Last weekend, members of the Muslimah Sports Association had the privilege of attending a private after-hours viewing at , one of Londonโs most beautiful and culturally rich spaces.
For many, museums, galleries and heritage venues can feel unfamiliar, inaccessible, or simply not designed with their communities in mind. Yet these spaces belong to all of us. Representation, visibility and a sense of belonging matter, and opportunities like this help break down barriers that may prevent people from engaging with arts, culture and history.
At Muslimah Sports Association, our work extends far beyond sport. While physical activity is at the heart of what we do, our mission is ultimately about empowering Muslim women to explore new experiences, build confidence, develop friendships and feel comfortable occupying spaces where they may not always see themselves reflected.
Visiting Leighton House together created an environment where women could experience the gallery in a way that felt welcoming and inclusive. Exploring the stunning architecture, intricate Islamic-inspired design and remarkable collection as a group encouraged curiosity, conversation and connection. For some, it was a chance to visit a cultural institution they may never have considered stepping into alone.
These shared experiences are important. They remind us that culture, heritage and learning should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background. By creating opportunities for women to explore together, we help build confidence that extends far beyond the gallery walls.
A huge thank you to the team at Leighton House for opening their doors and providing such a memorable experience. We look forward to creating many more opportunities that inspire our community to discover, learn and thrive.
