Progress isn’t always measured by the scales.

Sometimes it’s feeling more confident in the gym.

Sometimes it’s having more energy.

Sometimes it’s clothes fitting better.

Sometimes it’s simply sticking to promises you’ve been making to yourself for years.

A few messages from this week’s check-ins.

If I could go back and start the gym all over again, these are the 4 things I’d do differently.

Prioritise the basics

I spent far too much time chasing different exercises and not enough time getting stronger.

A stronger squat, bench and row would’ve taken me a lot further than constantly changing things up.

Learn how to actually control a weight

Looking back, I wasn’t really training the muscle.

I was just moving the weight from A to B.

I wish I’d spent more time slowing things down and actually learning how to train.

Sort my nutrition out

One protein shake after training isn’t gonna build muscle.

For years I trained hard but put very little thought into what I was eating outside the gym.

A few staple meals and a basic understanding of calories and protein would’ve made a massive difference.

Get a coach

Not because I couldn’t figure it out myself.

But because it would’ve saved me so much time.

A lot of the mistakes I made could’ve been avoided if I’d had someone to guide me in the right direction from the start.

Hopefully that saves someone a few years of making the same mistakes I did 👊🏽🦹🏽‍♂️

Today marks 6 months of the year gone.

Maybe the physique didn’t happen.

Maybe the 5k didn’t happen.

Maybe you never became the person who goes to the gym 3 times a week.

Most people will focus on the 6 months they’ve lost.

The people who make progress focus on what they can do with the next 6.

Because a lot can change in 6 months.

Strength.

Fitness.

Confidence.

Routine.

Better habits.

More consistency.

The year isn’t over.

You’ve still got half of it left.

The question is whether the next 6 months are going to look any different from the last 6.

Every year the sun comes out and people suddenly feel like they need to change everything overnight.

Then end up trying to rush months of progress in a few weeks.

Truth is, the people who usually look and feel their best in summer have normally been building those habits long before summer arrived.

The results that last usually come from having better structure and consistency around things year round.

A lot of people think progress is only physical.

The scales dropping.
Weights going up.

But sometimes the biggest changes are someone enjoying training again.

Building confidence.
Getting through a week without completely falling off track.

That’s the type of progress that actually lasts 🦹🏽‍♂️

What usually ruins progress is people convincing themselves they’ve completely messed everything up…

then waiting until Monday to start again.

The people who make the best progress usually aren’t the most perfect.

They just get better at getting back on track quicker.
