🏞️ Fix the Fells – Protecting the Lake District, One Step at a Time 🥾💚
Ever wondered what it takes to keep our beautiful mountain paths walkable and wild?
💪 Every year, the Fix the Fells team restores and maintains hundreds of kilometres of upland footpaths across the Lake District National Park – helping to prevent erosion, protect fragile habitats, and keep the fells open for future generations.
📏 Cost per metre?
👉 Around £70–£150 per metre depending on terrain and materials.
🧱 Some paths cost over £1,000 per metre in remote or steep areas!
🕒 Time?
👷♀️ It can take a full season (April to October) to repair just 100–200 metres of path, depending on access, weather, and complexity. Some projects take years.
💷 Annual cost?
Fix the Fells needs around £500,000–£1 million each year to continue this vital work. Most of this comes from donations, grants, and the hard work of volunteers.
🌿 By supporting Fix the Fells, you're helping preserve the magic of the Lake District – not just for today, but for decades to come.
📸 Next time you walk a stone-pitched path on Scafell Pike, Helvellyn or the Langdales, think of the hands that built it – one rock at a time.
