And that’s a wrap! ESF Festival of Football at Butlin's 2026 over and out…
Every single one of our girls has worked and played so hard, but a special mention to our superstar goalkeeper Maisie for winning the ‘Magic Moments’ award for an epic save in one of the matches 💪 absolutely well deserved! We are all so proud of her, long may it continue

Today’s the day the girls go back on tour for the ESF Festival of Football at Butlin's! Let’s pray for some nice weather ☀️☀️
Wish the girls luck, let’s see if we can get to the final this year as we were runners up last year 💪

Training in the sunshine ☀️ just hits differently doesn’t it?!
The girls had an interesting session yesterday where our coach played ‘biased ref’ with them unknowingly 🤣 there reactions were priceless!
Then we were treated to a game of football rounders for the last 5 minutes which the girls love, playing against the parents… although, I think they were seeking revenge as they took two of us parents out by a ‘Sophie kick’ straight to the thigh (instantly numb) 🤣 and an almost broken finger!

Gornal DC U12 Girls Jaguars v Kidderminster Lions U12 Lionesses

The young Lionesses started this weekends match immediately on the front foot and made themselves plenty of chances on goal but just couldn't seem to get the ball in the back of the net. However, watching them play you just knew that it was inevitably coming..
At one point Gornal broke through and managed to get off a goal bound shot but a diving save from goalkeeper Maisie managed to push the ball round the post. Other than that the majority of the play felt like it was dominated down the other end of the pitch and the continued pressure eventually paid off when Daisey powered down the left wing towards the corner flag, skilfully turned her player and crossed a high shot into the box over everyone's heads and into the top corner of the goal to put us 1-0 up. Yet another contender for her goal of the season.

The second half continued with good coverage of the pitch. The match was quite physical at times but the girls stood their ground and were equally as strong and up to the challenge.
There were admittedly a few hairy moments in the closing minutes of the game where Gornal piled on the pressure looking for their equaliser but we remained defensively strong and cleared up any chances they created to close out for a well deserved win.
PoTM: Unanimously went to Maisie C for a very impressive performance today. She showed real strength and vision on the ball, created some good chances for others, pushed through on goal at every opportunity and her physicality was a match for anyone trying to mark or defend against her.
OPoTM: Daisey had a mention but the oppositions player of the match was given to Isobel for her strong dominant performance keeping things tight in midfield.
PPoTM: This one was again unanimously agreed between the parents and supporters as being Steve!! Today was the day that our big hearted coach completed his massive 15 .3 mile sponsored solo run from home to the rearranged away fixture and in doing so has managed to raise an amazing £690 for the team funds through sponsorship. What an amazing achievement and one which is very much appreciated by everyone linked to our fab team. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🫶🏻💪🏻

P.s we had a new linesman today, and he was VERY enthusiastic about it (see video) 🤣🤣

Tomorrow is the big day for our assistant coach Steve! He is running from his house in Kidderminster all the way to our away match in Wolverhampton - a whopping 15miles!!!

Kidderminster Lions U12 Girls Lionesses v Halesowen Town U12 Girls Hawks.

This weekends home game was finally played in beautiful sunshine which was a welcome contrast to the usual wind and rain.

The game was evenly matched from the start with both teams creating themselves some good chances. It took a while for the deadlock to be broken when a clearance was picked up by Daisey who powered forward and caught their defence off guard. She skillfully rounded the remaining players to put us 1-0 ahead.
A few minutes later we saw another high shot on goal pushed over the crossbar but we weren't able to convert the resulting corner.
Maisie in goal was kept busier this week but she verbally and physically commanded her area well and was quick off her line to intercept a lot of the incoming through balls.
The Lionesses looked good as a team and worked hard to support each other at both ends of the pitch, they went into half time holding on to their narrow lead.
The second half started with a different feel about it. The Lionesses seemed to lose their momentum and focus a bit, resulting in Halesowen starting to get to balls first and breaking through our back line. This inevitably led to their equaliser and minutes later capitalised on another opportunity to score their second and take the lead.
After a quick waterstop we came back on with a bit more spirit but still struggled to make much of an impact. Out of nowhere, an amazing through ball from Isobel in midfield set Daisey up to run on and score a definite contender for her goal of the season! 2-2!!!
The game finished as a well earned draw which feels like a fair reflection of the game.
