Junior match reports

Altofts U11s away @ East Ardsley - Monday 15th June

Unfortunately, before the game, Freddie was in A&E, so last-minute recruit Jack came into the team.

Captain Jacob lost the toss, and East Ardsley put us in to bat first.

The first pair were Jack and Vinny. Jack scored 8 runs and hit a good boundary, while Vinny lost his wicket but played some good shots and ran well between the wickets.

The next pair were Kian and Jacob. Kian scored 3 runs, showing some good defensive blocks and running singles well. Jacob scored 6 runs, including a boundary.

William P scored 4 runs and communicated well with his partner, Jude, who also batted well.

Last up were Ronnie and George. Ronnie scored 6 runs. Although he lost his wicket, he did well to get back into positive numbers. George was the top scorer with 12 runs, hitting a boundary and taking some very good singles.

Finally, Albie came in and finished the innings with some good defensive shots and well-run singles.
As a team, we ran really well between the wickets, picking up lots of singles, which helped our score significantly.

With the ball, Jack, Jude and George each took 2 wickets. William P, Kian and Ronnie took 1 wicket each. There was also a good run-out involving George and Jude took an excellent catch off his own bowling.

We gave away a few extras through some unnecessary wides, but overall it was an excellent performance. There was some very good fielding from everyone, and Albie and Vinny made some important stops to prevent extra runs.

This result puts us 2nd in the league.

U15s away @ Morley - Monday 15th June

After arriving after a battle down the M62, the boys were tasked with an improvement to their batting, especially the running between the wickets.

Henry won the toss and chose to bat first on a very good looking wicket and best use of the fading evening light.

A slight change to the batting order saw Scott promoted to opening and along with Henry they got us off to a flyer, the ball disappearing to the boundary often against what I believe to be the best bowling attack we have faced so far. Henry was the first to fall from a good delivery that just clipped the top of off stump. Will Gantham joined Scott at the crease and the flow of runs was not altered by the fall of the previous wicket with both batters going on the counter attack. Will was the next wicket to fall leaving the score on 40-2. The Morley boys re-grouped and fought back well, stemming the run flow and picking up wickets more regular picking up Jack O'Malley and Jayden Darbyshire with the score on 49-4. Scott carried on with his attacking batting before falling for 28 and a good little partnership with Will Upton. With Morley now targeting in on cleaning up, and claiming the wickets of Will, Zyler and Dexter, the last pair of Harley and Billy stood tall, adding valuable runs and much more positively seeing out the full 20 overs. Altofts finished on a much improved 97-9.

After a quick turn around we took to the field, Jayden taking the new ball was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 over 2-15. Unfortunately the rest of the innings was blown away from us by some very good and very aggressive batting from the Morley number 2 and number 3 both with strike rates above 150 and the score was chased down in the 11th over.

Credit to both teams as the game was played in great spirits.

U13s @ home to West Bretton - Wednesday 17th June

Following a hat-trick of league wins, we welcomed an in-form West Bretton to the club, hoping to make it four victories on the bounce.

Our captain, Billy Bryant, finally won the toss and stuck to our plan, putting the visitors in to bat in the hopes of restricting them to a chasable total.

Jayden Darbyshire and Seth Camm opened the bowling. Despite a tidy spell from Jayden, West Bretton got off to a strong start. One opener retired unbeaten on 27 before Noah Jenkinson claimed the other thanks to a sharp low catch from Luke Rigby, making it 52-1.

Harley Roebuck entered the attack, dismissing the next batter after a good catch from Noah Stogden to make it 72-2. Some really tight bowling from our youngsters, Viv Meisuria and Zak Jordan, saw both take a wicket each, reducing West Bretton to 101-4. Our two senior players, Will Upton and Noah Stogden, bowled the final four overs, with Will picking up the last wicket as the visitors closed on 110-5.

We returned to our usual opening pair of Jayden and Noah S. A slow start saw us on just 11 runs after the first four overs, thanks to some excellent opening bowling from Bretton. However, Jayden then went on the attack, smashing four consecutive fours to lift the run rate.

Noah S was out for 7, making it 35-1, before Jayden retired unbeaten on 25 after another excellent knock. This brought Dexter Robinson and Will to the crease. However, Will wasnโ€™t able to repeat last weekโ€™s heroics leaving for a first ball duck and 38-2.

Harley was in next and rotated the strike well with Dexter, before the latter was caught for 7, leaving us 56-3. Skipper Billy joined Harley and they ran brilliantly, punishing the bad balls, before Harley was dismissed for a well-constructed 22.

