Walking in the Norfolk Countryside based around Mid Norfolk, forest, woodlands, beaches and trails, starting with two grades of walking in relation to distance and pace.

Our 2023 Wherryman's Way Challenge in early Sept is getting closer.

Today we completed another 10 mile training walk around Rocklands all Saints.

Our longest walk on the challenge will be 15 miles so, our training walks are building up to that distance.

Well done all for your achievements today.

There is a surprise reward to be revealed in the coming days to acknowledge your achievements of finishing the Wherryman's Way in Sept.

Our second adventure of the weekend was a 8 mile jacket on, jacket off stride around East Wretham.

This was the second of our distance challenge training sessions.

Our distance challenge this year is the Wherryman's Way, the striders will be taking on the 37 mile route over 3 days early Sept.

Today's walk was training to build up fitness so we can all achieve the distance. Next up is a 10 mile training walk.

It's a busy weekend for the Wild Stride Walkers, firstly day 2 of the Wherryman's Way has been recce'd with Vickie Hunter-Lines.

This is going to be a beautiful days walk along the river, through fields, through towns. Lots of wildlife and nature to engage the striders as they take on the 37 mile challenge over 3 days.

The Wild Stride Walkers have introduced a new programme of navigational skills to the range of sessions offered.

Friday the group learnt about map scales, map symbols, particularly the different types of footpaths, contour lines and basic compass usage.

With time in the morning to do the learning and implementation in the afternoon during the social walk, everyone had a good day. If a little wet at the end of it.

It's been a busy weekend for the Wild Stride Walkers.

Recce number 2 of 3 of the Wherryman's Way Challenge, today checking out stage 1 of our distance challenge route, Gt Yarmouth to Reedham 11 miles.

Beautiful views, lots of wild life and a pub at the end, what more could you want.

We have five training walks coming up to get us fit for the challenge that takes place in Sept, with just a couple of places left, it could be you seeing these wonderful sites.

Early Sept sees a group of wild stride walkers taking on the Wherryman's Why over 3 days. Starting in Great Yarmouth and finishing in Norwich.

Yesterday Katy and myself carried out a recce of what will be day 3. Rockland St. Mary to Norwich around 10.5 miles.

There are 2 places left on this adventure if you would like to come and join us, training walks are planned and full support along the way is given. Contact directly if you would like more information.

How beautiful is this walk along the river? And on this hot day we Had to finish with an ice cream.

So the training has started for our annual distance challenge.

Last year we completed 46 miles that makes up the Peddars Way.

This year we are taking on the 37 miles of the Wherryman's Way.

So today's wild stride walk seen the team complete a 6 mile circuit of Castle Acre.

This is all part of building our physical and mental fitness to complete the 37 miles over 3 days.

We still have a couple of places available if you want to join us for training walks and/or the distance challenge.

Well done to all for your achievements today, all washed down with tea and cake.

On 1st July we start training for the annual distances challenge, this year it is the Wherryman's Way.

These training sessions are open to everyone and not just those taking part in the challenge walk.

If you would like to join us for a social walk of 10km/6 miles then please confirm your attendance and a place will be kept available for you. (If you are new to the group then some forms need to be completed in advance, contact for more information)

These social walks are £5.00 each.

Sat 22nd July: East Wretham: Start 9.30 AM (part of the distance challenge training plan, but all welcome)

So, what is the annual distance challenge?

This year the annual distance challenge takes place in Sept 2023 https://www.wildstridewalkers.co.uk/long-distance-strides and we have a few places left available for this challenge.

Part of our planning is to ensure you are fit and ready for the distance challenge so to engage in a range of training walks with us is key to your success.

Our first training walk is 1st July 2023.

The training walks are available to those taking part in the distance challenge and those you want a social walk on that particular day.

Booking is essential as group numbers are kept at a level to allow us to move at a pace that suits you and your needs and for everyone to communicate and engage with each other.
