We have finally had a chance to sit down and look at face book responses. Would appear our decision was a very welcome one and a few sites have taken our stance. Some negative content, some of which has had complaints from their own followers has mostly been constructive and we can reengage this at a later time. The ban on snipers filming to post their head shots has come from years of issues with a bravado style of playing that simply didn’t fit the style of airsoft we run.
There is nothing personal in this decision, we as a company have every right to protect our customers from unnecessary shots that can cause injury. There’s enough of that already as Airsoft it is a contact activity. We ask to make body shots wherever possible but sometimes the only target you have is the head. Keeping this decision in context is really important.
A threat of posting to shame hasn’t appeared yet (I hope it’s doesn’t) as the question should be, why was this not brought up at the time rather than stored for an occasion such as this. Showing a site manager, even if it’s them, that hits are not being taken is a great use of the equipment on site as it helps keep the whole game in a fair level playing field. Everyone can have a bad day. Using it to shame rather than educate is divisive and doesn’t work. Be kind in all things.
The rules of filming with out consent it’s as grey as the community has allowed it to be. All our sites make sure go-pro users use the equipment for themselves and make sure the check with anyone in them that they are ok for its use. Children in footage is an absolute no without consent from a P/G. Identifying someone isn’t that hard, even if wearing a face mask. Clothes and the face mask are always unique in some way.
When this sniper head shot competition was announced, we made it clear on a few of the sites we didn’t want to take part. No one had approached us to ask if we wanted to take part at which point we would have said no, then all this could have been avoided.
If you’re a site owner and don’t agree with such a ban, that’s ok. It’s your business and your hobby, be kind and have fun, always listen to your customers and you will have a long run.
Gunman, that’s been around longer than most players have been playing these days is getting a rough time for standing their ground and disagreeing with a style of gaming, yet we’re under a strange political social media response.
Airsoft is in no way politically correct or have a political agenda. It’s just silly bu**er with toy guns playing in the woods. Keep it real.