A 34-run partnership brought us to within touching distance of victory at 90-4. However, that soon became 92-5 when Billy went for one shot too many, departing for a well-worked 14. With Altofts still needing 14 from three overs, the match was finely poised.

Luke and Seth were tasked with seeing us home. They kept the scoreboard ticking, and Luke struck two lovely fours before a disastrous run-out saw Seth depart, leaving us 104-6. Noah J joined Luke with 7 needed off the final two overs. Just as victory looked certain, Coach Craig gave Luke out LBW, leaving us 106-7.

Young Viv strode to the middle and managed two valuable singles from his first two balls, leaving us needing just three runs from the last five deliveries. With nerves jangling and the crowd on edge, Noah J missed the next three balls. Just as it seemed victory was slipping away, Noah J pulled out a leg-side hoick and sent the ball to the boundary for a dramatic win and rapturous celebrations. 112-7, victory secured with just one ball to spare.

An excellent all-round performance from the boys, who followed their coaches' pre-match instructions to stay in the game once the Bretton openers had gone. We bowled tightly to restrict the visitors to 110, with six bowlers each going for fewer than four runs an over and the wickets well shared. Special mention to Viv and Zak, who came on at a difficult time and bowled superbly under pressure.

Jayden and Noah S gave us a solid foundation for the chase, with Jayden retiring unbeaten once again. Excellent support came from the rest, particularly Harley, Billy and Luke, all of whom rotated the strike well. Despite a nervy finish, it was brilliant to see a smiling Noah J smash the winning boundary.

Commiserations to West Bretton, who played their part in an excellent game in front of a huge crowd. It was a fantastic advert for the game of cricket. Our victory against a well-established side was particularly sweet, showing how far we have come and making it four wins in a row to cement our fourth place in the table. Another tough fixture awaits next week as we welcome Wrenthorpe.

U11s Away @ Wakefield St Michael's - Thursday 18th June

Captain Alex lost the toss, and they sent us out to field first.

There were some good opening overs from Freddie and William P, which put them under pressure. However, when their stronger batters got going, they were very good. Wickets came from Freddie (2), Lucas, and Alex R. There were also some good overs from William S and Alex K.

It was a tough day in the office for George and Hudson, but they both tried hard and contributed with some good fielding.

The first batting pair were Hudson (9) and Alex R (7), who both batted well, picking up runs and protecting their wickets. Next came Alex K (11) and Lucas (5). This was their best batting performance of the year so far, with both showing good running between the wickets and some excellent work with the bat.
William P scored 4 and tried hard but never really got going. George also had a difficult day and lost his wickets, but he will come back stronger.
Ben
The final pair were Freddie, who top-scored with 13, and William S with 9. The coach told them to go out swinging, which they certainly did. They deserved more runs as they hit the ball to the boundary on several occasions. There were some big hits from both Freddie and William, and they gave it a really good go.

A special shout-out goes to William Perry, who never stopped fielding. He threw himself at the ball all game and saved four boundaries with some outstanding effort.

Overall, a good effort from the team with plenty of positives to take into the next game.

Altofts Angels v Morley Ladies 14/6/26

The Angels were back down the Lane on Sunday, fresh from a nice friendly win against Ackworth Ladies in midweek.

Having won a tight festival game the previous Sunday against a fancied Morley Cougars side, confidence was high as we welcomed the Maroons to Altofts.

Losing the toss, the Morley captain opted to field first. And it was โ€˜Calamityโ€™ Jackie Carter (sponsored by Ali Carter Temple Spa Consultant) who strode out to the crease with Emma Hannaford (sponsored by The Yorkshire Broker) and proceeded to whack the first ball for four. Both girls ran brilliantly between the wickets until they didnโ€™t!

Carter hit the Morley captain straight back to her for what should have been a fairly straightforward catch, however the bowler dropped the ball but Carter (generous as ever) gave her another opportunity to amend for the drop, by setting off for what was never a run and was subsequently run out by a country mile. Carter made amends with another boundary and with no more wickets it was a good start with 16 runs.

Sophie Scaife (sponsored by Yates Drywall Ltd) and Amy Prudhoe (sponsored by Freshlook valeting & detailing) came in as the second pair and were on the ball throughout their innings, stealing singles at every opportunity against some impressive bowling especially from the Morley youngsters. Scaife pummelled a couple of fours and the girls came off adding 32 runs to the total.

Next up was (Sonic) Kelly Goodwin (sponsored by GSL Education), like a live version of Road Runner, batting with Vicky Dunnill (sponsored by John Dunnill Landscapes), again great running between the wickets, picking off the odd boundary and adding another 28 runs.

