🐝🏆 Cookley Hornets U11s Presentation Day 2025 🏆🐝

What a fantastic way to celebrate the end of the season!

On Saturday, the Hornets got together for our end-of-season presentation event. The day started with some snow tubing, which turned out to be a little more exciting (and a lot more soggy!) than expected thanks to the rain and plenty of water from the hoses! Thankfully, that didn't stop the players from having a brilliant time and creating lots of laughs and memories together.

The players were having so much fun that they even managed to persuade me to have a go on the snow tubing too! I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, the kids or the coach! 😄

After drying off, the team enjoyed some well-earned pizza before moving on to the trophy presentation, where we celebrated the efforts and achievements of every player throughout the season.

We couldn't be prouder of what this group has achieved. This season has brought plenty of challenges, including stepping up to 9v9 football, joining a new league, welcoming new players, and facing some very strong opposition. Through it all, the players have shown resilience, determination, teamwork, and a willingness to keep improving.

While the football has been fantastic to watch, what has impressed me most is the friendships that have been built along the way. At the start of the season, we had a newly formed squad with players arriving from different backgrounds and some experiencing team football for the very first time. Over the course of the year, those individuals have become a close-knit group of friends who genuinely enjoy spending time together both on and off the pitch.

Watching them encourage each other through difficult games, celebrate each other's successes, welcome new teammates into the group, and create memories together has been every bit as rewarding as seeing them improve as footballers. The team spirit within this squad is something special and is a credit to every single player.

On a personal note, I want to say how proud I am to have been given the opportunity to coach such a fantastic group of children. Their effort, attitude, and commitment week after week have made every training session and matchday worthwhile. Seeing the friendships they've created and the confidence they've gained throughout the season has been incredibly rewarding.

A huge thank you to all the parents and families for your support throughout the season. We couldn't do it without you. 🐝⚽💛🖤

🐝 Cookley Hornets vs Kidderminster Harriers Girls – Friendly Fixture 🐝

This weekend saw the Hornets take on a strong Kidderminster Harriers Girls side in a friendly that had a little extra spice… with brother vs brother on the sidelines and cousin vs cousin on the pitch! 😄

It was a repeat of the fixture from earlier in the season, where the girls came out on top, so the Hornets were keen to show just how much they’ve improved since then.

From the first whistle, the game was full of energy, determination, and plenty of competitive spirit from both sides. The girls gave the Hornets a real test, showing strength, skill, and resilience, and at times the game was played at a frantic end-to-end pace.

Chances came and went for both teams, with neither side willing to give an inch. Eventually, the breakthrough came when the ball broke kindly for the Hornets, and it was smashed home to give them the lead — cue big celebrations!

The second half was just as tense, with the Hornets creating more chances but coming up against a very impressive Harriers goalkeeper, who pulled off a number of excellent saves to keep her team in the game. It really was a match played on a knife edge right until the final whistle.

In the end, the Hornets were delighted to come away with a well-deserved win, but huge credit goes to the Harriers girls for a fantastic performance and a brilliant game played in great spirit.

🌟 Players of the Match – Noah S & Charlie 🌟
A joint award this week for two outstanding performances:

Noah S was rock solid at centre back, winning every tackle and not putting a foot wrong all game.
Charlie covered every blade of grass in midfield, helping both defence and attack and playing a huge role in getting the team over the line.

Brilliant effort from both — well deserved! 👏💪

A fantastic, fun, and competitive game for everyone involved — exactly what football at this level is all about! 🐝⚽

🐝 West Worcester vs Cookley Hornets – Away Fixture 🐝

The Hornets travelled to West Worcester, greeted by great weather and a pitch in fantastic condition — perfect for a proper game of football.

Cookley started brightly, with both teams going head to head early on, feeling each other out in a competitive opening spell. The Hornets looked organised and up for the challenge, but a brief lapse in concentration allowed West Worcester to take the lead.

