It was a weekend double!

The 1st team were away at Stainborough, losing the toss they were asked to bat first.
Which seemed like to be the right choice for Stainborough as Rothwell were soon 52-4 then 67-5. However the returning Bobby Roberts continued his fine form of 2 weeks ago putting on a 78 run partnership with Luke Wade. Bobby eventually fell for 56 while Luke supported the tail before falling for 28 as Rothwell were all out for 185.
In response wickets were hard to come by as Stainborough put 100 on the board for only 2 wickets, ledger picked 1 up & Liam Kelly picking up his final wicket for Rothwell before his move back to the Midlands. Waqar then came onto bowl and Ledger & Waqar complimented each other with their bowling. ledger picking up the key wickets as soon Stainborough were 108-4. Persistent pressure and wickets came as Ledger found himself with 5 wickets for 72. While Waqar pace & swing mopped up the tail with 3 wickets as Stainborough were eventually out for 155 as Rothwell won by 30 runs.

Player of the match goes to David Ledger for his key wickets and vital breakthrough on his way to claiming a five for .
David is sponsored by Gardeners Arms

While the 2nds were at home against Nostell St Oswalds, Gaz won the toss and elected to bat. Losing Olly early, a 50 run partnership was put on between Jennings and Gaz Newton as brad was dismissed for 19, Gaz & Ian Newton then brought up 100 on the board and a 50 for Gaz before a mix up and run out was found with both batsmen at one end. Ian then went onto to make 33 before being Bowled as Rothwell were 126-5. Jeffery then went on to make 24 & Shah 14 as Rothwell were all out for 174.
In response Sadeepa found key wicket of Longdon with Ian taking a sharp catch at Gully as Nostell found themselves for 19-3. However mid order resistance found Nostell 92-4 at Drinks. Shah then came onto bowl uphill replacing economical Ellis as he found wicket with his 2nd ball. Alex Newton then bowling down hill with shah found consistent rhythm as Alex picked up 2 wickets while Nostell struggled against the swing of Shah. With Shah claiming 4 wickets for 21 off 8 overs, as Nostell were eventually bowled out for 141 as Rothwell won by 33 runs.

Weekend Results!

The 1st made the journey over to North Leeds to play St Chads. Batting first Rothwell soon found themselves 4-33, Luke Wade putting up a resistance to the st chads bowlers, but found himself losing partners at other end on a regular basis, only McMaster 16 & Heseltine 15 made it to double figures while Wade finished 33 Not Out as Rothwell were all out for 117.
In response Rothwell made St Chads work for their runs as it took them 35 overs to knock them off, with Kelly & Iqbal both with 3 wickets apiece as St Chads won by 4 wickets

Player of the match goes to Luke Wade

While the 2nds at Royds Lane made it 6 wins in 8 games as they beet local rivals Allerton Bywater by 22 runs. Ian Newton was the star batter making 82 runs. Batting first Rothwell were 61-5 it was not easy going, ex Rothwell Opening Bowler Phil Wood took 4 wickets for 17 runs off his 10 overs. However a 85 run partnership between Ian Newton & Sadeepa helped a recovery as Rothwell posted 191/8.
In reply opening bowlers Khan & Sadeepa made Allerton work for the runs but they were always behind the run rate after 20 overs being 85-4, however resistance & Charge by mid order batsmen Pinkerton put the pressure back on Rothwell. Ian & Alex Newton came onto bowl as they kept the runs tight keeping them at 4 an over. Pressure finally built as they made key breakthrough as Alex removed dangerman Pinkerton while Ian bowling uphill took 4 wickets for 17 runs off 8 overs, eventually making the task too much for Allerton Bywater as they fell 22 runs short.

Player of the Match goes to Ian Newton as he picks up the award for 2nd team for the first time.

Weekend Results!

Saturday the 1st team made the short journey down M1 to face 2nd in the league Darton.
On a warm Saturday afternoon Darton won the toss & decided to bat. They must have fancied their chance with Rothwell being bowled out for 98 week before. With Rothwell 3-2 then 49-4 it appeared to be the right choice. Until Bobby Roberts came to the crease coming in at 6 to join skipper McMaster. They steadied the pressure and kept the runs scoring , albeit at a slow pace. 100 came up on the board and soon after Bobby got his 2nd 50 of the season. From there a 100 partnership was formed before McMaster was dismissed for 30. From there partners came & went for Roberts, but the runs also came quicker for Bobby. Then 200 runs came on the board for rothwell with Bobby on 90 being 6 wickets down, then 3 wickets quickly fell & he was soon losing partners. Last wicket Kelly came to the crease with Bobby on 95. However Bobby managed to do it bringing his maiden 100 up with a 4 to a standing ovation.

Then another couple of quick boundaries were hit before being caught reverse sweeping after helping Rothwell put on a dominant 236.

Bobby’s 110 was hit in 109 balls with 17 4’s & 2 6’s.

In reply Rothwell could not have got off to a better start striking with the 1st ball, as Kelly found the opener caught at point.
However in the 3rd over of the day, it was not over for Bobby , as he found himself taking up the keeping gloves as Mosby had to leave the field injured after chasing & diving at the boundary earlier.
With Mosby Mosby heading to A&E finding out he had a fractured collar bone, Dom Roberts came to the field as 12th man.
Resuming play, Waqar & Liam produced a fine opening spell , bowling 21 overs together finding 4 wickets between them, with Darton on 70 the scoreboard.
A change of pace and change of fortunes it brought as Dwyer picked the key wicket of Wilkinson. From there the chase was passed, with then Baddeley & Iqbal picking up the final wickets with Darton being bowled out for 152.

Player of the Match goes to none other than Bobby Roberts - Sponsored by Northwood Heating.

2nd team
The 2nds were at home as we welcomed top of the table Ryhill & Havercroft. However with 2nds in a fine run of form it was anticipated to be a close encounter. Ryhill won the toss and loss an early wicket for a rare dismissal Obstruction of the Field, but from there wickets were hard work. Opener Vale found himself with a 50 before dismissed to a fine stumping by Theo bowled o Newton.
But only 6 wickets could be found with Ian Newton pick of the bowlers
In reply it was a tough ask but Rothwell gave it a good go against some good bowling, but were 49 runs short. Gaz Newton made 65 before being dismissed and 25 & 24 apiece to Olly & Ian Newton.

Player of the Match goes to Theo Heseltine - Sponsored by ACT Roofing
Theo was excellent with the glove work with a good stumping, while also contributing 19 with the Bat.
