MAD OX 3-2 WYCO
⚽️ Muggy
⚽️ Levon
⚽️ Jordan
MOM: Levon & Travis
Mad Ox hosted Wyco on a windy but pleasant day and, for once, had a strong squad available, with three lads making their debuts.
Ox lined up with Benji in goal; a back four of Travis, McKenzie, Tilford and Jordan; Jayden and Lucca in midfield; with Levon, Kyle and Ceesay supporting Muggy up top. On the bench were Pearson, Jak and James, while injured pair Taylor and Marshall were there cheering the boys on.
Ox dominated the opening 20 minutes. Muggy fired just over the bar twice, while Ceesay tested the keeper. The breakthrough finally came when the impressive Levon swung a great ball into the box and Muggy arrived at the back post to ram home for 1-0. Muggy then went through on the keeper, rounded him, but unfortunately lost control of the ball.
Wyco are a decent side and worked their way back into the game. A free kick was not properly cleared and they slammed home the equaliser for 1-1. Kyle then hit a daisy-cutter just wide, while Lucca and Jayden were at the heart of most of Ox’s attacking play. Levon also smashed an effort from 25 yards that rattled the bar, and at half-time it was 1-1.
In the second half, Pearson, Jak and Fellows came on, and again it was Ox who enjoyed most of the possession and created the better chances. Playing against the wind, McKenzie and Tilford were outstanding, heading everything away.
Ox regained the lead when Jordan superbly found Levon, who passed to Ceesay. Ceesay then reversed it back into Levon’s path, and with the keeper rushing out, Levon elegantly chipped him for a superbly taken goal.
The game began to stretch, and Benji made two excellent saves down by the post. Pearson then hit a rasping shot that went agonisingly just over the bar. Jak was everywhere and impressed, as did Lucca and Fellows. Muggy also shot just wide.
Ox then made it 3-1 when Jordan drove into the box, played a lovely one-two with Kyle, and smashed home a fine goal that his captain’s display fully deserved.
Wyco were not done, though, and their midfielder delivered a superb ball into the box for their striker to bullet a header home and make it 3-2. Ox managed the final ten minutes well, although there were still chances to put the game to bed. Jayden, with the goal at his mercy, shot straight at the keeper, and Ceesay beat three men before smashing his effort wide.
The final whistle went with Ox winning 3-2 in a good contest, although it should really have been out of sight with better finishing.
