Wigan Judo Club

Wigan Judo Club The path to Glory is not in never falling, but in the way we rise after every fall.

16/03/2020

Immediately pursuant to this evening’s Government briefing on COVID containment, we are regretfully postponing all Wigan Judo training sessions until further notice. Thus far we have, in the best spirit of Judo, endeavoured to persevere. However, given the latest evidence of unpredictable transmission and vulnerability, we recognise our social responsibility in adhering to the national strategy of avoiding non-essential travel and interpersonal contact. We will be reviewing the daily updates and resolve to be back on the mats as soon as is safely possible. We look forward to seeing you all safe and well then, and wish you good health in the hopefully -short meantime. With sincere best wishes,

Phil Sullivan &
Wigan Judo Club Committee.

Hello Everyone!

Firstly please can I say a huge thank you for supporting our event this coming Saturday 13th April 2019. This is the 4th year in a row we have staged an event and we hope with our new grade banded format & new venue, we can build upon our previous successes to provide an event that we can all be proud of.

This year we have introduced an under 8s festival which is being tagged on to the start of the day. Weigh in for this event will be 9.15-9.45am. Following the weigh in, our participants will be invited to play some fun judo games before we start with a fun basic introduction to competitive judo through small mini pools formulated using grade, age & weight. We have no official referees for these matches and expect club coaches to muck in and help referee to create an enjoyable, stress-free atmosphere for these new competitors. Once the contests have been completed we will play more fun games to ensure all the young players leave our festival with a smile on their face.

Event 2 will then start to weigh in at 10.45am, joining in with the games session to warm up before their contests commence at approximately 11.15am where our tournament referees will officiate from there on.

Event 3 will then weigh in at 11.45am, with their contests starting approximately 12.15pm

Finally Event 4 will weigh in at 12.45pm with their contests starting approximately 1.15pm with an estimated finish time of 2.30pm.

Please ensure you check that your license is in date and bring it along with you if possible. If you are one of the many families waiting for a license to come through from the BJA please bring a print out of your email confirmation or have it on your phone available to show evidence of membership at the registration table so we can ensure all our participants are insured to compete.

She was also a proud mum to Karl & Gary Edwards, aswell as an unbelievable judo ‘parent’ to every player that ever walked onto the mat at WJC.
