⚽️ ROTHWELL JUNIORS MATCH REPORT ⚽️
Today we faced an unbeaten Altofts side as always when these two teams meet, it was a competitive and feisty game.
We probably started as the second best team, but we managed to take an early 1–0 lead. Altofts soon equalised following a defensive mistake but the reaction from the boys was excellent. We took control of the game, played some really good football and raced into a 4–1 lead, which was fully deserved.
Unfortunately, just before half-time we had a player sent off, a decision we felt was harsh but we accepted it, got on with the game and went into the break 4–1 ahead.
The sending-off meant we had to change our shape for the second half, unfortunately, the changes didn’t work as well as we would have liked. Altofts came out strongly and managed to get themselves back level midway through the half. From our point of view, the goals came from situations where we know we can defend better. As a team, we didn’t quite do the basics well enough defensively that is something we can learn from.
We were then reduced to nine players following a second sending off. Again, we felt the decision was harsh the boys once again accepted it and showed fantastic character.
Playing around 20 minutes with nine men, every player on the pitch dug deep, worked for each other and gave absolutely everything — exactly what these boys always do.
We’ll take the positives, learn from the things we can improve, regroup and go again next Sunday. ⚽💪
