Gartcairn U18s 2 – 4 Kilbirnie Ladeside Ladies
Kilbirnie Ladeside Ladies returned from Airdrie with an excellent away victory after an entertaining and evenly contested match against Gartcairn U18s on a scorching hot afternoon.
The visitors started brightly and took the lead midway through the first half thanks to a stunning strike from Emma MacLeod. Picking the ball up around 25 yards from goal, MacLeod unleashed an unstoppable effort into the net to give Kilbirnie a deserved advantage.
Both sides competed well throughout a closely fought opening period, but Kilbirnie held firm to take a 1-0 lead into half time.
Ladeside extended their advantage early in the second half when Catherine Inglis showed great composure to finish smartly at the goalkeeper’s near post and make it 2-0.
Gartcairn responded strongly and enjoyed a sustained spell of pressure. Goalkeeper Chloe Crawford produced a number of important saves to keep Kilbirnie ahead, but the home side eventually found a way back into the game and managed to level the score.
As the match entered the final quarter, Kilbirnie rotated the squad and handed academy debuts to Myleene McVey and Rosalind Welsh — a proud moment for the club’s player pathway.
It proved to be a memorable debut for McVey, who restored Kilbirnie’s lead with a brilliant interception and equally impressive first-time long range finish.
With only minutes remaining, Inglis grabbed her second of the afternoon to seal an impressive 4-2 victory for the visitors.
A huge thank you to Gartcairn for their hospitality and we wish them all the very best for the rest of the season.
