Schools are back tomorrow and it's a busy first week back; 3 days with Unity Academy for some walking/rock climbing/abseil, a new GCSE PE climbing programme with Montgomery High, climbing clubs at Fleetwood High restart, some kayaking on Windermere with Blackpool Sixth, and 2 days delivering some sessions for the GB Climbing Squad!

Up on Pillar Rock again today. Wet and windy, and very slippery rock made for a fantastic challenging and atmospheric day, and a big tick for Angharad and Gareth!

Climbing Pillar Rock today with Pete, who is working his way through the Birketts.
An accomplished and experienced hill walker Pete contacted me for a helping hand with this one...

Although heavy rain was forecast, it never materialised and we made a quick ascent of Slab and Notch route (grade 3 / moderate) from Wasdale Head, with Pete (despite very little previous rock climbing experience) making short work of the climb, and the airy abseil off the top, and we were back at the cars by 1600!

This week we ran a bespoke 2 day scrambling course for Alex and Rebecca. They had both done a good bit of hill walking, including most of the classic grade 1 scrambles across the uk and we’re keen to learn some more advanced skills so they could get on some harder routes...

We had a brilliant couple of days, dodging the rain around Coniston on Monday before heading up the ultra classic Pinnacle Ridge on Tuesday, with Alex and Rebecca leading most of the route between them.

A last minute booking yesterday...
On the classic grade 3 scramble, Pinnacle Ridge, with Asim. What a day - blue skies (mostly), dry rough rock, and no one else on the route!

Unusual “funnel cloud” seen over Catstye Cam today, around lunch time, from Pinnacle Ridge.

If / when the funnel cloud touches the ground it becomes a tornado! Also associated with approaching supercell thunderstorms...

Either way, it’s a sure sign to get moving!

Day 2 of Kate’s 2 day scrambling skills course today, part of her prep for a Cuillin Ridge traverse.
We cruised up the classic Pinnacle Ridge on St Sunday’s Crag.
A real Alpine feel to the ridge today, sunny weather, lots of other parties, (a little) queuing on the crux corner, and a final race against the impending lightning storm!

Stunning weather in the Lakes again today for day 1 of a 2 day scrambling course with Kate. The Bell and Low Water Beck ticked off, whilst covering loads of rope work and scrambling skills!

Brilliant sunny day on Scafell Pike with the RPS team, who all got to the top in a great time and successfully raised £3000 for their chosen charity! Amazing achievement
