🏆🫶 WHAT A JOURNEY THIS HAS BEEN 🫶🏆
On 17th March, I had an idea… a dream 💭⚽
I was straight on the phone to Kieran:
“What do you think of this idea?”
He said, “It’s a brilliant idea, I’ll back you.” ❤️
And that’s where the name B&K came from — Brett & Kieran. 👊
Then, on 18th March, that idea/dream started turning into reality as we launched B&K Recovery Fun Football. 🙌⚽
Did I know exactly what I wanted?
Did I know where I wanted it to go?
NO! 🤷♂️😂
The original idea was simple… just a Friday evening kick-about for people in recovery. ⚽🫶
Then came Friday 10th April — our very first session.
8 people, including me and Kieran. ❤️
Fast forward to Saturday 5th September…
25 sessions later — including Friday sessions & friendlies — and look where we are! 😭🏆
🏆 B&K RECOVERY FUN FOOTBALL HAVE JUST WON OUR FIRST EVER TROPHY! 🏆
🥈 RUNNERS-UP AT THE FOUNDATION 2 CHANGE TOURNAMENT IN BIRMINGHAM! 🥈
Today we took 2 x 5-a-side teams down to Birmingham for a fantastic tournament organised by Foundation 2 Change. 🙌⚽
Our second team only went and finished TOP OF THEIR GROUP ON GOAL DIFFERENCE 😱🔥
Then into the semi-final…
B&K 2–1 WIN 💪⚽
Into the final…
And we narrowly missed out, losing 1–0 to We Do Recover.
🥈 RUNNERS-UP! 🥈
But honestly… what I witnessed today was unreal. ❤️
Both teams left absolutely everything out there. 💯
Our first team struggled in their group and unfortunately finished bottom, but they never gave up. 👊
And remember, both teams had NO SUBSTITUTES while some of the other teams had full squads. 😮💨
Some of the lads had already put in an incredible session on Tuesday night, aswell has a friday night session then travelled 1 hour 30 minutes to Birmingham this morning and still gave everything they had. 🚗⚽💪
❤️ THIS TROPHY ISN’T JUST FOR THE 5 WHO WON IT.
It’s not about me.
THIS TROPHY IS FOR THE WHOLE OF B&K RECOVERY FUN FOOTBALL. 🫶🏆
We’ve had some tough results go against us over the last few weeks, so seeing that trophy and seeing the smiles on the lads' faces today means more than people will realise. ❤️
And I’ll repeat this again…
Even the players who didn’t play today — THIS TROPHY IS YOURS TOO. 🫶❤️🏆
You are part of B&K.
Old players.
New players.
Everyone who has pulled on that shirt.
Everyone who has supported us.
Everyone who has turned up and helped keep this thing moving.
THIS IS YOUR TROPHY. ❤️
I’ll be deadly honest…
There have been times I’ve wanted to throw the towel in and call it a day. 😔
Anyone who runs something like this will understand exactly what I mean.
But we stuck at it. 👊
And I’ve had an unbelievable support network around me.
Kieran, Josh & Phil have all played massive roles in helping run the football side of B&K, and I genuinely couldn’t do it without them. ❤️👏
And to every single person who has played for B&K Recovery Fun Football — old and new — THANK YOU. 🫶
A lot of the lads tell me:
“You need to take more credit for what you’ve done and achieved.”
Truthfully, it’s something I still struggle with.
I’ll always believe that everything I do is down to God’s path, not mine. 🙏❤️
