Prepare yourself for a touching story...

Ben Jebson (left) had just turned 30 when he was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma, a rare form of cancer. After months of chemotherapies, treatments and even a stem cell transplant, Ben was eventually given the all clear from cancer.

However, for the next four years Ben suffered from a side effect of his transplant called Graft v Host Disease. He sadly passed away from the condition in August 2019, after starting a family and having two children with his wife Lucy (right).

In Ben’s loving memory, a team made up of his family and friends held The Big Ben to Burton Walk this month — starting their adventure at Big Ben in London and making their way through England to Burton, covering up to 30 miles a day for 7 days, a total of 182 miles!

‘During our walk it will be the 7th anniversary of Ben’s transplant so it seems very fitting to have Anthony Nolan as one of the charities that we will support,’ Lucy tells us. ‘I spent a lot of time in hospital with Ben, and in that time we met a lot of incredible people for who a stem cell transplant has given them that second chance.’

‘We hope through our fundraising so many more people can find their match and, like us, be able to go on to have families, and create memories. Having fundraised for Anthony Nolan previously we know how grateful they are for our support and love the personal touches that a national charity provides for fundraisers.’

‘Although it was a tough few years, we are so grateful for the extra time we got with Ben and the chance in that time to have 2 children. A lifelong dream of Ben’s and a lasting legacy of his.’

Astonishingly, the team have raised over £40,000 (!) in loving memory of Ben, for the four charities they chose to support — one being Anthony Nolan.

We’d like to say a huge thank you and congratulations to Lucy and her team for their incredible support in loving memory of Ben. 🖤

Thanks to a number of local businesses our accommodation, travel, food and water during the week along with the costs of our clothing and promotion materials were fully sponsored. What a massive help this was for all of us 👏🏻

Thank you so much

The amazing Big Ben to Burton team were on BBC Look North tonight, talking about the 182-mile challenge they undertook in memory of Ben Jebson.

We are so proud to be one of the charities the team have raised an INCREDIBLE total for, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the group once again.
