Divorce has a funny way of editing your friendships.

Some people step closer without being asked. They don’t need explanations or updates; they just quietly stay. They sit with you while you say the same thing for the millionth time, listen to all the venting, bring normality when everything feels strange, and remind you who you are, even when your world is upside down. Those friendships deepen, and I have always been so thankful for them.

Others drift, not always out of unkindness, but discomfort. Divorce makes people nervous. It holds up a mirror they didn’t ask to look into. Some don’t know what to say, so they end up saying nothing. Some prefer the version of you who slotted in somewhere, with a partner. When that changes, they don’t quite know where to put you.

And then there are the friendships that change shape. You outgrow certain conversations. Your tolerance for surface-level chatter definitely shrinks. You become more careful with your energy, more selective with your time. You don't become harder but you do protect your peace.

I think this has turned into a love letter for all my friends who stuck around, and the new ones I've made. Post-divorce, I may have lost a little quantity, but I have definitely gained in quality. ❤

The new year can feel brutally loud when you are separating.

Everywhere you look there are calls to reinvent yourself, start fresh, cut out sugar, alcohol, carbs, comfort, be stronger, fitter, calmer, better. As if upheaval itself isn’t already enough to contend with!

If you’re separating or newly divorced, the chances are you already feel like your entire life has been dismantled. The idea that you should now also give up a million things, set impressive goals, and emerge transformed by February can feel not just unrealistic, honestly, it can feel downright cruel.

Great to see Resolution's 'The Review' feature an article on Divorce Coaching, with Sarah Steele, a well-respected master coach. In a world where coaching is still eyed suspiciously by some, I suspect due to an overall variation in 'coaching' courses and skills. The professionalisation and recognition of the benefits of working with a skilled divorce coach alongside a lawyer is important.

On my first New Year’s Day after separating from my husband, I woke up with a crushing sense of dread. The kind that tells you you’re completely alone and won’t be able to cope.

It felt like my entire life was rolling out in front of me, and everything I knew had disappeared. I was terrified of being a single parent. How would I manage? Would I let my kids down? This wasn’t what I signed up for. This wasn’t the future I had imagined for myself or my family. Honestly, it was one of the most difficult days I had during my divorce.

If this is you today, holding fear about the future, about parenting alone, about how you’ll manage, I see you, and I hear you, and if you don't feel it yet, I promise you this:

YOU WILL BE OKAY.

You will rebuild your life brick by brick. You will still be a loving and constant parent for your kids. You will discover who your real friends are. You will have fun times, holidays, and make new memories. You might even fall in love again when the time is right.
