Yesterday saw the final games of the season play out in our leauge. With Hornsea unwilling to bring the game forward and with the majority of our squad heading to Wembley to cheer on Hull City to play off victory, we were forced to concede the game. Obviously we would have much rather played the game but with second place confirmed and unable to catch Springhead, there was no harm done.

Congratulations to Springhead Eagles on the title, we got caught cold in the first game of the season against them while missing a couple of players, and ultimately that cost us in the end as they maintained there winning run, until we faced them a couple of weeks ago and blew them away if a brilliant first half performance.

Disappointed not to win the league but can’t fault the girls and the plaudits we have had throughout the season and the football we have played has been fantastic.

Now we look forward to our trip to Holland 🇳🇱 and then preparing for next season.

This morning we welcomed friends Malet Valkyries to a bright and sunny Southy. The girls were in good spirits and looking to finish the season as strong as possible and keep the pressure on Springhead and at the very least cement 2nd spot.

The girls were on top form and an opening 2 goals from Jess to bag her 200th Preston goals set the tone early on.

Further goals from Hayley, Mylie and India proved too much for a spirited Valkyries in a dominant first half display.

The opposition came out stronger and determined in the second half and combined with some rotation from us resulted in a more even second half with 2 goals a piece. Jess completed her hat trick and Mylie deservedly added a second after another great performance on the left wing.

All in all another great game for the girls that did everything we asked. Slight disappointment in the goals we conceded but full credit to the opposition for never giving up and their second goal was an unstoppable effort.

Coaches Player - A superb hat trick to break her 200th goal milestone the award went to Jess for an impressive performance.

Supporters Player - Brilliant defensive performance full of grit and determination got Ruby the deserved supporters vote.

Captain Player - A nice touch as Jess and Imogen chose to award the Supporters with the award for their fantastic support this season. And we have to agree, it’s a pleasure to have this group of parents/grandparents on the sideline.

One game to go as we welcome Hornsea to Southy for anyone that’s not at Wembley.

Saturday saw the girls make the trip across the bridge for our final away game of the season to play Barton.

The game started slow and seemed really flat and we never looked like getting up to the intensity of the previous week when we blew top of the league Springhead away with a stunning first half.

Even when Bella opened the scoring, we never really got going and even allowed Barton the time and space to find an equaliser.

A second for Bella and a goal for Mylie ensured we were in control going into half time but the girls still hadn’t reached the level we know they are capable of and we asked them to step it up and moved the ball about with a bit more purpose during the second half.

An improved performance in the second half with goals from Leah, Jess and an own goal from a dangerous corner added to the scoring.

The win ensured a 100% away win record for the girls and leaves us with just 2 remaining home games to cement our runners up position and keep the pressure on leaders Springhead.

Coaches Player - A real bright spark in an otherwise flat first half, Mylie was a constant treat down the left win and put in some brilliant balls.

Supporters Player - India showed really good link up play with her strike partner Bella and was key to Bella grabbing her second goal with some really unselfish play.

Captains Player - Ruby came over felling ill just before KO to come on an put in a strong and committed performance as part of a back 3 facing some long balls over the top and dealt with them well with some good defending.

Next up we welcome Malet Valkyries who had a great result against Chants at the weekend and are a dangerous opponent on their day and we will have to be at our best to ensue the result.

Saturday saw the girls make the trip to Harness Park to face top of the league and undefeated Springhead Eagles. This has been a fixture we have been looking forward to ever since the narrow defeat on the opening game of the season.

We suffered a really disappointing defeat to Chants last weeks but the girls were in great spirits and more determined than ever to bounce back and show what a good side they are with a big performance.

The girls started brilliant, passing the ball about well on a lovely surface and looked really up for this game and were playing with purpose and confidence. With Eagles having one of the best keepers in the league we knew we would have to be clinical today if we wanted to take maximum points. The first few attacks we were bit loose with the ball and lacked that killer pass and Springhead were at their most dangerous when their No1 had the ball and it was a big kick right over the top. Very route one but can see how it is effective and despite us playing by far the better football we were caught with one big kick over the top and a pacy forward breaking the line to finish.

The goal was massively against the run of play and we needed the girls to just stay calm and keep playing their football. The response and character shown for first class!

The girls totally flipped the game on its head with 4 unanswered goals before half time.

Jess pulled us level just before India came off the bench to provide a different dimension to our attack and grabbed a quick brace from close range after some great deliveries into the box. And then a stunning strike from Jess after a failed clearance put us in totally control. A really impressive half from the girls with some lovely football played.

A little bit of complacency and loss of shape in the second half allowed Springhead back into the game and made it far tighter and more nervous than it needed to be but the girls stuck at it and ensure we got the deserved win. Despite the 2 quick goals from Springhead in the second half we were still comfortably the better team but had to show really grit and character to see the game out. A big win but makes last week all the more disappointing, because if we had performed like this last week, we would be in a great position to win the league. It’s still possible but it’s not in our control, so let’s see what happens.

Coaches Player - Olive once again was a calm head at the back, didn’t panic and did all the basic really well and kept the game simple. Always on hand to clear the ball when needed and place the pass when it was on.

Supporters Player - 2 great goals and such a determined performance. Jess doesn’t give and less then 100% and her commitment shines through. A really team player that will run through walls for her team.

Captains Player - India made a great impact off the bench to turn the game, with great movement and 2 quick goals from being in the right place at the right time..

3 games to go and it’s an early start Saturday as we go across the bridge for 9.30am KO 😴
