Well… THE BIG DIG 2026 is done — and what a weekend! 🪙⛏️

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who attended, our landowners, sponsors, vendors, traders, food and bar teams, entertainment, marshals, admin, helpers, friends and family. You all helped make the weekend what it was.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we raised £4,825, and with a further £520 generously added from the auction, our final total is an AMAZING…

The laughs, banter, karaoke and friendships made all the hard work worthwhile.

’Twas the eve of The Big Dig, and all through the land. Detectorists waited, machines close at hand. The batteries charging, the spades by the door, While everyone dreamed of the treasures in store. The tents had been packed and wellies thrown in. Hopes of a hammered, a Roman or ring. Finds pouches empty, but hopefully not long. And somewhere a detectorist is packing his thong. Some checked their batteries for the hundredth time, While others were practising karaoke lines. Stood in mirrors, hairbrushes clenched in hand. Convinced by tomorrow they’ll be fronting a band. Someone’s doing Sweet Caroline loud and clear, while their neighbours wish they were nowhere near. Elvis impressions, hips all a sway. Mate, save it for The Big Dig karaoke day. For months it’s been planning through sweat, stress and strife, and now The Big Dig is finally bursting to life. Fields lie waiting, soil unexplored, and within ten minutes someone will holler, “Is this a hammered?” Nah mate, it’s a bloody bottle top. Will it be gold? Silver? A buckle? Or ring? Saxon surprise or some medieval thing? Maybe a Roman that’s waited centuries for you… Or a ring pull from 1982. Because that’s detecting’s mischievous way. Heart thumping in the soil you dig, “This is it, first gold at The Big Dig!” And nestled sweetly inside the hole, congratulations pal, another ring pull. So double-check your kit, check it again twice, bring suncream, bring waterproofs – British weather’s not nice. Get detector, phone and torch light too, because this time tomorrow, it’ll all be new. Tonight, excitement, butterflies and cheer, because that weekend we’ve waited for is finally here. Just one more sleep, if sleep even comes. Tomorrow it all starts, detectors at the ready, thumbs. And please… put that hairbrush down, karaoke royalty – your neighbours need peace tonight. Go on, lights out. Tomorrow, the Big Dig begins. Let’s go find history… or another ring pull.

🚨 THE BIG DIG – COME PREPARED! 🚨

We’re nearly there! 🥳 With a full weekend of detecting ahead of us, please make sure you come prepared for ALL weather conditions ☀️🌧️💨

A few essentials we strongly recommend:

🔦 Head torch / torch
☀️ Suncream, hat & sunglasses
💧 Plenty of bottled drinking water
🔋 Power banks / charging equipment for your detector
🥾 Good boots or wellies
🌧️ Waterproofs
🧥 Warm layers for the evenings
🧤 Gloves
🩹 Basic first aid kit
🦟 Insect repellent
🔋 Spare batteries
💰 Cash as well as cards
🗑️ Rubbish bags – leave no trace
🍫 Snacks and energy food
⛏️ And all the usual detecting gubbins!

⚠️ IMPORTANT – NO BARBECUES OR OPEN FIRES ⚠️

Due to the extremely dry conditions, we simply cannot take any chances.

🔥 If you are bringing a GAS barbecue or gas cooker, please make sure you also bring a small fire extinguisher or fire blanket with you. Gas cookers/barbecues must be kept safely off the ground at all times.

🧯 Black ADA will have fire blankets available to buy in the Main Arena, so if you haven’t got one, you’ll be able to pick one up on site.

💧 PLEASE REMEMBER THERE IS NO RUNNING WATER ON SITE, SO BRING ENOUGH BOTTLED WATER FOR YOUR STAY.

🚗 CHECK YOUR ROUTE BEFORE YOU SET OFF!

If your journey takes you via the Dartford Crossing, remember the Dart Charge applies to most vehicles using the crossing between 6am and 10pm. If you use the crossing on the way there and again on the way home, you’ll need to account for each charge. (GOV.UK)

💷 You can pay in advance or by midnight the day after you cross.
