8 WEEKS OF PRE-SEASON. DONE. ✅🦁
In true Lions fashion, we went out this summer and raided another handful of quality signings. A few players moved on along the way, but what we’ve been left with is, without question, the strongest and most complete Lions squad we’ve had.
Our first game away at Easington feels like a lifetime ago. There was quality on the pitch, but we weren’t a team yet. New signings were shelling it, old players were trying to keep things local, and tactically we were dysfunctional.
It didn’t take long to change that.
A few sessions in and the message became clear: we’re not here to just turn up and play football. We’re here to control games, play our football and impose Lions Ball on whoever is in front of us.
Once the lads understood what I demanded from them, the turnaround was frighteningly quick.
I deliberately targeted opposition higher than us in the football pyramid throughout pre-season. I’d seen the quality we had and wanted these lads tested. I wanted difficult games. I wanted them humbled. I wanted them reminded that nothing this season would come easy.
They completely ruined that plan. 😂
Instead, they went out and made teams levels above us look ordinary at times.
7 GAMES.
6 CONSECUTIVE WINS.
32 GOALS SCORED.
1 LOSS.
Pre-season has shown us what we’re capable of.
But it has earned us absolutely nothing.
No points. No trophies. No medals.
5th September is when it starts to matter.
The standards have been set. The expectations are clear. Every player in that dressing room knows exactly what I expect from them this season.
Now it’s time to prove that everything we’ve built over these eight weeks means something.
Bring on Division 3.
Bring on the pressure.
Bring on the season.
UP THE FU***NG LIONS. 🦁💚💛