Rounding off the innings was Stacie Potter (sponsored by KDL renovation ) and Joanne Walsh (sponsored by Maslen Tailormade Travel), who went out giving themselves a brief of โ€˜nothing silly girlsโ€™ to themselves, before doing something silly and running themselves out. Potter gave an easy catch to another delivery before regaining some momentum with a boundary in the last over.

287 posted, a competitive total, but work to be done.

On to the bowling. Now if you have been watching our ladies play, you will have noticed that they fall over a lot, sometimes for no reason whatsoever. They get injured more than most, and they smash heads together you would think, for fun. After three overs of power hitting by the Morley openers โ€˜Calamityโ€™ Jackie Carter and โ€˜Dangerousโ€™ Vicky Dunnill went to save a certain four together, both shouting mine and both ending up on the deck after a cranium smashing exercise.

Vicky, if you know her, is dizzy at the best of times, but this sent her dizziness up a notch as small birds started dancing around her head and a lovely purple shiner started to appear. With the concussion protocols in place, Vicky was instructed to retire hurt after being unable to repeat the alphabet backwards. Up stepped Julie โ€˜Joolsโ€™ Bush (sponsored by Masterclass Education Yorkshire), sporting her โ€˜I only came to have a drinkโ€™ clothes and replaced Dunnill.

Walsh got her first wicket, well needed as well, with a fine catch at the second attempt by Prudhoe. Emma Hannaford then bowled her first career victim, with a pitched up delivery before a flurry of wickets ensured the momentum was back with the Angels.

First Walsh caught off Prudoeโ€™s bowling, and the next ball Potter ran out the stranded Morley batter. Scaife then bowled a tight over, followed by Walsh, who bowled The Angels first maiden over in a League match. Jools then got in on the act as she too ran out a stranded Morley batter. Two overs later, Carter took a great catch off her own bowling.

Walsh was thrown the ball for the final over, and got her second with a clean bowled, before Walsh finished it off with a skier that Goodwin seemed to catch with her elbows!

8 wickets down, could have been more but what a result against 3rd in the league.

Player of the match and the Mars bar winner โ€“ Kelly Goodwin.

29 run win, 1 bust thumb โ€“ Scaife, 1 swollen eye โ€“ Dunnill, 1 bad back โ€“ Goodwin, 1 swollen ankle โ€“ Walsh, 1 bruised back of head โ€“ Carter. We should have taken up rugby ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks to sandwich makers Phil Dyson and Kathryn Webb (sponsored by NUYOU Hair and Beauty) umpire Ben and all the supporters.

Altofts are slowly moving up the tableโ€ฆโ€ฆ. if they can just keep out of trouble!

Next up Colton away.

14/06/2026

Altofts CC hosted Buttershaw St Pauls Cricket Club looking to continue their winning run.

In windy conditions, captain Jordan Carter (sponsored by Marshall Electrical ) lost the toss and was invited to bat first.

Things got off to a bad start as Andrew Wood (sponsored by Rethink Food) was out LBW to just the 2nd ball of the match.

Saif Tahir (sponsored by Dewsbury Dental Centre) looked to fight back at the other end, with a couple of crunching boundaries and a six over midwicket before he too was out LBW for 14, the score a perilous 21/2.

Shams Dost (sponsored by Adilco Accountants) and Dean Van Onselen (sponsored by Stacey Haughey Mortgage & Protection Adviser) looked to repair the innings with an excellent 66 run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Dean was playing some terrific shots and was looking set for a big score, before he inside edged onto his stumps for a run a ball 36.

Shams was accumulating runs in sensible fashion and an excellent 4th wicket partnership followed with no5 Luke Whitmore (sponsored by John Whitmore Electrical Contractor). The pair ran between the wickets well, putting the opposition under pressure. The pair both brought up terrific half centuries before Luke was bowled for a well made 51 from 64 balls, the partnership ending just 3 runs shy of a 100.

With the score 184/4 the platform was set and Ben Walsh (sponsored by Digital Image Lounge) hit the ball hard from ball 1 and the scoreboard rattled round. Shams brought up a terrific century before eventually succumbing for 121 from 126 balls with 16 boundaries. Ben brought up his half century in quick time, as the home side took the score past 300, with Ben eventually being dismissed for a brilliant 72 off 54 balls. An all run 4 from Josh Morris (sponsored by Rexel UK) and Craig Wood (sponsored by DT Installations) finished the innings with Altofts posting a daunting 322/6.

