NEWBIES WELCOMED TO TONIGHTS CLASS AT KIRKTON

It was pleasing to welcome Moira and Audrey to our dancing group at Kirkton tonight Thursday 17th September.
A quieter night with 34 dancers present, but what we lacked in quantity we certainly made up for in quality and enthusiasm.

Willie McRobert was our lone musician tonight, playing some fine music and as always, excellent tempos for dancing.

Along with Moira and Audrey the dancers had to look twice to check if we had ‘twins’ with us.
Sisters Margaret and Maureen arrived wearing identical dresses.
Margaret and Maureen are great supporters and are ever present at our group dances. We still think they are twins! But they insist they’re just ‘sisters’ (ha!)
You were both looking great ladies and dancing as well as ever.
Thanks for your support.

We tried the old original Circassian Circle (2 facing 2) which we eventually mastered, then formed the ‘circle’ for the second time through. I was left red faced when I started them ‘on the wrong side’ three starts later we done it!!

Tonight’s Kirkton Dance Group Programme Thursday 17th Sept:

Marine Four Step
Waltz of the Bells
Circassian Circle (2 facing 2 / Circle )
White Heather Fox Trot
Kirrie March
Old Oxford Waltz
Kelvingrove Two Step
Eva Three Step
Duke of Perth
New Hesitation Waltz
FlirtationTwo Step
Square Tango
Jazz Twinkle
Lomond Waltz
Jessie’s Polka

Pictured are Margaret and Maureen ‘sisters or twins?’

Next week the group will dance dances of the ‘ladies and gentlemen’ of dance!
Yeah, we will dance dances with names in the title.
At present we count roughly 25 such dances, we’ll dance as many as we can during the next couple of weeks.

Can you name the twenty five?

Happy dancing !!
Dancing is fun !!

THURSDAY NIGHT IS KIRKTON DANCE NIGHT

Over forty dancers in the hall tonight and a great night of dancing and fine music enjoyed by all.

William McRobert was in his usual place on accordion joined by George Meikle who provided harmonies and great playing to complement Willie’s music.
Well done guys, loved the tunes.

One tune Willie and George played was a waltz ‘Miss Caryn Goodfellow’ a tune recently composed by up and coming local accordionist Matthew Murray. Matthew was with us tonight to hear the tune, which was admired by us all. Nice one Matthew!

Tomorrow (11th September) is accordionist George Meikle’s birthday and Saturday (September 12th) is group leader John’s and also dancer Rosie’s birthdays, the company sang happy birthday, not once, not twice but THREE times for the birthday cohort!!
Happy birthday to all three.

A varied and lively programme again tonight, with the mix of old and newer dances.

KIRKTON OLD TYME DANCE GROUP NEW SEASON
THURSDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER

KIRKTON FALLS SILENT FOR IAN

The new season of the Kirkton Old Tyme Dance Group commenced on Thursday 3rd of September with thirty six dancers present.
Group organiser John Caskie started the new season by paying tribute to the groups regular drummer Ian McRobert who had sadly passed away at the end of August.
John reminded all that Ian, brother of regular accordionist Willie McRobert, was not only the groups drummer, he was a valued and respected friend of the group over many years.
The assembled gathering offered their condolences to Willie and observed a minutes silence in memory and respect for Ian, our drummer and our friend.

The dance programme was a mix of favourites from over the years with one new dance on the programme ‘The Sutherland Accordion and Fiddle Club Reel’ a 3 x 32bar reel devised by Sarah Horne.
Nice dance Sarah, and one we picked up pretty well.

Late on in the evening ‘it leaked’ that 3rd September was the Golden Anniversary of Robert and Shirley Haining.
Congratulations were accorded to Robert and Shirley with Shirley picking ‘The Four Hand Star’ as their anniversary dance.

Special mention to Willie McRobert who played exceptionally well for us again and treated us to great tunes and tempos for the dancing.
Alison and Bill were on tea duties and a great first night was over all to soon
