Right. Let’s say the thing nobody says out loud. 🫣

💧Leaking when you jump, cough, sneeze or laugh is common after a baby. Really common.

Common is not the same as normal and it is definitely not something you have to accept forever. ❌

👩‍⚕️The most useful thing you can do is get assessed. Ask your GP for a pelvic health physio referral or find one privately. Not everyone’s leaking has the same cause and the right approach depends on what’s actually going on. Some people need to strengthen. Some need to learn to release. Guessing can make it worse.

In the meantime, things that generally help:
🔹Pelvic floor exercises. Squeeze and lift as though stopping yourself passing wind. Hold for a few seconds, then fully relax the relaxing matters as much as the squeezing. Build towards longer holds and add some quick ones too. A few times a day.
🔹Squeeze before you need it. Brace before you cough, sneeze or lift the car seat. It genuinely helps.
🔹Don’t test it by stopping your wee midflow. It’s not a good way to practise and can cause problems.
🔹Keep drinking normally. Cutting fluids seems logical but concentrated urine irritates the bladder and makes things worse.
🔹Sort out constipation. Straining puts real pressure on the pelvic floor.
🔹The Squeezy app is NHS-developed and does the reminding for you.

What we can do is make sure class isn’t the thing that puts you off:
🚫No jumping unless you want to
🔄Every exercise has a lower-impact option
👀Nobody’s watching what you’re doing

You are so far from being the only one. Half the room has been there. 💛

✨ Proud business owner moment ✨

Last November I got the opportunity to do a fully funded course to hold a Quality Standard Certificate.

I always want to make sure my business is at its best so we can support our amazing parents the best we can 💛

There was moments I doubted myself as I was heavily pregnant then navigating the newborn stage with a 2 year old in tow but I am proud to say StartStrong Fitness CIC is now certified and holds the Quality Standards recognition!

I rarely say I am proud of myself but today I am saying it… I am proud as this will give us huge opportunities as a company but also more opportunities to support more families!

Thankyou so much to Community Action Suffolk and the amazing Jacqui who supported me, guided me and made me believe in myself, my company and my vision!

This is your sign if you are reading this that you are stronger than you know and if you believe it you can do it 💪

💭 “Embrace the season you are in.”

I saw that quote and it stopped me, because I remember when my season was postnatal anxiety with both my girls.

I remember thinking it was permanent. That this was just who I was now. Nobody tells you that the season ends you can’t see out of it while you’re in it. 🌧️

But it did end. And I came out the other side and now I am in a total other season navigating 2 little girls and a business and I am now embracing this new season I am in ❤️

Here’s what I understand now that I didn’t then: that season wasn’t only in my head. It was in my body too.

💛 Shoulders and neck permanently tight
💚Aches with no obvious cause
❤️Catching every bug going
💙A tiredness sleep didn’t touch (plus wake nights with baby)

I thought I was falling apart physically and mentally at the same time. Actually they were the same thing. My body was carrying what my mind couldn’t put down. 💛

If any of that sounds familiar, I want you to hear this from someone who has been exactly where you are: you are not broken, and this is not permanent. 💛

Gentle movement helped me. Not because it fixed anything, but because it gave me somewhere to put it, and people around me who understood.🤍

👩‍⚕️ And please talk to your GP or health visitor. I wish I had, sooner.

Whatever season you’re in it will end. So try and embrace your current season as remember even winter has to come to an end and spring is where everything starts to blossom 🌸 you got this 💪

😣Nobody tells you that pelvic girdle pain can hang around after the birth.

I had it badly with both my girls. I remember just getting out of the car I thought my p***c none was going to rip apart and it took a good 6/8 weeks after having both girls for the pain to completely go!

You’re told it’s a pregnancy thing. That it goes when the baby comes. And for some people it does but not everyone and not always quickly.

🦴Your pelvis, ligaments and whole midsection have spent months adapting. How long recovery takes depends on your birth, your body and what happened along the way. Weeks for some. Longer for others. Neither means you’re doing it wrong.

👩‍⚕️Pain that’s still there months later is worth mentioning to your GP, or a pelvic health physio. Not because something’s wrong with you but because there IS help and you don’t have to just get on with it. I went to a pelvic health physio and she was a god send!

And when you come to class, tell us. Every exercise has options. We work around you, not the other way round. 💛

💬Anyone been told “it’ll settle” and it didn’t?

Sleep, mum brain and periods

😴 🧠 🩸 Three things stacking on top of each other and we treat each one like a personal failing.

Broken sleep. Not just being tired. It affects mood, appetite, patience, memory and how hard everything feels. The single biggest thing shaping your week bigger than where you are in your cycle.

Mum brain. It’s real. Pregnancy genuinely changes the brain and researchers think it’s specialisation rather than loss rewiring for a small human. Add broken sleep and of course you can’t remember why you came upstairs. 🤯

Your period. Which lands on top of both, unannounced on a day you were already running on empty.

No wonder you feel like you’re not coping. You’re doing something objectively hard. 💛

Stop trying to work out which one is to blame. Some weeks everything is heavy and the reason doesn’t matter. Move if it helps, rest if it doesn’t, eat something warm and be considerably kinder to yourself than you’re currently being.

✨ You’re not diminished. You’re depleted. They’re different things.

📌 Save this for the week you need it.

🩸 Nobody prepares you for the first one.

Here’s what I wish someone had told me:

📅 There’s no normal timeline. Not breastfeeding? Often around 6 to 8 weeks. Exclusively breastfeeding? Could be many months, sometimes over a year. Both normal.
⚠️ You can ovulate before your first period. So you can conceive before you’ve had one. Worth knowing.
🌀 The first few can be strange. Heavier, lighter, irregular and a different pain entirely. They usually settle.
🤱 Breastfeeding changes things. Some notice supply dips slightly around a period. It usually passes.

But here’s the bit nobody talks about. It’s not just the bleeding it’s the bleeding while you’re up three times a night, while someone needs feeding, while you’re carrying a toddler on one hip. There is no lying down with a hot water bottle. There is no calling in sick. 😮‍💨

You’re managing the same thing you managed before, except now you’re also keeping a small human alive on four hours’ sleep.

👩‍⚕️ If it’s extremely heavy, very painful, or hasn’t returned and you’re not breastfeeding that’s a GP conversation, not something to push through.

💬 When did yours come back and how was it? Mine used to be light but oh my gosh they were horrendous after Maya and then they came back within 6 weeks of having Millie!

Remember you are not alone parenting is hard and we are here for you 💪