Altofts knew they couldn't take the game lightly in spite of their imposing total. The BSP openers went hard early, taking 40 from the first 4 overs, but the Altofts bowlers kept their heads as the wickets began to fall. The introduction of in-form Shams proved key as he removed the BSP opener.

Altofts slowly tightened their grip on the game as wickets fell at regular intervals, Shams eventually taking 5/31 to leave the man of the match award in no doubt!

Buttershaw we're eventually dismissed for 172 with Saif Tahir taking 3/27 and Olly Box (sponsored by Tiny Hands Baby Bank Yorkshire)(1/22) and Craig Wood (1/69) taking a wicket a piece.

A maximum point win for Altofts to continue their good form and a very convincing performance too.

๐Ÿ

Our new 2nd team captain Craig Bryant (sponsored by Tech Clad Ltd) took his battle weary troops to East Leeds in a bid to turn recent form around.

Having won the toss, Craig elected to bat in an attempt to reverse our batting struggles. Going back to basics, Steven Rigby (sponsored by Rigby joinery) returned to opening with our very own traveller, Joe Plater (sponsored by Sophie Carter Hair ), who was in for his first game of the season.

Both settled well, before Joe was bowled for 8 to make it 23-1. Liam Webb (sponsored by Maslen Tailormade Travel) came to the crease, but was dismissed for a 2nd ball duck and everyone fearing the worst. Adam Perry (sponsored by Boilers2go) joined Steve, and both started to bat themselves into form. Despite a few hairy run out attemps, they both made friends and after a mid-wicket hug, kicked on. Steve was finally dismissed for a well worked 43 after one shot too many to make it 71-3.

David Didz Illingworth (sponsored by Epic travel ) joined Pez at the crease and both went on the attack. A partnership of 71 followed before Pez fell 2 short of his half century. A well constructed 48 from Pez including 8 fours. Nehal Rana (sponsored by KPM Fire) was next in at 6. David continued to attack, smashing 3 sixes and 7 fours to bring up an excellent 50. Unfortunately, he fell shortly after for 51, after chopping onto his own stumps to make it 159-5.

Joe Ellam was next in at 7. A short partnership followed before Nehal was adjudged to have knicked one behind or could have been LBW...we still don't know. 173-6.

Joe managed a couple of boundaries before falling for 10, 177-7. Craig Bryant joined Sam Naylor (sponsored by Azo Ltd) at the crease. However, after smashing the first ball through covers for 4, he fell to the next ball after knicking off to slips. Conor Andrews (sponsored by Vivedia Ltd) did the same, to leave without scoring and 184-9. Sam seeing Antony Hill (sponsored by Harvey's Pet Sitting Services) come out to bat went on the attack and smashed 2 fours, before Tony left first ball again, closing our innings on 192.

Sam left frustrated and unbeaten on 11 after the usual Altofts collapse. Luckily, this time it was the lower orders turn and we would have taken 192 after recent struggles.

Connor Andrews and Craig Bryant opened the bowling and our hosts went on their usual attack. A dubious stumping decision went against us, before the skipper got us on the board after a smart catch behind from Antony Hill to make it 25-1.

Connor was smashed out of the park a couple of times, so Adam Perry came on to try and stem the flow. However, the runs continued and desperate measures were needed. To the amazement of a few, the skipper suddenly threw the ball to ex-1st team stumper Liam. After sulking on the boundary after his duck, he was given the task of winning the game and did he deliver?

There was immediate success as Liam bowled the opener in his 1st over to make it 66-2. A few hefty blows followed before Adam Perry got the next East Leeds' batter, after he holed out to Steve Rigby for 95-3. That soon became 97-4 when Pez took the next, after an easy catch from Joe Plater.

That soon became 97-5 when Liam dismissed the dangerous Dost LBW. Liam then got his 3rd wicket after another LBW to leave our hosts reeling on 99-6. Adam Perry also got his 3rd wicket next up, after a stumping from Antony Hill for 100-7. That soon became 4 wickets after another LBW to make it 108-8.

With the top and middle order out of the way, the skip threw the ball to opener Conor Andrews to bring us home, and he did just that. The ninth followed after another LBW and he wrapped the innings up bowling the last man to dismiss East Leeds for 116. Adam Perry (4-22) and Liam Webb (3-26) the pick of the bowlers.

A great all-round effort from the team in Craig's first game as skipper. The top order stuck to their tasks well whilst Liam and Adam took the pace off the ball to seal the victory. An 18 point win with lots of positives to build on, as we welcome Sandal next week.
