion the girls came out of the blocks fast with Kyla getting on the scoresheet in the first couple of minutes after some brilliant individual closing down.
The game then became almost end to end with some impressive passes, touches and movement from Ovenden.
Lexi and Sophie continued to cause havoc on the wings with flashes of individual skill and unselfish wing play.
More individual hard work from Kyla paid off with another smart finish.
After a restless start on the sidelines Ava came into the game and pushed back the defensive line of Ovenden and soon her pace took her clear of the defenders for her to finish neatly with a 1-1 with the goalkeeper.
Lucy and Belle came into the game. Both girls effortlessly transitioned into the game with Lucy winning the ball in what seemed like every tackle and working hard in defence. Belle who has hit Great form in recent weeks got hold of the ball and gave another passing masterclass finding gaps in the Ovenden defence 🏹

Kyla completed her hatrick with a Great individual effort and could have had more but was trying to play her teammates in to get a goal. Ava's pace was causing issues and breaking through again gave her the option to finish well from another 1v1.

India ran well and created opportunites wide. Sophia made a fine save with her face/head to get the ball over the bar from a corner.

A couple of pieces of individual brilliance followed, the first from one of Ovenden's two county players on show collecting the ball 30 yards out going on a run through two Rothwell players and finding the corner of the net with a cheeky stepover in there.
The best goal of the day came from Lexi, once again collecting the ball in her own half, gliding past a few players wide with a neat foot roll and change of pace to then cut inside and finish in the far corner for a Brilliant solo goal πŸ”₯

Opposition Player πŸ†Kyla- Unplayable at times this kid, playing in a more central role using the extra space then being a menace wide right. Once again getting the team off to a Great start then unselfish play to help her team. πŸ‘

Coach's Player πŸ† Anna - Slotted into the back three very comfortably and her pace and power saved the Reds on a couple of occasions when the attackers broke through the lines. πŸ‘

Onto the Next. Calverley at home πŸ’›

Match Report V Featherstone.

After a few early morning technical difficulties πŸ”and the pitch was finally set up the Reds were ready to get on with it on a fine spring morning β˜€οΈ

As we are moving towards match days being player led, all the girls had an input in creating the warm up with Kyla and Niah running the smaller breakout warm ups. Well Done πŸ‘

The Reds were certainly up for it this morning with the girls pushing forward from the first whistle.
Sophie was enjoying her morning gallop on the right wing with Lexi looking equally dangerous on the left.
Millie just sat and figured out the pace of play making tackles and keeping the ball moving from deep.
Niah was looking to get the girls on the front foot where possible with strong driving runs with the ball.
Belle was trying to unlock the defence with some very clever short passes and through balls.
The defensive partnership of Ivy and Lucy were very composed with the ball and looked to turn defence into attack whenever possible.

Kyla was playing in a more central role today and enjoyed the freedom of collecting the ball in a number of different positions and her dribbling, pace and determination served her well to get her four goals today.
India came into the game and has recently found a scent for goal being in the right place at the right time to finish well from close range twice.
Lexi was relentless today and got a well deserved goal after a lot of unselfish work.
Ivy managed to pick up a loose ball on the half volley and gave the keeper no chance from 30 yards with a fierce looping shot.
Sophie got her trademark screamer from just outside the box with the help of the crossbar.

A very accomplished attacking display with everyone playing their part. Sophia did what she needed to showing safe handling and good distribution. April was solid and looked to set Lexi away when she came into the game.

🌟A lot of credit has to go to Featherstone for the attitude and spirit they showed throughout the game. They kept going to the final whistle and the goalkeeper pulled off a handful of amazing saves. Everyone shook hands at the end in a very well spirited game which is always Great to see.

Coach's Player πŸ† Kyla - Amazing Goals and workrate that kept us on the front foot throughout the game. Great work trying to play her teammates in as the game went on.
She Apologised to Lexi at half time after having to tap in one of her shots that just couldn't find its way over the line.

Opposition Player πŸ† Lexi - Ran herself into the ground today with a Great display of dribbling, some fierce corner kicks and showed Great teamwork working back to help defend.

A lovely morning in the sun for the Reds. It's a shame we are starting to run out of games as it's an absolute pleasure watching the girls on a Saturday morning.

