Yesterday’s MOM was……………..our ball playing defender No.8, Henley Cone!!

In maybe his best game in a Hawks shirt yesterday, Henley was an absolute rock at the back.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been asking Henley to recognise when is the correct time to pass to start the team attacks and yesterday he was unbelievable! Intercepting every that came his way and stepping out of defence to set up a number of chances for his teammates.

Add that to 4/5 really important blocks he made in his own area and a clean sheet performance for his stint in goal it really was an impressive performance.

This week in a slight change to things the boys took on Aspire Football Academy JPL team on Saturday morning.

Knowing the opposition was a team of G1 players the lads knew once again it would be a tough test.

Game 1 had the perfect start with the boys scoring within the first 30 seconds, as the game settled down both teams were playing some lovely expansive football. This meant both teams creating some good chances and with the Hawks being much more clinical in front of goal then the opposition seeing us add a further 4 goals to our tally.

Game 2 was much the same with both teams looking very comfortable with the ball and working hard when out of possesion. Aspire had found their shooting boots with them converting a couple of their chances but again the Hawks just had a bit more cutting edge seeing them score half a dozen goals including 2/3 really well worked team goals.

Overall both games were an absolute joy to watch with spectators commenting on how well both teams played.

For the Hawks it was really pleasing to see them adapt mid game to a team playing a slightly different shape and a lot more fluid in their team movements. 👏🏻

Today’s MOM was…………..our defensive rock No. 4 Ellis Gilbey!!

Ellis brought his usual tenacity and will to win into this mornings game not giving the dangerous Hessle forwards a sniff. He intercepted and blocked anything that came his way!

Not only that but he’s developed a real skill of bringing the ball out of defence and starting attacks whilst also having the confidence to play backwards to his GK when needed.

In another early start this morning the lads entertained Hessle Rangers down at Sproatley Playing Fields.

With Hessle being one of the top teams over the past couple of years the boys knew it would be a tough test and step up in our pre season preparations.

Into Game 1 and after falling behind to an early goal, the lads started to up the tempo creating a number of chances before a great passing move brought us the equaliser. The boys continued to put pressure on the Hessle defence resulting in us taking the lead with a well taken goal from wide. Hessle then came back into the game grabbing their own equaliser after some tidy team play.

Game 2 and the boys really turned the screw, starting to play the football we’ve come to expect from them. This brought about 3 goals coming from some clever wing play. Again Hessle came back into the affair but the boys had the bit between their teeth now and showed a great attitude to recover the ball whenever Hessle were in possession.

Two great games between a couple of strong teams who looked to get the ball down and play whilst giving everything for their team.

The boys continue their pre season this morning with a friendly vs our friends Hessle Rangers.

With previous meetings between the two teams always being close, well contested affairs today promises to be no different!

The lads will be looking to build on last weeks impressive performance and will no doubt need to be 100% focused against a very good Hessle Rangers side.

Today’s MOM was………… our new signing No. 7 Charlie Mills!!!

Having only joined a few weeks ago Charlie has already shown what a great signing he will be for the Hawks.

With his strong dangerous running with and without the ball he didn’t give the opposition defence a moments rest today. And after being asked to calm down a little in front of goal he bagged himself a hat trick and a couple of assists.

And despite being on the end of some physical play from the opposing defenders he dusted himself down and got on with things, even making a brilliant defensive block on our own byline after sprinting the full length of the pitch to help his team out.

On another red hot morning the Hawks took on a tough Esperanza side down at Sproatley fields.

After a slight miscommunication caused the boys to concede an early goal they then used that to spur them on and really stepped things up. Putting constant pressure on the opposition and playing some really free flowing football. Resulting in some brilliant teams goals being scored.

Into the second game and again the boys didn’t let up, not letting the Esperanza players a second on the ball and working hard for each other in very warm conditions. After being asked to calm down in front of goal the Hawks once again opened up a healthy lead.

With it being a friendly both teams decided to play 3 games to give plenty of game time for everyone involved. And even despite a number of position changes and formation changes the boys saved the best for last. Scoring a number of goals with every member of the team touching the ball. What was really impressive that even despite being in front comfortably the reaction from all the boys in transition to win possession back was a great sign.

Well done to the Esperanza boys who didn’t stop giving their all throughout the game with a special mention to their GK who made some outstanding saves. All the best for the season ahead.

Overall this morning was a really pleasing, well balanced performance with every member of the team once again contributing to that. Hopefully we can take that into our friendly next weekend!

Today’s MOM was…………..our midfield magician No. 9 Archie McAllister!!

With a new number and the confidence new boots bring you Archie was at his creative best today.

He caused constant problems for the opposition defence , whether that was with his silky dribbling or his penetrative passing to set up teammates. Whilst also capping off his performance with a couple of coolly taken goals.

Add all that to the fact he played with his usual hard work and determination, working tirelessly up and down the pitch it was a great start to the new season for Archie.

The Hawks under 9 pre season kicked off with a last minute friendly vs East Riding Blacks this morning.

Having near on a month off football and playing on an unfamiliar pitch size it took the lads the first 10 minutes to shake the cobwebs off.

They soon find their rhythm playing some lovely football taking full advantage of the wider pitch and scoring some brilliantly taken goals whilst defending resolutely when up against a couple of dangerous opposition players.

Both teams decided with it being a friendly to play 3 x 20 minute games to give the boys plenty of game time.

This also gave the lads the opportunity to play in some different positions and formations.

Despite the warm weather and lack of match fitness, all the lads didn’t stop working hard throughout the full morning resulting in some very tired, sweaty players by the end of things.

Overall it was 3 good, competitive games played in the right spirit. All the best to East Riding Blacks for the new season.

The boys rounded off their U8 season last weekend with a day at the Beach as we participated in East Coach Soccer Beach Tournament. 😎

After a long, demanding season the day was treated as a day at the beach with a bit of football thrown in for good measure.

Having never played beach football the boys adapted well to the different conditions and style of play, finishing the group stage top of the group.

Once again it was great to see every player in the team contributing to the performances. Whether that be with some ice cool finishes, creative build up play or resolute defending and goalkeeping. 👏🏻⚽️

So into the knock out stages we went and after a long break in between games the boys were caught a little cold conceding a couple of early goals and despite regaining their composure and staging a fight back we was on the wrong end of a 4-3 result. 🙈

That disappointment was soon forgotten about as all the lads decided there was only one way to cool off with a dip in the sea together. 💪🏻🥶
