⚽️ END OF SEASON UPDATE 🚨

Now that the league season has concluded, we would like to congratulate Valspar 2012 on securing the North Ayrshire Soccer Association Billy Gilmour League title on the last day of the season. Deserved winners who have been very good over the course of the full season.

Massive credit to our Lawthorn Thistle Boys who forced themselves into the reckoning with an unbeaten run in the 2nd phase of the season which included 6 wins on the spin and secured 3rd place in the table.

Unfortunately, this marks the end of our Lawthorn Thistle journey as the team have now decided to fold. Huge thank you to all the parents and families who have supported us throughout the season and especially to the boys who have been incredible all year and a pleasure to work with.

Want to wish everyone the best of luck in the next steps of their football journeys and for the future.

This season has been a memorable one and we are very proud of what the boys have achieved together. Looking forward to giving the boys a good send off at our end of season awards night 💚🖤

⚽️ NEXT MATCH ⚽️

Tomorrow the boys will play their final North Ayrshire Soccer Association league match of the season as we welcome our friends from Ardeer Thistle 2012's over to Greenwood for a midweek league fixture.

Both teams have enjoyed a strong 2nd half of the season and this is sure to be another very close encounter as we finish off our league season.

Hope to get a good crowd to cheer on both teams and show both sets of players the support they deserve for a great season 👏

Lawthorn 4-7 Largs

Unfortunately it wasn't to be for the boys this morning as they went down 4-7 against Largs.

The boys faced a tough task as we had several key players missing through injury and holidays which left us with no outfield subs today.

Down to the bare bones but the boys fought to the very end of the game. After a really poor start which saw us 0-2 down within 10 minutes after being caught out with the pace and movement of the Largs front 2, we made a small tweak to the system and the boys responded brilliantly. 2 outstanding goals from Noah who absolutely terrorised the Largs left back today had got us back to 2-2.

A few tired legs just before the break as we failed to deal with and react to a couple of Largs attacks as we went into HT 2-4 down.

Largs then scored a peach of a goal from a free kick which was very soft award but fair play to the boy who picked out the top corner. Shortly afterwards they made it 2-6 after some good play down the left and Arron unfortunate to see his block divert into the net.

2-6 down, no outfield subs and boys out on their feet, but again, this team found something from within to drag themselves back into the game. Riley took over from Max in goals and we stuck the big man up top.

Tyler curled in another beauty of a free kick before Max got on the end of a through ball and forced his way through to make it 2 goals in 2 games for our keeper 😅

According to the refs report, the game finished 4-7 so I must have missed a goal somewhere.

I am honestly so, so proud of the boys, not just today but for the whole season. They looked done and dusted twice today yet found something from within themselves to fight back into the game. They played some excellent passing football today but the biggest thing that impressed me was the heart, desire and determination they demonstrated in spades. These are characteristics that will serve them well for the rest of their lives 💚

Well done to Preston who was awarded Refs MOTM. Wee man was excellent in midfield and range of passing was very good.

Coaches MOTM today is split between Noah & Max. Noah for 2 outrageously good goals and his pace absolutely terrorised their defence.

Max not only kept us in the game at times with at least 3 or 4 top drawer saves, but showed brilliant leadership throughout to motivate the boys to keep going and then contributes at the top end of the pitch with another goal.

So proud of you all boys.

On to Wednesday and our final League match of the season

🏆 SEMI-FINAL WEEKEND 🏆

This Sunday we head over to St Matthews to take on Largs Thistle in the semi-finals of the Henry Brown & Co Cup.

A massive weekend of North Ayrshire Soccer Association semi-finals with multiple other matches taking place over the weekend.

Come along and support the boys as they battle it out for a place in the final 🏆

Boys were absolutely incredible today. Couple of poor results last few weeks and we had a few honest words over the last week and talked about the opportunity thats there for them in the last few weeks of the season and not to let that fizzle out.

Their reaction today was absolutely first class as we secured our spot in the Henry Brown & Co Semi-Finals next weekend.

Through the whole team they were absolutely on it today and the attitude and determination were absolutely spot on.

A brilliant team performance.

Well done Bobby who was voted refs MOTM. Wee man was absolutely brilliant today and fully deserved.

Coaches MOTM goes to the full team. 9 and 10s out of 10 all over the park 👏👏

Best of luck to Martin and KFA 2012s for the rest of the season and beyond. Great attitude to keep fighting until the last whistle and plenty of good days to come for the team who have gotten stronger and stronger as the season has progressed.

This afternoon we welcome Ardeer Thistle Blacks to Greenwood as we face off in our final group stage match of the Henry Brown & Co Cup.

Lawthorn hoping to secure a place in the semi-final as we look to bounce back from a disappointing result last time out.

Glenburn 2-0 Lawthorn

Always a very closely fought game between the 2 teams this season and today proved to be no different as Glenburn edged out a very fiercely contested game.

Sore one today as we never played as well as we have done in recent games. Some good individual performances but we struggled to get the ball down and play on what was a very hard and bobbly pitch. Pretty even game overall with Glenburn probably edging it on chances created and Max making a few quality saves in the first half before Glenburn eventually scored with a peach of a strike after we failed to clear our lines from a ball in behind.

Lot of very physical challenges allowed by the ref today and a few boys took some heavy knocks in a game where we only had 1 outfield sub before we lost Olly early in the game after he got injured after a heavy fall to the ground from a shove in the back.

Boys all emptied the tank as we tried to force our way back into the game 2nd half but Glenburn dug in with lots of bodies in defence and held firm, limiting us to a few half-chances. With virtually the last kick of the ball, Glenburn scored their second on the counter-attack to take the win and secure their place in the semi-finals.

Congratulations on securing progression to the next stage and good luck to Glenburn MWFC Colts 2012 for the rest of the season.

Chance for Lawthorn to join them with another game still to play next weekend.

Well done to Riley who was awarded Refs MOTM. Battled well in the middle of the park and won lots of headers and lose balls when the game was very scrappy.

Coaches MOTM this week goes to Max. Another excellent performance from the big-man, with a fee top class saves and commanded his box very well

🏆 IT'S MATCHDAY 🏆

Game 2 in the Henry Brown & Co. Cup today for the boys as we head over to Prestwick for a game against Glenburn Miners Welfare Colts.

Both teams got off to a great start last weekend and both going into this game looking to secure a semi-final spot.

We have faced Glenburn twice in the league this season and also in a tournament last summer and they have all been very close games.

Looking forward to another good game this afternoon.
