K.Lions Youth U12 v Wordsley Wasps Stingers

An entertaining game was produced by two sides today down at Wolverley. Lions were under early pressure from the start but kept their opponents at bay and then found themselves taking the lead through a classic set piece, Jack providing the perfect cross from a corner for Toby to power home a brilliant headed finish. We led for the first time this season!

But…unfortunately our lead didn’t last long. Pressure in our box from the Wasps finally told and all of a sudden we lost our lead and concentration, going into the break 3-1 down.

Half time was a chance to restore some belief back in to the boys, and remind them to pass the ball more and win those individual contests. We started brightly but couldn’t contain the wasps as their smart play overloaded our box and we became over ran with a flurry of goals from the opposition to give them a deserved win. Well played Wordsley.

Lots of effort, another goal scored and more smiles from our boys….remembering we are still new to this level of football, and what we lack in quality we certainly make up in attitude and a strong mentality to stay positive. Seeing those smiles and cheers when we scored was sooooo good! Well done to our POTM Toby & PPOTM Alex 👏. Onto training and our next challenge.

Today we visited wrens nest youth, a team like ourselves struggling at the foot of the table. After a back and forth start to the match where we defended very well we were unlucky to concede a penalty after a spot of pin ball in and around our box. Wrens nest's striker cooly beating Joe from the spot. We gradually gained a foothold into the game and started playing some of the best football we have seen so far this season, passing the ball well and creating some chances. It wasn't long before our good play payed off and we were awarded a penalty of our own after some good footwork in the box from Toby. He picked himself up to take the pen only to strike the foot of the post. More misfortune and frustration for the boys. However we didn't let our heads drop and we carried on playing some nice stuff after the break and it wasn't long before we got our reward when alex got on the end of the ball after a bit of pin ball in their area. We finally had the ball in the net this season and really had our tails up. We were in the ascendancy at this point and looked likely to get another at some point, only to be undone on the break after a contentious decision by the ref to overrule the linesman and give wrens nest the lead once more. We had to pick ourselves up yet again and try to find the equaliser and after a more even 10 minutes we had a big chance to get it. However their keeper made a great save to deny us and we were caught straight away on the counter. Another goal quickly followed making the scoreline look very unflattering as we had conceded twice in the final couple of minutes.
Final score, wrens nest 4-1 kiddy lions.
A very good team performance regardless of the final score. None more so than our goalkeeper joe who is putting everything he is learning in training to great use,
our man of the match jack, who was particularly solid in the heart of the defence and our most improved player jenson who was asked to play out of position and out of his comfort zone today but was everywhere. Well done lads, bring on training and next week's match. Let's keep pushing on and improving together! We coaches are super proud of you!!!

A daunting prospect with a trip to the impressive Kewford Eagles for a cup match with our smallest squad of the season and some key players missing. Our boys worked magnificently against a well organised and dangerous opponent. They gave everything and considering we had a small squad with limited options and playing against top of the league who have won all their games, it was a performance to be proud of and played with a true team spirit. Goalkeeper Joe was excellent between the sticks and ensured the score remained respectable with some brilliant handling and super saves & Alan our winger found his position on the pitch with a determined performance, both superb today and really deserved your awards.👏
Out of the cup this
season but what an improved effort from the team compared to our previous meeting. Let's look forward to training now and be ready for our next challenge in two weeks time.

Some of our recent man of the match and most improved winners.
We have been working hard on the training pitch recently to improve results. This is showing on the pitch and I'm sure things will start going our way soon. Let's all stick together and keep on steadily improving week on week. Super proud of our boys.

Not the result we was looking for but some real positives to take from the game, we will improve as our confidence grows and can work on some of our weak areas in training to help us improve.

Heads were held high today with you all working hard as a team. We have had some really good individual performances with a couple of shout outs to our MOTM going to Matthew who worked really hard to boss the defence with some great pressure down the middle, he is always willing to get back and put his all into the game for the team!!

Our ‘Most Improved Player’ Ethan for working really hard when he came off the bench and putting in the tackle of the season right at the end of the game to win the ball and getting a well done from some of the opposition parents.

You all should be really proud of yourselves for trying so hard as a team specially as we have only been together for 12weeks, Well done boys onto training where we go again ready for our next game!!
