Dundee West 1 - 3 Kirrie Thistle Over 35's Football

Kirrie Over 35s kicked off their new campaign in style with an impressive 3–1 victory away to Dundee West in Dundee, as the squad welcomed a blend of familiar faces and fresh additions to the ranks.
The opening quarter was a tentative affair, with both sides taking time to settle and find their rhythm. Chances were limited as each team tested the waters. The breakthrough eventually came courtesy of sheer determination from Mark Macintosh, who battled hard to win possession and thread a pass into the box. Lurking in the right place at the right time, Danny Smith made no mistake from close range, calmly slotting home to give Kirrie a deserved 1–0 lead.

After the interval, Kirrie emerged the stronger of the two sides and began to assert real control. A flurry of opportunities came and went, with Dean Carnegie particularly unlucky — and perhaps slightly inconvenienced after his puppy had chewed the blades from his boots, leaving the striker struggling to keep his footing on the slick surface.
Undeterred, the big man soon found his balance and his scoring touch. Meeting a pinpoint cross from Mark Macintosh, Carnegie powered home to double Kirrie’s advantage at 2–0.

The visitors were now in full flow, moving the ball sharply from defence to attack and keeping Dundee West firmly on the back foot.
As the rain lashed down, Kirrie continued to press. Carnegie wasn’t finished yet — picking the ball up inside the West box, he weaved past an onrushing defender and the goalkeeper before coolly slotting into the net to claim his second of the match and put Kirrie 3–0 ahead.

The home side managed to put a goal back after a free kick saved by Kirrie keeper Lee Smith, fell to an opposing players feet and he managed to bundle the ball over the line making it 3-1 to the visitors.
Despite continued pressure and a desire for more goals, the scoreline remained 3–1 at the final whistle — a superb start to the season for the Kirrie lads. It was a fantastic all-round team performance, full of effort, quality, and determination.

Man of the Match honours deservedly went to Bruce Raffel for his outstanding contribution throughout.

Match Report - 29.8.24

Kirrie welcomed the newly formed team Montrose to Forfar for a friendly. Kirrie started very slowly with the visiting team dictating play with their slick passing and movement. Kirrie then lost Hampton to injury when he was hurt clearing the ball and Montrose capitalised on it with a quick pass into their striker who found space to rifle in the first goal. A change of formation was forced but that did very little to stop Montrose's flow in the game and it was not a surprise when the second followed and very quickly the third. Kirrie were very much second best at this point and lost another in MacDonald to injury. A slight tweak with position again had very little effect and Montrose found their fourth. Kirrie eventually found the back of the net when Reekie sprung the offside trap and buried into the bottom left-hand corner of the net. Half time 4-1
The second half started with Kirrie totally dominant and dictating play and now starting to create chances. Reekie picked up a loose pass and rounded the keeper only to see his effort cannon back off the post and into the grateful keeper's hands. Mark Godfrey was next to rattle the post with a crisp strike that beat the keeper but not the post. It was all Kirrie at this point with the visitor resorting to punts up the park that the Kirrie back line were taking control of and starting the attacks again. Then Kirrie was awarded a penalty after Reekie had taken the ball in and skinned the defender only to be brought down. Up stepped York but his penalty was well saved by the visiting keeper. This did not deter Kirrie as they continued their relentless attacks with the impressive Kinmond holding and linking play up top. Then the killer 5 was found by the visitor when some very impressive one-touch play in and around the Kirrie box resulted in their striker finding the net with their only venture forward in the second half. 5-1
Again Kirrie started a game very slowly and gave themselves a mountain to climb before they started to play. There were some positives to take from the game as they battered the visitor for the whole second half but again their Achilles heel of not being clinical enough in front of goal came back to haunt them as they could have very easily got a deserved draw against a very good team.

MATCH REPORT

Venue: Forfar Campus

Result: Kirrie Thistle Over 35's 1 v 2 Blairgowrie & Rattray Over 35’s

The over 35s clash between Kirrie and Blair at the campus was a hard fought contest that saw Kirrie dominate large spells of possession, but ultimately fell short against a clinical Blair side.

From the first whistle, Kirrie stamped their authority on the game with sharp passing and intelligent movement, carving out several opportunities through neat build up play. Despite their dominance and some dangerous balls played into the Blair box, they couldn't find the finishing touch and the first half ended goalless.

The second half began much the same, with kirrie controlling possession and probing the Blair defence. But against the run of play, a rare Blair attack saw a kirrie defender caught in a two on one situation. Blair capitalised, delivering a low cross into the box which was tapped home from close range to give them a 1-0 lead.

Undeterred, kirrie pushed forward with renewed determination. Richard Hampton's tireless running and mark Macintosh's pace and power had the Blair back line stretched, but fortune continued to favour the visitors. A mix-up at the back proved costly for Kirrie when their goalkeeper challenged and held down as Blair scrambled home a controversial second goal - one that stood despite strong protests.

Kirries perseverance finally paid off when a cross into the Blair area struck a defenders hand, whilst controversial, up stepped Greg little, who showed composure from the spot to thunder the ball into the net, giving Kirrie a deserved consolation.

In the end, Blair held out for the 2-1 win, but the scoreline didn't reflect Kirrie's dominance in possession or their attacking intent. On another day, with a little more luck in front of goal, the result could easily have swung in Kirrie's favour.

Man of the Match was Mark McDonald with a solid performance in defence.

⭐️Match Report - 18.7.25⭐️

Kirrie welcomed Brechin to Forfar Campus for a league encounter.
Brechin boyed by some very impressive results against 2 of the top teams in the league recently encountered a Kirrie team determined to get their season back up and running after some poor results. Kirrie started the game with the wind in their sails and Brechin had no answer for their passing, movement. It was the impressive pressing of Richie Hampton that opened the door for Kirrie to take the lead. Luke Reekie finishing with a crisp shot just out of the keeper's reach.

1-0

Kirrie continued in that vein and it wasn't long before the second goal came when a simple cross into the box and a calamitous mix-up between the goalkeeper and defenders allowed Luke Reekie to finish into an empty net from the corner of the 6-yard box.

2-0

Second half started as the first half finished with Kirrie very much on top all be it Brechin were starting to get a better footing in the game. Kirrie should have made it 3 on the night when great running from Mark MacIntosh got him behind the back line and his cut back found Luke Reekie for his hat trick only for a great last ditch block from the defender stopping the ball crossing the line. Kirrie didn't have to wait long for the third goal when the impressive Luke Reekie found Mark MacIntosh and he duly finished the move off.

3-0

Kirrie weren't finished there as a fourth goal was to follow when the ball found Michael Cruickshank free in the box to slot in just past the keeper.

4-0

Brechin did manage to get on the score sheet with a very good finish from their striker that left Lee Smith in the goal with no chance.