To their credit, the Hornets responded brilliantly. Rather than letting their heads drop, they pushed forward with intent and created several promising attacking opportunities. Time and again, the team worked themselves into good positions, but just lacked that final bit of confidence in front of goal, taking one touch too many instead of pulling the trigger.

Those missed chances proved costly, as West Worcester began to take control and showed their quality in front of goal, demonstrating the importance of finishing opportunities when they come.

The second half followed a similar pattern, but the Hornets never stopped battling. Their persistence was finally rewarded with a well-deserved goal, a moment that reflected their hard work and determination throughout the match.

As always, the effort and attitude of the players could not be faulted. Against a strong side, the Hornets showed resilience, bravery, and a willingness to keep going right until the final whistle — all positive signs of their continued development.

Jake produced an excellent performance at left back, showing strength in the tackle, making important blocks, and displaying great composure on the ball. A calm and reliable presence throughout — well done, Jake! 👏💪

🐝 Cookley Hornets vs Kinver Colts – Home Fixture (Played at Mostyn Rangers) 🐝

The Hornets were back in action after a short break over the Easter holidays, hosting old rivals Kinver Colts. Although it was a home fixture, the match was played at Mostyn Rangers’ ground due to cricket at Cookley — a big thank you to Mostyn for their hospitality. The pitch was in fantastic condition and provided the perfect surface for football.

Facing one of the strongest teams in the league, the Hornets went into the game full of energy and enthusiasm. The bright start caused Kinver early problems, including a nervy moment at the back where a stray back pass nearly resulted in an own goal, only just going the wrong side of the post for Cookley.

There was great battling all over the pitch, with the Hornets showing determination and willingness to compete. As the half progressed, Kinver began to assert more control and created chances, forcing some strong saves from the Cookley goalkeeper. Their pressure eventually paid off as they capitalised on a couple of physical moments in the box to find the net.

Kinver were also awarded a penalty in what could be described as a questionable decision, but the Hornets’ goalkeeper stood tall and produced an excellent diving save to his right to keep it out — a real highlight of the match.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Kinver enjoying spells of possession but the Hornets continuing to battle and look dangerous on the counter. A number of strong breakaways nearly brought reward, only to be denied by a superb recovery tackle from the Kinver goalkeeper.

Although the result didn’t go Cookley’s way, the performance showed clear improvement. The effort, teamwork, and bravery on display were excellent, and it was particularly pleasing to receive praise from both the referee and the opposition coach for the progress the team has made.

🌟 Players of the Match – Oscar, Jimmie & Noah C 🌟
This week’s award was decided by the players themselves, and it was a three-way tie.

🐝 Redditch United vs Cookley Hornets – Away Fixture
Saturday 7th March 🐝

The Hornets travelled to Bromsgrove on Saturday to face Redditch United with a reduced squad due to injuries and player availability. Knowing Redditch were a strong side who had caused problems in the previous meeting, the Hornets went into the match prepared for a tough challenge.

From the opening whistle Redditch pushed forward, applying early pressure, but the Hornets’ defensive unit stood strong. Time and again the team repelled attacks with determined tackles, brave blocks, and great teamwork. On the occasions Redditch managed to break through, the Hornets goalkeeper was there to mop up any danger with confident saves.

Despite the pressure, the Hornets showed they were not just there to defend. A number of quick counter attacks caused problems for the opposition and demonstrated the team’s growing confidence. The defensive resilience and hard work meant the Hornets reached half time with the scores level, clearly frustrating and rattling their opponents.

Redditch came out quickly in the second half with renewed intensity, and although the Hornets continued to battle and support each other, the sustained pressure eventually proved too much. Even as the game wore on, the team never stopped working for each other and showed just how well they can compete against strong opposition when they play with belief and determination.