Ovenden at home next Saturday 9:30 kick Off πŸ’ͺβš½οΈπŸ”΄

Game Report V Battyeford Reds

The Reds met the Reds of Battyeford this Saturday.
The girls started Very well with a change to a forward 4 of Kyla and Ava leading the line supported by Sophie and Lexi high on the wings.
A bit of adjustment was needed as the high line of Battyeford caught the girls out multiple times with the offside trap for the opening 10minutes 🚩
Once the forwards sorted the timing of their runs out then the Reds hit their stride.
Very tidy work from Ivy at the back linking with both Millie and Sophie passing in triangles and moving the ball fast.
Sophie and Kyla were linking multiple times overlapping each other and firing balls into the box.
Then Niah and Lexi started to combine down the left and the Reds were switching play in an attacking display worthy of a sky sports slot. πŸ“Ί
Millie sat in the middle and controlled the game, winning balls and showing her much improved passing range.
Niah drove, tackled and forced the Reds forward with Belle a very composed figure in defence breaking up play and findinf a teammate with every pass.
Ava was attacking the box at every opportunity and picked up two well taken goals inside the six yards box in quick succession after some fantastic teamwork and unselfish work from Kyla.

Lexi then sparked to life with a mazey run down the wing cutting in and finishing in the corner. As if that wasn't impressive her next was even better.
Sophia collected the ball in the box and sent a high kick over halfway that Lexi controlled and with only one thing on her mind went past a few players and this time finished into the top Corner 🎯

Kyla was desperate to get on the scoresheet and after working hard to break through she got her goal collecting the ball wide and cutting in beating a couple of players and hitting the corner of the net for a fine solo effort.
Lucy came into defence and brought her usual battling spirit.

πŸ†Coach's Player - Lexi. Relentless in attack with the ball on a string today. 2 fine goals and countless fizzed corners and crosses.

πŸ† Opposition Player - Kyla. Ran and ran at the defence but made a real effort to
play in team mates and a Great solo goal.

That is 100 Goals up for the Reds this season. Every outfield player having contributed. Lovely to see such positive attacking play
πŸ‘Œβš½οΈ

Onto the next, Featherstone at home next week.

Game Report V Pontefract.

Firstly, Great job from Pontefract securing a 3G venue to be able to get the game on for the girls.

As usual when these two teams meet we were treated to a very competitive, fair and
well spirited match.

The girls have been working on intensity, moving the ball around the pitch and getting the ball in the box from different angles and this was evident in the way they played.

Sophia πŸ§€πŸ¦‹After the recent bombshell of not wanting to continue as a goalkeeper she put on an excellent display of shot stopping, flying around her goal showing excellent communication and commanded her box with confidence and authority
Ivy - πŸͺ¨ The Rock again, Ivy has gained confidence in recent weeks and has shown a real development in football intellegence covering and playing the ball out from the back. Another goal today from her stalking position at corners well taken in the bottom corner ⚽️
April - 😎 April just get cooler with her no fuss and composed defending style using her rocket of a throw to get us on the attack
Lucy - 🐾 Played like a terrier, snapping into every tackle giving no time on the ball for the other team.
Niah - ✨ Shines with her performances as the ultimate all rounder showing a great passing range, running with the ball and making countless tackles.
Millie - πŸš’ The engine of the team putting out the fires all over the pitch with her non stop running and countless tackles.
Belle- πŸ’… Another polished performance, no fuss just gets on the ball and moves it effortlessly around the pitch
Sophie - πŸ“ˆ on such a positive upward trend right now showing more and more confidence every game and her real quality coming through.
Ava - 🏎️ Pace, Pace and more Pace. Following up every lose ball and trying break the back line with a great work ethic. She was on the spot to grab her goal today ⚽️
Lexi - πŸͺ„The magician and architect. The ball looks like it is on a string when she plays and glides down the wing with her tradmark cut in and strike. Unlucky not to score with a fierce free kick but followed up well for her goal. ⚽️
Kyla - πŸ₯ΆπŸ”₯ Plays with a fire and passion but her finishing is ice cold. A well earned Hatrick trick today showing pace, power and amazing skills. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

This team is simply briliiant and the spirit and way they play the game is a joy to be a part ofπŸ’ͺ❀️
Well Done Reds.

30/12/2025

The Reds will start 2026 as they finished 2025 in Division 3.

After a fantastic first half of the season scoring an impressive 51 goals and conceding just 8 in Division 3 the girls remain in what looks to be a very competitive division for the second half of the season.

We open 2026 with a home game against Calverley followed with another home game against Greetland. The Reds then travel to local neighbours Pontefract for the first meeting this season for what always throws up a good contest.
As it stands there is no game on the 31st Jan so we will look to arrange something that week.

Looking forward to seeing this group of Legends attack the 2nd half of the season with the same attitude and spirit they did in the first half.

Lets Go πŸ”΄βš½οΈ