🌟 Player of the Match – The Whole Team 🌟
This week the award goes to the entire squad for the effort, energy, and battling performance shown throughout the match. After a difficult couple of weeks, the players showed just how capable they are when they work together and support each other. It truly felt like a different team out on the pitch, and the performance should give everyone great confidence going forward. 🐝⚽

🐝 Kinver Colts vs Cookley Hornets – Away Fixture
Saturday 15th February 🐝

The Hornets travelled to face familiar opponents Kinver Colts, with the match switched to the 3G surface at King Charles due to the heavy rainfall that has disrupted fixtures since the New Year. With games becoming stop-start and a couple of new players recently joining the squad, this was a great opportunity to regain momentum and continue building as a team.

Having experienced some difficult results against Kinver earlier in the Trophy Event, the Hornets went into the game determined to show improvement and resilience, and they did not disappoint. As expected, Kinver enjoyed large spells of possession and controlled much of the tempo, but the Hornets produced a defensive masterclass.

The team worked tirelessly for one another, repelling attack after attack through brave blocks, strong tackles and important saves. Although Kinver’s dominance eventually showed, the Hornets successfully blunted a normally sharp attacking side and ensured the result remained respectable, highlighting the significant progress in both performance and team spirit.

🌟 Player of the Match – Tom 🌟

Tom, one of our new signings stepping up from U10s, looked completely at home at this level, flying into tackles and blocks while bringing calmness to the defence. His composure helped lift those around him and build confidence across the back line.

A very encouraging performance that clearly shows the continued improvement and togetherness within the squad. 🐝⚽

🐝 Cookley Hornets vs PlayR Pro Jaguars – Home Fixture
Friday 24th January 🐝

The Hornets were back at Cookley this weekend, welcoming PlayR Pro Jaguars in what proved to be a challenging afternoon. With illness and injuries hitting the squad hard, the Hornets did well to field the bare minimum of nine players, knowing it would be a tough test with no substitutions available.

Despite the circumstances, the first half was a competitive affair, with both teams going toe to toe and neither side able to fully take control. Unfortunately, a brief lapse in concentration allowed the Jaguars to gain momentum, and the Hornets were punished for it.

To their credit, the Hornets kept pushing in search of a goal before half-time and came agonisingly close with the final kick of the half, only for the effort to just lack the direction needed.

The second half followed a similar pattern early on, with the Hornets continuing to press and show real determination. As the game wore on, the lack of substitutes began to tell, and tired legs allowed the Jaguars to take greater control and manage the remainder of the match.

While the result didn’t go our way, the effort and commitment shown by the players — particularly given the circumstances — was something to be proud of and provided another valuable learning experience for this developing group.

🌟 Player of the Match – Jake W 🌟
Jake W epitomised teamwork and commitment throughout the match. Asked to fill in multiple positions as the team adjusted to being short on players, he did so without complaint and with great determination. His versatility and willingness to put the team first made him a deserved Player of the Match. 👏💪

🐝 Cookley Hornets vs Redditch United – Home Fixture
Saturday 17th January 🐝

The Hornets returned to action on Saturday, welcoming a strong Redditch United side to Cookley for our first match back after the Christmas break. With earlier fixtures postponed due to winter weather, this was the team’s first competitive outing since December.

The signs of a long break were evident early on, with the Hornets still a little in holiday mode during the warm-up — something that showed in the opening stages. Against a physically strong and energetic opposition, we initially struggled to match Redditch’s intensity, and they were quick to take advantage.

As the first half progressed, the Hornets gradually began to find their rhythm, moving through the gears and starting to play with more confidence and purpose. A few tweaks at half time helped sharpen the team further, and the second half was a completely different story.

The Hornets came out with renewed determination and fight, causing Redditch a number of problems and carving out several strong chances. That persistence was deservedly rewarded with a well-taken goal, sparking huge celebrations and lifting the entire team.

Overall, for a first game back after the break, it was a positive showing against a very strong side. The second-half performance in particular showed just how much character and potential this group has.

🌟 Player of the Match – Arthur 🌟
Arthur made a huge impact after coming on as a substitute, helping to change the mentality of those around him with his relentless work rate. He never stopped trying to win the ball back, drove the team forward with confidence, and capped his performance by scoring his first goal of the season. A brilliant contribution — well done, Arthur! 👏💪
